What [not shmup] game are you playing now?

*brofist* Yes it is awesome! I'm just wishing that i'll 1cc this one someday, because I can get so far on 1 coin, Destro and Cobra Commander wreck me hard though. I can no-miss until those points only to get busted like a hooker in a red light district.

A year ago or so you couldn't get past Metal Head (for a revision or two of MAME), because there was a crash or hang (or something) immediately after the fight, lolz.

Finished renegade playthrough of Mass Effect 2 so picked up 3. Not sure why it came with a disc because Origin wouldn't let me do anything other than download it - glad I waited because I'd have been screwed in my old place with its 1.5 meg connection trying to download 10 GB of game.

Pretty awesome so far although once again they manage to make what should be a race against time feel like there's actually no pressure at all.

I'm playing Samurai Spirits: Amakusa Koorin (IV) with my friends every afternoon. The PS2 edition is flawless.

my current juggling act:

mobile:
Super Hexagon - most enjoyable and original (and brutally difficult) iOS game i've played in a long time. doing well in this game will make you feel like a god made flesh

Playstation:
Valkyrie Profile - how have a not played this game before? PS1 RPG era at its prime

DS:
Pokemon Conquest - gotta catch em all, and then force them to wage war across feudal not-japan under your bloody standard

Forgot about this thread.

I've been all 3DS XL the last month or so.

Kid Icarus Uprising - finished
Mario Kart 7 - rinsed
Mario 3D Land - 200%

Ocarina of Time - not rushing, savouring the magic all over again. On the Shadow Temple boss atm, so not too far to go. If this game retailed for £500, it would be worth the price tag.

I've never played Ocarina through since I got it on N64, it was such an experience I really didn't want to tarnish it. I've not played a Zelda full stop since Wind Waker, which I thought was the most unfairly lambasted game of last gen. You're making me want to spring for the 3DS now. Guess I could trade the Vita.

Spiderman vs Kingpin beaten, great game. Won't touch Maximum Carnage again.

Played some Zen Pinball 2 these days. Got #5 on the V12 leaderboard, I almost managed to fully upgrade both the crankshaft and manifold but choked it. I believe I can crack #2 on this table.

I never saw Wind Waker get lambasted, at least not in the press, but that game does have problems despite its good elements. It marks a decline in the Zelda series for me (although don't get me wrong, a decline in the Zelda series is like incredible to pretty great.)

However, I, like you, wondered how Ocarina would hold up after all these years. All I can say is it's worth buying a 3DS XL for. Reliving it in 3D with improved graphics/framerate is purely superficial compared to how incredible a piece of work it is. It not only holds up, its leagues ahead of just about anything that slopped its way onto shelves in the last ten years.

It is a masterpiece. Still.

I'm playing it (that is, every now and then I try to finish it). The part when you have to collect Triforce shards is precious little short of agonizing. It is slow for the wrong reasons (unlike Ōkami that, for my money, kept getting better and better to the very end).
I've yet to finish Oracle of Ages too, but NOW we're talking. Not a flawless game, but the pacing makes quite a difference. Capcom seemed better than Nintendo itself at making Zelda games during the last decade.
To be fair, one dungeon in Wind Waker was a blast to play through - Earth Temple (the Medli one).
Come to think of it, Xenoblade Chronicles was slow-paced for different reasons than Wind Waker, but also the wrong kind. No, it's not really the 2D vs 3D thing as 2D Ys games tend to be faster paced than 2D Zelda games, also, Blood Will Tell had endgame requirements akin to those of Wind Waker, but the free roaming in Blood Will Tell was simply more fun.
Maybe Nintendo game desigers got just a bit too cocksure for their own good. I guess making games for a living doesn't leave one enough time to play games made by other devs and take some cues.

Hmm, interesting. Ages and Seasons are good, but not up to LTTP and Link's Awakening standards, and obviously no way near the N64 duo. But you're right about Zelda slacking off, it is a series that unfortunately lost its way without Miyamoto in a senior position. To that end I'd probably agree the Capcom games are on equal footing with some, and better than others (the DS games, particularly) in the last ten years. Minish Cap was ok too, despite really feeling like a black sheep of the series.

Wind Waker has a number of issues, but most of all the sailing is poorly conceived and its elements don't work in harmony.

Twilight Princess is good, but far too long and feels like a 'best of' compilation.

Phantom Hourglass solves the brokenness of sailing and sea combat in WW, but royally screws itself with that awful recurring dungeon. Worst single idea in a Zelda ever.

Spirit Tracks I haven't played, and Skyward Sword I can't comment on either; but I hear the latter is meant to be pretty good.

Folks tend to harsh on Spirit Tracks, but I really enjoyed it. Traipsing around Hyrule in a tootable train triggered some latent childhood wonder in me. Aside from that, it was basically a fan-directed cut of Phantom Hourglass; got rid of all the annoying elements and added some good stuff. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you felt shafted by PH.

hm, that was OK, but not life-changing.

Found a bug already - if you jump down through an open elevator door (before the resonance cascade, even!) before the lift reaches the lower level, you can't make the level transition, and you're stuck. Silly.

Angry Birds is rather fun on Chrome with a mouse. Even if your mouse's left button microswitch accidentally sends two clicks in sometimes...

Found Monster Dash yesterday, too. I want to check out that game that Skykid's friend or somebody was making - it would be great if there was a browser version of that to check out.

Ridge Racer: R4 [PS1], got a copy in the mail, and the music effing skips in it. Luckily, I'm only out $4, getting a properly resurfaced copy soon.
Ridge Racer Turbo [PS1], hnnnnnng. 60fps sexy. Drifting seems loads easier than in Revolution, what the hell. Of course, I still suck, the opponent car [just the one, and considering the one moment of slowdown I've seen be around where you see some traffic on the highway, I'm pretty sure that's just to keep the action at 60fps always] keeps beating me. I'll get better though. I should get a NeGcon though, but I don't have much money this week, need to wait until Friday to even consider getting one. If it works properly with those little blue USB PS1/2->PC converters, I will be so damn glad.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves [Neo Geo]. Had a couple rounds with some friends. Yay for supers not coming out when you need them most, ehehe. Also, Dong is really juggle friendly, especially with his aerial super near a wall, one of my friends can hit me with a DP twice off of that, although only on a proper Neo stick [instead of the PS1 controllers we used]. I can do it only once [I only use PS1 controllers for fighting, hehe], so I just use the heavy DP that knocks down and does more damage. And some of my friends can launch with his qcf,k pretty well and get a few hits in while I'm in the air. Shame I can't do it at all, need practice.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Armored Core: For Answer (360)

Should've got this way earlier, great game. Love the presentation and level designs (differences between difficulties are well made for example) story is actually pretty cool. V is probably better in ac variety, but this is certainly the more fun game for single player or dueling.

I don't mean to do an AC hijack of the thread, but I'm still working on the original AC for PSX - classy game. How close to the spirit of that is From Answer? Or, of course, does it not matter because it's an awesome but different type of game? (Honestly though, it's possible to see some AC style influcences even in Dark Souls, I think.)

Blade Dash. It's free. It's better than angry birds.

Blade Dash. There isn't a browser version unfortunately, but then it's so optimised to the last pixel to work on a touchscreen (it somehow blesses such a broken gaming interface) that it probably wouldn't work as well without. What are you playing on, games through the macbook App Store?

Still enjoying Tales of Graces f, I hope it carries on for a good while yet. Looking forward to getting stuck into the postgame stuff too. I have found a few bosses pretty challenging too. One took me about 5 attempts last night and I used almost all of my life bottles in the process.

Also dabbling in EDF 2017 again and I now have about 10 levels left of Hardest, 160 weapons collected, most of Inferno left to do. I am getting to the point where I might have to load in a second character to drop a few turrets to help out. Even with great weapons the later levels can be completely overwhelming. I also need to get some armour farming routines down. I think I need at least another 2500.

4/answer are pretty different from the older games while V tries to go back a bit and make it slower etc but putting the biggest emphasis on multiplayer and teamwork(rock/paper/scissors defence system, tons of gadgets and different types of weapons) the single player in V is trash though.. and the graphics look worse than 4A. I should get back to AC Nexus on PS2, I never liked it when I got it but I'm sure I'd be able to appreciate it now if I make a fun to use AC. Game comes with remade levels from 1 and 2 too if I remember right so would be a lot of stuff to do at least :p

While I'm waiting for Ys Celceta no Jukai to arrive, I'm sinking some time into Gravity Rush. Currently on Episode 5. Really digging this game.

Also some Kid Icarus Uprising on the 3DS here and there.

I wonder if I could still get ahold of the Euro Force pack and install it sometime? Would be cool to check out the maps, but I'm sure the lag feel and low detail would be a bit odd these days (not to mention the lack of 1920x1200 support).

Actually Euro Force and Armored Fury is part of patch 1.5, which is about 2GBs. Also BF2 can be set to 1920x1200 if you do the following to the BF2 shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
The biggest pet peeve with this game is constant crashing on my W7 machine. Must be the patch itself so I might revert back to 1.41 then 1.5 for stability issues.
