I've been trying to piece together why I love Dark Souls so much...unlike everyone else it isn't the freakin' pvp. Sometimes it is the tension/anxiety/etc. and sometimes its the huge rush when survive all that tension, but I think there's something more. Dark Souls does something more for me as a game because of the game world. No, not just the atmosphere or design, but the way that everything connects together in a genuine, 3 dimensional manner. Lovers of ICO will have shared these same feelings.

There's a few times I'm not sure if all the geography actually works, but to prove just how well crafted the world is, here's the Dark Souls 3D map viewer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyTB5vhKGSI&noredirect=1

Dark Souls Map Viewer looks good indeed. I wish developpers add an in game option where you can just simply fly anywhere in the world just to visit.

He's right about one thing: the game not having proper mouse and keyboard controls is a huge mistake. The game would have greatly benefited from a Risen-like control setup.

A 60 FPS patch has been released for PC:
The fix was met with a lot of cheer and question marks from PC gamers. Cheers because the game can finally run at the coveted 60 frames per second, which just makes everything so much nicer and smoother. Question marks because the developer FromSoftware, and publisher Namco Bandai, denied that the game could run at 60 frames per second and would be locked at 30 due to their inexperience with PC ports. Something looks awfully fishy when some no-name guy with the will and determination makes the 60fps tweak happen without an SDK, without devkits, without official support or design tools. Dare I say, it actually makes FromSoftware look lazy.
That being said, Durante and everybody else have as much time as they want to fix it. Honestly, it was working great (aside from Optimus users, lols) for most people once the original mod had been released, but the new features make it a sweeter deal.

Durante's DSfix is up to version 1.5. It also appears to have a 60 fps unlocker now.

Wish From Software would get to work on Dark Souls 2 already.

Agreed.

Hopefully by the time I'm done with the game one can hope they'll confirm a PC version.

This game is simply fantastic. I've already put 70 hours in it according to Steam, jeez, someone has like 200 hours already.

Just beat Bed of Chaos (it looked harder than it actually was, died only twice) and I headed to the DLC portion. Massacred that bloody Manticore. When enemies go down, boy, they go down.

There already is a Dark Souls Nexus for mods. Funny thing, I see myself pouring more hours into this (many many more hours) but I doubt I'll ever be able to finish the main quests of any of those Bethesda games... God, they feel so frigging boring in comparison.

Play Thief II: The Metal Age in a dark room with earphones and EAX on. I mean PLAY. Also, Anachronox (alas, the patch disabled 3D sound last time I checked).
I'd suggest more games where places seem "real" in a way, but some of those barely are any good.

The beauty of DS is you find yourself just wanting to play it again and again. I'm half way through a NG+ run and just had the inkling to try to go as far as I could with a pyromancer (level 1)...easily got to the boar before having problems (refused to pick up the drake sword as well.) Don't even know if I'll continue with this save since I didn't really plan on a build or anything, but had a great time blasting through the first few parts. I understand everything people like more about Demon's, but to me this is the best game since the likes of God Hand, Silent Hill 2, SMT: Nocturne and belongs in that pantheon of legendary games. I've probably sunk more time into it than any other game (300 hours+).

Who knows, maybe at this point I should just cave in and say it's my favorite game. It is certainly brilliant in the way it inspires repeated plays.

LOL, I remember seeing that game when it first came out. Will modern computers play it?

Agree with Thief II, it's immense. Four Kings are fucking me over on NG+, just tanked them first time but doing so little damage now (level 103 with a +10 fire zweihander) they're fucking me over big time.

My computer is old so I'm not familiar with the ways of contemporary PC gaming, but some unofficial patches may be out there and it worked jolly fine on WinXP. Most beloved PC games don't go away easily. Heck, there was a mod ("Thief III" of sorts), with story and all, fan-made a few years ago. Anachronox is also grossly enhanced in this day and age.

Well, yes, this. If you haven't tried at least 5 builds or done NG++++ or some shit like that, you probably still haven't played enough dark souls.

Stop trying to tank them. Lightest armor with highest magic defense you can find that will allow for a fast roll (under 25% weight) and Crest Shield. Co-op or summoning Beatrice will just make them stronger and probably isn't worth it if you're having issues. Stay close, be ready to dodge their attacks, swing when you can. Learn when the grab, homing shot, and big AoE blast are coming out. For the grab, just unlock and run away. For the homing shot, block-tank it (yay Crest Shield) or run like hell (but then you're screwing your timer and risking another King showing up because those shots take a LONG time to go away). For the big blast, either two or three rolls directly away from the King will get you clear, but raise your shield just in case. All of their other attacks are piss-easy to dodge and you shouldn't be getting hit by them. Zwei might be too slow for the fight, honestly. I did the fight on NG with no armor, Crest Shield, Lightning Balder Side Sword, and only SL10... with your gear and SL, NG+ really shouldn't be an issue.

Also, lrn2play, etc etc
<trap15> I only pick high quality games

Hit them hard. Don`t get hit. Victory.

If you`re really having trouble killing them, swap-cast Wrath of Gods or Crystal Magic Weapon to your Stone Greatsword and use its 2-handed R2 attack. You`ll be done with them in half a minute if not faster.

The glitch was removed in the PC version, but still works fine in the PS3 and 360 ones.

Anyone here willing to recommend some of the older From titles: Namely eyeing Shadow Tower (psx), King's Field Ancient City and Eternal Ring. The last one is the only one I can probably get cheaply. Really, really wish there was a US release of the second Shadow Tower which pretty much looks like Dark Souls 0.5. I understand there's an English patch, but that would mean messing about with playing it on my computer--something I haven't really been bothering with.

You could try emulating Shadow Tower Abyss with the translation patch - I need to do that sometime.

I played the original Shadow Tower's demo back when...ehh...I'll give it another shot I guess. Keep in mind that is NOT the original King's Field. (I'm not voting for king anybody who calls dungeons fields.)

I've played through King's Field and King's Field II (US versions, so actually KF2jp and KF3jp), very cool games. I did play Ancient City almost to the end I believe, but then I got distracted and didn't finish it.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

It`s really all very simple. All you need is PCSX2(which already comes with all the needed plugins) and the game`s ISO; the patch is quickly and easily applied to the ISO with a utility called PPF-o-Matic.

I made a topic about ST:A when the translation patch came out:

The link to the patch is dead though. RIP Megaupload.

I highly recommend King's Field 3 (2 in the US) and King's Field 4 (Ancient City). If 3's graphics don't bother you, you should start with that one. Otherwise start with 4. If you want more after playing through both of those, then move on to King's Field 2 (1 in the US).

Why do you have such a slow CPU in that beast... That'd be a pretty nice machine if, say, the clock was doubled.

Picked up Ancient City and Eternal Ring for about $7 each. I don't think I much care for the latter, but Ancient City has something going on. Extremely clunky and slow, but wonderful atmosphere.

The King's Field games are very atmospheric. It's more than enough to make up for the slow movement/pacing, in my opinion. Truly open world. The entire game taking place in one large area is one of the main reasons I prefer Dark Souls over Demon's Souls.

I didn't like 4 at first since it felt a bit too different from 2 and 3, but I really started to get into it after I cleared the poison mines. The biggest change that upset me was the introduction of weapon/armor wear, heh. I also wasn't too happy that they excluded the NPC dialog index that they introduced in 3.

King's Field II and III let you run pretty damn fast. It's only the fourth one that feels like trudging through molasses, but it's not really detrimental to the game anyway.

What? There's one of those in IV.
