1.) Is it OK to have the screen start off rather bright, with a few almost-horizontal (slightly curved) white lines near the bottom? It clears up in a few seconds.
2.) Is there an actual 240p mode for this set?
And a freebie, I suppose...
3.) Any suggestions on RGB and VGA to Component video adapters?
I haven't been able to enter Service Mode yet - the buttons on the remote (which looks new) don't register inputs all the time.

Re: A coupla WEGA KV-27FS120 questions
1.) Probably - is this with a specific device attached or is behaviour the same with other devices and/or without anything attached? ... Some of the later trinitrons [that came to europe] could be a bit touchy about signal levels on scart so maybe a pot on each line to try tuning it down a bit might help - otherwise could be completely unrelated... and yeah maybe service menu may help out if drive/contrast is a touch too high.
2.) Don't know of any set that forces 480i to 240p if that's what you were hoping for? But it should work with 240p sourced content, some samples popped up here which look fairly tasty: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.p ... c=120798.0
3) Depends on the route slightly perhaps - you wanting to scale down to 15khz 240p too, or starting off at 240p, or both

Re: A coupla WEGA KV-27FS120 questions
The white lines appeared without anything hooked up. I know of another place I can ask and get a better idea about that. Set seems pretty solid though. Brightness doesn't seem too high, but I could be surprised.
Yeah, I saw the arcadecontrols thread; any suggestions on a good source of 240p that I'm likely to have (consoles maybe)?

Fire away! Any differences I ought to know about would be helpful.gray117 wrote:3) Depends on the route slightly perhaps - you wanting to scale down to 15khz 240p too, or starting off at 240p, or both?
Re: A coupla WEGA KV-27FS120 questions
anything from pre-8-bit (Atari) to Playstation, Saturn and N64. There a are a few games running in 480i on those, but the majority is 240p.Yeah, I saw the arcadecontrols thread; any suggestions on a good source of 240p that I'm likely to have (consoles maybe)?
RGB Scart to component is easily available on eBay for about $45-50. They work fine.Fire away! Any differences I ought to know about would be helpful.
VGA to component is harder to find and there's only a single one (Extron Super Emotia GX) which goes directly from VGA to 240p COMPONENT. Other Emotias and the Ultracade UVC take VGA and output 240p RGB. If you can live with 480i output instead, then there's plenty of units to chose from. Just search for "scan converter" on ebay and see what's there with component outputs.
Re: A coupla WEGA KV-27FS120 questions
No great surprises here, thanks!
I noticed that the Junker HQ has a nice article with some homebrew 240p test patterns, and since I have both a Dreamcast and a Sega CD it should be no problem to test that out right away.
I did a little test in Vagrant Story of watching the outlines of buildings against the sky (while rotating the camera in view mode) - it seemed to have some "motion blur" from interlaced fields. Dunno if that's the fault of the TV, console, or even the game, or even just my evolving standards causing me to think I see a problem that's not there...the test patterns should help me sort that out.

Re: A coupla WEGA KV-27FS120 questions
Artemio's 240p test suite is great. Use the Sega CD version for best 240p results.
The FS120 is a very late CRT. My last CRT was from the late 90s, so possibly the FS120 does some digital processing. But you should use a proper 2D 240p title to do a testrun and not a 3D title like Vagrant Story.

Re: A coupla WEGA KV-27FS120 questions
Think fudoh's got you covered I was going to say vga to component is a bit of a mystery to me [being a spoilt euro boy it's typically vga to scart or visa versa].
In the case of phospher motion blur - that will happen to a very small degree on most crts, but may be exaggerated if the phosphers are being over exposed, or whatever the correct term is. There will probably be an adjustment screw/knob on the tube that in combination with service menu that will help you find a happy medium between the darkness/saturation of the image and the amount of blur occuring [sorry i can't be more precise - I'll look it up at some point] ... you may well find that service menu adjustments can help solve this alone.
One of the best tests against this is white shape moving over black bg - like credits etc - some small degree of softening/blur is inevitable on crts with a high contrast ratio.
From your description it doesn't sound really like a 'problem', but perhaps improvable?

Re: A coupla WEGA KV-27FS120 questions
I've seen several tubes that show a few (say 2-20) narrow, bright bands on power UP.
I think it means G2 (or SCREEN as Sony flybacks call it) is set too high. It can also mean the gun is shooting the "cone" of the tube as well as the screen. If the problem is either of these things, it's quite fixable without replacing parts.
