Games that play like DDP Dai-Fukkatsu
Games that play like DDP Dai-Fukkatsu
Greetings good people of the shmups forums. I am a newcomer and I hope am I not cluttering these boards with my simple request. I wish to know if there are any games out there that play like DoDonPachi Dai-Fukkatsu (outside of the obvious predecessors of the game). I am planning on getting an Xbox360 next year maybe (still hoping Cave will decide to port some games over to PC through Steam, far fetched I know) but until then I am craving to play a game similar to this one. Tired of merely staring at gameplay videos with no way to get any satisfaction. Anything out there that could scratch my itch ? Thank you for your time.

what aspect of daifukkatsu are you looking for? graphical style? scoring system?

Amazing game, love it, but I already played the hell out of that, and while I still enjoy it, I was looking for something more like dfk.KAI wrote:Crimson Clover.
Well I was mostly interested in the game mechanics. While I do not know them in detail the hyper mechanic appeals to me, and the fact that you can delete bullets with the shot. Seems like it's better suited for beginners, which I am.moh wrote:what aspect of daifukkatsu are you looking for? graphical style? scoring system?
On somewhat of a side note, I noticed there is an android port of the game... How good is this ? Is it worth getting a tablet for in the meantime ? (thinking of something rather cheap, just to play the game, 1.2ghz processor, 1gb ram, android 4.0, is that suitable ?) While I raise money for the Xbox ? Thanks !
Edit: I forgot to mention that I am interested in whether or not the (android) port is true to the actual game. I don't need any fancy tablet features like ooh, look I can spin the shot around and fire a mega-beam. If that's extra, cool, I don't mind, but I would like to be able to play the regular game as well if that will be the case.
Re: Games that play like DDP Dai-Fukkatsu
Hmm... in that case, I'd recommend that you give Giga Wing a shot. In Giga Wing you can deflect the bullets which will also fire them back at the enemies. It's an excellent game as well!6xSnake6x wrote:Well I was mostly interested in the game mechanics. Looked it up on youtube. Looks great ! The deflection mechanic reminds me of Mars Matrix. Think I'm going to give it a shotpestro87 wrote:Hmm... in that case, I'd recommend that you give Giga Wing a shot. I got the android port for my HTC sensation. While it is a good port of DFK 1.5 (no black label), since its touch control, you can do some stuff in it you cant do in the arcade or 360 version, like zip across the screen to do some crazy shooting. other than that it is true to the game mechanics, but i think it lacks a few graphical elements (the one i noticed was the red lock-on signs over enemies thats in the 360 version from videos).
the spin-your-ship-to-fire-crazy-beam mode is the smartphone mode, different from the arcade mode. i dont know how the graphics will scale on a tablet, but its not in hd, probably same resolution as the arcade or lesser (i think ipad has the hd version). But to be honest, if you cant afford a 360 for now, you can get the android version, also install mame and dodonpachi, for extra fun.
Overall, I would rate the port at 7/10 keeping in mind its on mobile hardware and not on dedicated gaming hardware. Or get a Ipad, Icade(not sure if compatible), HD version and be happy.
I am also in a similar position, saving up for a 360, and got the android port as soon as it came out. will save to get a NTSC-J 360 by early next year.
Also there is a thread dedicated to the android ports somewhere on this forum if you would like to search and read more reviews. (keep in mind some phones and tablets have compatibility issues)

Hah, I didn't think discussing mame would be appropriate but in this case, yeah, I've played a lot of dodonpachi that way (just got giga wing as well and it's tons of fun). I mean, don't get me wrong, if I could buy it I totally would. I buy all the games I enjoy, I don't understand why they wouldn't port them and sell them digitally (on PC). Anyways I was thinking of getting an european 360 and ddp resurrection... I heard you can purchase the black label dlc, but not the ketsui arrangenasty_wolverine wrote:I got the android port for my HTC sensation. I don't know if you're in Europe or not, but an American 360 will run Dodonpachi Resurrection fine (the European release will not work on a Japanese 360), though you will need a European LIVE account to get the DLC. The Ketsui arrange was only available on the retail Black Label release in Japan, probably as an incentive for people to buy the separate retail release instead of just getting the Black Label DLC for 1.5.6xSnake6x wrote:Hah, I didn't think discussing mame would be appropriate but in this case, yeah, I've played a lot of dodonpachi that way (just got giga wing as well and it's tons of fun). But considering I am almost desperate to play this game, and the positive feedback, I guess I'll get a tablet, hopefully by christmas (the tablet itself supports full HD through HDMI output, will I be able to run the game in HD :-S ?). So with that out of the way, are there any other games I should know of in the meanwhile ? Could be pc games, emulated games, whatever. Until next time
As for the Smartphone/Tablet version, the HD version was a separate, more expensive version of the game (only on iOS?), so playing the normal one on a device capable of HD output will not let you use the HD graphics.

Okay, I would say to.wait for Japanese 360, coz there are lots of other good titles only on that, specially saidaioujou coming out next year. And about the tablet being hd, doesn't reallY matter coz the game will still run at low res. Which is good.enough by the way... Also espgaluda2 is also on android if u care Along with original rtype (haven't tried them though)6xSnake6x wrote:So with that out of the way, are there any other games I should know of in the meanwhile ? we can talk about mame and emulation here, just don't ask for roms. On mame get all the cave and raizing stuff, on pc u want crimzon clover and hellsinker. Special mention to ketsui and daioujou. also get parsec47, chorensha, blue wish resurrection... All Freeware now. With a little google foo u can also get newer cave sh3 stuff on mame.
there is a guide to owning a Japanese 360 somewhere here on the forum, check that for compatible games, check out the top 25 stg of the year Thread for good titles as well, check the hiscore section for current games being played, also check development section for some good member made games too.
u should try hellsinker no matter what, it will keep u busy till u can afford a 360, its for pc and u can order from sk8tokyo.com/shmups for some $30 or so... Just google hellsinker, watch the first YouTube video, it should be way of the flesh stage, listen, look and feel....

Yes I am from Europe, that is why it would be most convenient for me to get a 360 of this region. I would like to import but it seems to be risky and more costly. I also heard Japanese models break easier :-/ Not sure if that's true or not. In any case, it just seems like too much of a hassle. I guess I'll have to settle for what's regionally available to me. And thank god there are publishers that consider these games. Anyways, I expect it will still be long until I get a 360. Thank you for all the useful feedback.Meseki wrote:I don't know if you're in Europe or not, but an American 360 will run Dodonpachi Resurrection fine (the European release will not work on a Japanese 360), though you will need a European LIVE account to get the DLC. It's not really risky, and they don't break easier. I bought a Japanese one almost 2 years ago now, haven't looked back. Works great, and I can play all my locally released games too (almost all US releases are region-free, so they work on Japanese consoles).

<S.Yagawa> I like the challenge of "doing the impossible" with older hardware, and pushing it as far as it can go.

Hmm, that makes it really tempting. I mean I was mostly thinking of shmups, but I wouldn't mind trying out some Halo. Sounds like a great deal, I'll keep that in mind.trap15 wrote:It's not really risky, and they don't break easier. I bought a Japanese one almost 2 years ago now, haven't looked back. I also own a Japanese 360 and I second that!trap15 wrote:I bought a Japanese one almost 2 years ago now, haven't looked back
