If you like over the top esper battles and that distinctive 80s SF design aesthetic, this is a must buy. I'm looking forward to seeing it in Japanese, finally, though I hope they include the original English dub, which falls firmly into the category of 'so terrible, it's awesome'. http://youtu.be/uYUZbiEA9eg

Eastern Star are doing a commendable job of licensing older anime shows and movies, especially since they're virtually the only distributor who are bothering at the moment.
Yeah, they're really kicking it up a notch with a lot of stellar releases. S'more Entertainment is releasing the entire Galaxy Express 999 series next month. Not sure on their releases, as their anime history is just Bobobobo-whatever. Hopefully it's solid and they keep it up afterwards, especially with all the other companies going under.

To the fans of older anime: is Inuyasha as a series as awful as I assume? Reason I am asking is that it's for sale super cheap and I love just about everything Takahashi has done otherwise. The early 2000 release and the droves of braindead fans have always kinda turned me hesitant and apprehensive.

Inuyasha is a series for teenage girls. Not the best from Takahashi.

I mean, I'm fine with that. I love Creamy Mami, Sailor Moon, Minky Momo, etc. It's okay to watch stuff like that when you workout and have a beard. Cancels out, and whatnot.

I think it becomes overly-long and story arcs seem to be repeated. Still, if I were to find it for cheep, I'd buy the whole series. Teenage girls who dig Inuyasha totally rock 8)

Yeah, might check out a season at least. Rightstuf is doing each one for 10 bucks a pop at the moment for a sale.

Why would you assume that? It's not shounen, make no mistake, and it is long, but neither is a bad thing. The cat is probably the best animated cat in a TV cartoon (my relative finds him animated better than cats in Fuujin Monogatari). I'm not a cat type person (more of a dog type), but I admit it's pretty good.

Eh, to be honest, I only assume it because I'm kinda a prick when it comes to popular/newer anime. Mainly because all the conventions I go to or comic shops or whatever I always see legions of Inuyasha cosplayers and merchandise and silly AMVs and such. Seems like it's the only Takahashi stuff the mass anime fan will touch, but I would assume that's just because it was on Toonami. I'm pretty judgmental, admittedly.

Anyway. I bought the whole series.

Yeah buddy, it may be one of the poorest website designs I've seen in some time. Seems like a free site you would have seen in the 90s. I found it earlier but can't find it now. Available for pre-order through Amazon, though. Looks like it's gonna be two sets, 50 bucks each. So less than a buck an episode!

Well, it IS long, so I can imagine having watched/read the lot some people might consider themselves fulfilled with the author's works. I finished watching neither InuYasha nor Urusei Yatsura, but those were the days of extensive manga & anime hogging under my roof. Both are indeed girly stuff in that they are essentially about men/boys. I assume Kagome and Lum are just there to help Rumiko Takahashi feel the groove.

Actually it has to be three boxes, because one box is holding 950 minutes of material.

Doesn't matter, one of the best animes ever created and it's been ages on my top list for anime to be released on DVD!

On topic, just picked up Ganba no Boken. Reminds me of Ginga Nagareboshi Gin. Maybe Yoshihiro Takahashi used it to influence GNG.

I know a lot of people on here find it kinda boring but I'm on episode 15 of Patlabor TV and I'm still loving it, I've seen the films and first OVAs before this - I just love it's art, directing, sarcastic/dry humour and well it's art a lot sometimes it looks a little sparse in matte/background type scenes, but then you realise that they are exactly what are needed to keep enough detail without looking to 'bitty'.

I just love it.

Patlabor is one of my favourite shows. I like that it is places its characters first and the robots second; it really is a cop show more than a robot show.

I got both of the Patlabor movies for $40 off there. They cost $90 each when they came out here  Seriously, Bandai Visual USA was like the proto-Aniplex USA.

Yep, Rightstuf has some pretty killer sales every once and awhile. I'd really recommend checking out their Bargain Bin, as well as the home page frequently for the current sales. Usually they can kinda be overpriced normally compared to Amazon and the like, but they've also got a lot of stuff that recently went out of print or hard to find elsewhere. Be prepared for their Christmas sale; last year it was fantastic. Xbl0x and I both came out with loads of stuff for cheap. Certainly looking forward to it this year.

watched the first Planites - I did really like, though the music track was way too loud for my liking and I didn't like the music itself too much either - I did really like it overall though - it reminded me of FLAG for some reason, maybe it shares some seiyu or something.

'I see an image of my two young sons standing in a field,
clenching their teeth and crying.
Their father became the Mazone's tool.
Their small hearts feel shame.
It's regrettable.

Captain Harlock, if you should meet my sons somewhere in this universe,
tell them their father died with a heart grown heavy from becoming a tool of
the Mazone.
Farewell, Captain Harlock!'

Probably my favourite scene yet in Captain Harlock - amazing cellos in the soundtrack too during this bit - so tragic...

I made off like a bandit for the past few years off The Right Stuf, Intl. just on Christmas sales alone. Still, I already blew a few thousand on cheap0 fashion watches, so I may not be fully in for an anime sale this year

Yeah, if I recall correctly they had a 12 days of Christmas, with each respective day adding more stuff onto the list. If I remember right it lasted until the end of December.
