So, someone should bring an EPROM burner, and two 27C040s for DoDonPachi Arrange, and four 27C040s for Battle Bakraid rank display (if we want to bother with that, even).
i'll ask jep i think he has a burner
or i'll tyranix95 i'm sure they could help us with that

Yeah arcade game! I would love to come over to your pad and check out your sick setup. I will bring over whatever PCBs you'd like me to/food/and help out with setup, etc. There definitely needs to be more shmupmeets!

Thread has been updated with tournament announcements and also buy/trade info.

I think I can come after all, as some other travel plans got pushed back to after Christmas. This gives me a good excuse to practice Batrider special course again. Frenetic, how do you want to run that tournament? Since the bosses change depending on the team you choose. I've cleared it with Strawman alone, but have been trying a 17-stage team clear lately (extremely hard). I'll practice a bit and see if I can't replicate my Advanced clear for everyone, too.

I also have some pcbs and a nice supergun I can bring if needed. Some nice things I haven't seen mentioned yet are Cyvern, Outzone, Macross II, Garegga w/zak roms, Vasara, Vimana...

For the Batrider tournament, I think it should be "highest score wins, all teams accepted". Unless Frenetic wants to make it more fair for those of us (me) who can't handle teams and just stick to a single character.
I think the same "issue" exists in Bakraid for the Cloud stage boss rush, so whatever is picked should apply to both.

Also for Bakraid, how are we going to set up the rank? In Bakraid, whatever the last chosen course determines the rank, but it always starts as the last chosen being Normal. So we can either have it so everyone plays at Boss Rush rank, which just requires a dummy Boss Rush run first. Or we can have dummy Normal runs in between the Boss Rush rounds, which will let everyone play at Normal rank. I think the latter is a better idea, as pretty much everyone plays the game from Normal rank.

OK just found out about this and rather excited. Is anyone underage or can I bring kegs of homebrew. Could also bring a whole mess of thai curry if food is needed. What is the total number of people attending this.

As the old, unskilled person in the group I will enjoy watching you guys get high scores.

Also, I'm coming from San Fernando Valley, which isn't that far, so I can't imagine anyone needs a carpool from there, but who knows?

OK, just clarify if you want me to bring a keg or not. I know there's homebrew already. If you don't want me to bring any, that's OK. I'd be happy to bring a whole mess of thai curry instead (or both.)

I have school/work internship hours scheduled on weekends, but I'll see if I can cancel or at least be able to leave early. I have to see what they have scheduled for me, though.

Thanks for the invite 8)

If you took the time to complete our phone conversation, I would have mentioned 2 deathsmile PCB's were coming soon. Then 5 more came after that!

How does the starting rank in Bakraid work? Are we going to have to power down the pcb after every run to start at the same initial setting?

I have a burner but it's hooked up to my desktop. I haven't been able to get the software to work with my laptop. I can burn the eproms ahead of time if someone has some blanks.

When you power on Bakraid, it sets the "last played difficulty/mode" to Normal. When you start a new game, the rank is not determined by the difficulty/mode you select, but the previous one. To put it more graphically:

Code: Select all

Power on and coin up -> Choose Boss Rush -> (Normal rank) -> game over and coin up -> Choose Normal -> (Boss Rush rank) -> game over and coin up -> Choose Boss Rush -> (Normal rank)
Power on and coin up -> Choose Boss Rush -> (Normal rank) -> game over and coin up -> Choose Boss Rush -> (Boss Rush rank) -> game over and coin up -> Choose Boss Rush -> (Boss Rush rank)

So the starting rank is not tied to demo cycles at all like Garegga and Batrider?
