Static issue with Sony 34XBR960

Post by njiska »

Since getting back from vacation in August I 've been noticing a serious issue with noise in the video image being displayed by my 34XBR960. Does not matter what input or signal type is in use is in use, there a pervading layer of noise in the image. This covers both the actual input feed and the display's UI. The static is not constant however and does disappear form time to time. It's also not present after disconnecting the display's power source for a small period of time. Simply turning the display off and on will not affect the noise.

Looking for suggestions on where to begin troubleshooting this. The video sources are obviously not an issue, which leaves me thinking this is power related. Maybe dirty power coming in off the wall, or possibly failing capacitors in the display? Any advice would be appreciated.

or possibly failing capacitors in the display?
very likely this. Unfortunately it's very hard to find those capacitors unless they're really leaking (which is unlikely on a XBR960).

That's what I'm kind of afraid of. I'm probably going to take the back off and look through the system, just on the off chance. If i can find it replacing it is no problem.

That's a shit load of work, but maybe. The noise isn't super bad at the moment and I may just hold out until I can replace this with a better display. It's served me well, but the time is coming when my living room will need a plasma. (Only for HD content of course)

No, I get that you're kidding, but you may also be very well correct.

Did you ever figure out how to fix this? I'm having the same exact problem.
