Which PSP is the "good" one?
Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
I've seen some 3000's standalone for $84 at K-Mart lately, along with some 3000 PSP bundles with various games for $104.

Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
Got a PSP-2000 (5 years now)
1) controls are the best i have seen in any gamepad/device etc. (I use it with fusagamepad+mame for shmupping)
2) easy to hack (i use nes, snes, md, pce, neogeo, gba emulators on it, most of the time i am playing recca on it)
3) durable beast (survived 5 yrs of hacking, dropping, throwing, long play hours, screen gets easily scratched though)
The ps2slim and psp-2k were the best purchase of my life

Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
i got myself a PSP 3000 last week - i have exp with a psp 1000.
1) better controls then the psp 1000, certainly as nice as my xbox 360 pads
2) great screen
3) hackable - lots of software has a signed version so even if you reboot the device you can still run most software
negatives
1) i can seen the 'scanlines' everyone is talking about
2) not hard-hackable, every reboot you have to run a program first. Not a real issues since i always leave it in standby

The 3000 uses the same hacks as the GO and you can chose to install the hack the way you did or permanently. Both works.2) not hard-hackable, every reboot you have to run a program first. Not a real issues since i always leave it in standby
Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
Could you PM me the hack? As far as i understand i have an unhackable mainboard - all the versions i tried refused to do a hard-install.Fudoh wrote:The 3000 uses the same hacks as the GO and you can chose to install the hack the way you did or permanently. There's an option in the system settings somewhere that helps with the scanlines. Something about color expansion? I can't remember it now ... but it significantly reduced the effect.
Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
it's been quite some time that I did on my systems, but I'll check if I still have the files on my system.... no promises though.Could you PM me the hack? As far as i understand i have an unhackable mainboard - all the versions i tried refused to do a hard-install.
Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
You might be talking about the 6.2 update - there is a hard-mod for 6.2. However the newer 6.6 hacks do not offer this option on certain motherboards.

Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
Yeah mine had 6.60 on it, and from all the research I did, there is currently no "permanent" way to install a CFW.
With that said, I installed the CFW once, and I've had to do the Fast Recovery maybe twice since then (which takes exactly 10 seconds). I always just put the PSP to sleep and it's never been an issue.

Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
If you're on 6.60 you can just downgrade to 6.20. You won't lose anything important.
I really wouldn't bother though, the PSP has a so efficient sleep mode there's usually not any reason to ever turn it off.

Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
I read about this before (here on the board). My PSP-1000 and 2000 always run completely dead within a week or so, even if I switch them off completely.I really wouldn't bother though, the PSP has a so efficient sleep mode there's usually not any reason to ever turn it off.
Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
And after getting a PSP 3000 the softmod CFW isn't an issue at all. I'm surprised on how easy it is to hack it to be honest. Putting most PS1 games on the PSP, the emulators, and backing up your UMDs are just straight forward easy.shmuppyLove wrote:Yeah mine had 6.60 on it, and from all the research I did, there is currently no "permanent" way to install a CFW.

If you do gaming on the go this is a no brainier.

Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
Yep they're not too sharp it has to be said. I get hand cramp after playing a while but my normal usage is about 30 minutes max. I've not played the older models so do not know how they compare. There's not problem playing driving games etc but shooter and platforms take it out on the thumbs.
Currently into Ghost Pilots and Pulstar and both work really well.
Edit - forgot to quote! This is a response to a comment about the PSP GO controls.

It's probably me that wrote it before tooFudoh wrote:I read about this before (here on the board). Pretty sure mine lasts for at least two weeks (probably three), but it's a 3000.
Well it used to last that long, now I got the extended battery so I can use increased backlight brightness + overclocking (why are there people that don't hack their PSPs?). So I don't know how long it lasts now.
Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
I had the same question as the OP. I went with the PSPGo. I bought a charging cradle, and HDMI output cable for it. Now I sync'ed up a dualshock 3 to the PSP and I play games on my LCD.

Hmm that sounds cool -- I've got a component video cable on the way for my 3000 so I can play on my TV. How do you use a Dual Shock 3 with the PSP?zendor118 wrote:I had the same question as the OP. Edit: nm found the info, didn't realize the Go has bluetooth. I guess you can use remotejoylite on a PC to do it, but seems like that would be laggy?

The PSP 2000 is a better version of the 1000, and those are the only two models that can have permanent CFW installed on it.
Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
I have a PS3 to sync up with it and I only use it for RPG's so lag is not really a problem with it. =)shmuppyLove wrote:Hmm that sounds cool -- I've got a component video cable on the way for my 3000 so I can play on my TV. Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
Really? That's a great price! GameStop still has the 3000, without any games, for over $150.00.brentsg wrote:I've seen some 3000's standalone for $84 at K-Mart lately, along with some 3000 PSP bundles with various games for $104.
How much memory does the PSP Go have?? I've been thinking about getting this model, and I'm not a collector, so downloading PSP games would not be an issue for me. Then again, I don't know how much the cost is per PSP game-I would not want to break the bank buying PSN cards.

1: RemoteJoyLite + 360 controller on a PSP 3000
2: DualShock 3 via bluetooth on a PSP Go
Felt about equally laggy to me (based on very subjective testing of course). Controller latency isn't nearly as bad as the image transfer latency of RemoteJoyLite.
The PSP 3000 and Go can install a permanent CFW too. It's a more hacky solution, but it is permanent. The PSP 2000 is a better version of the 1000, and those are the only two models that can have permanent CFW installed on it.
Edit: oh, btw, today the Vita became a proper PSP replacement: hackers found a way to run any PSP game on it. Bad news is, if you're just reading about it now, you've missed your chance of that.
Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
Yeah here's the skinny.
ANY psp that has 6.20 or earlier from factory can have 6.20 perm CFW.
any 1000 and most 2000s can have permanent 6.60 CFW
ANY psp can have 6.60 pro cfw with fastrecovery. No matter what.
I have a fully hackable 2000, and am very happy with it. Rip your originals to MS with UMD drive and iso_tool to save battery.
ANd a lot of homebrew is signed now because the signing keys were stolen from a ps3.
The reason firmware is so easy to install now is because a) a kernel exploit exists in 6.60, and b) the installers are signed.

Re: Which PSP is the "good" one?
I'd like to thank people for recommendations here - today I decided to check out Sears and found they still had one PSP 3000 in stock. It was marked "used" due to whatever exceptionally minor shelf wear it had (legal obligations I suppose), and marked down rather heavily as well. It came out to somewhat under $75 after tax. I have exactly one game for it, though I will be adding the Makaimura imports and probably some Wizardry or something. Humorously enough, the rep said that New SMB (for DS) was probably still around $35. A shame because the copies behind glass there are in really nice shape, and I wanted to take one home.
