Where you at with what?

Post by MovingTarget »

So this has been done before, but I always liked this type of thread...

What shmup are you playing the most right now, and where you at with it? What area of the game are you practicing? .... and why?! :D

I'm currently addicted to espgaluda, started off playing for survival(up to 5-1 boss) but decided I should practice my points. Back to basics stylee, been practicing the first and second stage a lot recently, the gradual improvment in points is very satisfying indeed. I lose track of time easily this way. Them fat ingots look so tasty hehehe

Dodonpachi can get to about 3/4 through the 5th level max chain at 200 something (need to work on chaining)

Working slowly on Shiki II. Right now I'm trying to get to 4-2 on 1 credit with Kim2, and am trying to improve my score along the way. If I had more time, then it would be no problem. But it seems that everytime I get the levels mastered, I have to take a week off because of work. And then I have to go back to practicing again.

I'd also like to get to 1-6 in Strikers 1945 I, but ATM I'm a bit bored with the game. So far I'm stuck at 1-5 with a rather lame score.

Just discovered Psyvariar Revision and am enjoying that a lot.

Oh, and I'm trying to become less pathetic at some of my favorites: Giga Wing, Mars Matrix, and Gradius V. Holy shit these games kick ass and kick my ass!

Consistently getting to stage 5 on Dodonpachi with one life, then getting completley destroyed.

I just got the Gradius III and IV pack in the mail earlier today and haven't even really started. I played to stage 3 of Gradius IV but decided to wait until i was truly prepared to enjoy the Gradius magic. :) I've never played through IV before!

No shmups right now, but I plan on making a masterful run of Robocop the Arcade game.

For some odd reason I've had the hankering for the Giga Wing games lately...so far on defaults I can get to stage 5 on GW1 and Generations, and stage 4 on GW2...score's even more awful than the progress by itself though, heh.

A little bit of this, and a little bit of that. DHL should come by tomorrow morning with my DC from Lik-Sang, which means I'll finally be able to play my copy of Border Down LE! I've been longing for a new game to really focus on, and I have a feeling I'll love this one to death.

Asteroids - PS1

I'm on the Black Hole Stage 14...Large chunks of ice regenerate if you don't destroy them quickly...in the mean time you have the small hard to hit ship flying around shooting at you while all the time trying to avoid drifting into the black hole and being destroyed! Its sensory overload! But I'm gonna do it! After stage 15 I move on to the Sun nova stage.

Eh, haven't been playing any video games for the past two days due to illness but I was playing the hell out of Gigawing (both the DC and MAME versions) for awhile...also been giving Trizeal a second shot.

I hate switching from game to game, never feels like am really gettin anywhere. The rewards come when I stick to one game for more hours than I care to think about.

Not really playing a lot of games lately. Right now, I've got Strikers 1945 hooked up in my cabinet, but I'm still around level 3-4 on most runs. I've been switching between that and Raiden DX (the two PCBs I have right now) but have a Donpachi PCB in the mail, and expect to get a fair bit of use out of that. At the same time, I'm also giving some consideration to buying a Fish Tales pinball machine someone in the local area is selling. For a couple of years about 3-4 years ago I was a serious pinball junkie, but haven't really kept up, mostly owing to the lousy condition of most local pinball tables. I've always wanted to get one, but I do have to consider the cost (pinball makes collecting Cave shmups look cheap if you get enough into it.) Might as well enjoy the whole bachelor pad bit while I can.

Ikaruga -- working on 1CC'ing the game on Easy mode. I can get to the beginning of stage 5...

Contra: Shattered Soldier -- Beating any of the levels other than the default first one. x__x GAWWWWD DAAAAMMMN, that game is hard...

Zarlor Mercenary -- Just trying to beat the game. I can get to stage 4, at which point I get brutally raped...

Panzer Dragoon Orta -- Trying to beat the final boss on easy mode.So far, I can get to his third form. He needs to die. The programmer of that boss fight needs to die.

Psyvariar 2 Ultimate Final -- trying to NoMiss the final boss.

Battle Unit Zeoth and Solar Striker -- still trying to beat those goddamn games. I can get to levels 5 and 4, respectively, but DAMN those were some hard games... great games though, I love 'em. :)

Mushihime-sama -- I know it seems futile, but i intend to someday 1CC Arrange mode. I got to the true final boss before and took a chunk out of him. Fuck Aki.

Still banging away at Shiki 2, but have become addicted to playing for score. This is leading to a lot of risky situations that I'm only half confident about escaping from. Add in my complete inability to bomb on time and you're looking at frustrating progress.

i'm also playing strikers 1945 and i can get to the 1-6 boss pretty consistently now, but just got to push myself a bit to start venturing into the next stages. i used to find this game almost impossible but from playing almost all of the other psikyo games for a long period of time, i seem to have improved greatly on this one. also s1945 seems to lack the number one cause of my death in a shmup, fast ass bullets. gunbird2 and s19452 be damned for your fast spams.....

if i don't improve in stage progression i want to try and consistently reach the extend. i think my max score is about 540000, so not too much further to go.

I bought shiki 2 the other week after people kept recommending it in a thread a month or so ago and I've been loving it

But all this talk of batrider in the strategy forums has kind of drawn my attention away from it :x
