Gah, I knew I should have rounded at my classic Gundam collection before it was too late. :(

They'll resurface one way or another. If they don't, then more reason to download and burn. Just don't pay exorbitant "collector's" prices 8)

Yeah, I've pretty much got what I want, anyway. Still, things going OOP just ruins my day. I'm done overpaying for collector overpriced DVDs. Last one I bought (and hopefully the last for good) was Marmalade Boy part 3, and that was only because I already had the other ones.

I paid $40 for the long OOP Honneamise Blu-ray and don't regret it one bit.

Lol you got off light. I paid $99 for the Japanese version, though I probably have more money than brains.
In fact you wouldn’t believe the crap-load I’ve spent so far on anime Blu-Rays, usually Japanese copies too.
Stuff like SDF Macross, Patlabor (tv series, ovas & movies) Bubblegum Crisis, Gunbuster, Berserk, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ghost in the Shell (series + movies), Lupin III, Rurouni Kenshin, Ghibli Collections, etc..etc.. they all burn a hole in my wallet faster than any drug habit could :)

I'm still sore from getting laughed at for collecting anime, so now I'm starting to collect cheap0 designer/label wrist-watches (not to be confused with luxury watches that I'll never be able to afford on my pittance of a salary). I think once I stop seeing these chicks, I'll be back to collecting videos 8)

I don't think any of those have English subtitles, barring exceptions like Gundam Unicorn where the same releases are sold in both Japan and the US. Can you understand them without?

I'm pretty sure you are talking about Ops, Ends and insert songs.
The BGM direction in the industry hasn't changed a bit in the last 20/25 years.
Mostly, yes, but not exclusively. Plenty of montage tracks are just tacked on a turd-like.

Now that Japan is beefing up their copyright laws maybe they'll stop gouging the fuck out of people who want to buy entertainment products. Was shocked to see them STILL charge crazy fucking prices for 45 minutes of video.

yeah they're the Trust and Betrayal & Reflection OVAs, also The Movie, all are region free. Shin Kyoto Hen OVA is on Blu-Ray as well (in two parts), but does not include English subs.

other good Blu-Rays with English subs and are region free:

Ghost in the Shell
GitS Innocence
Wings of Honneamise
Jin-Roh
Blood the Last Vampire
Akira
Redline
Patlabor 1-3
both Mardock Scramble movies
all of the Ghibli Collection

most of these were released everywhere but some are OOP and hard to find iirc.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... n_US#gid=2 Here's a list of JP releases with subtitles, no region info though.

All Ghibli releases and Honneamise (Bandai Visual's label for catalog releases and such, not just Honneamise the movie, although Honneamise was released under the Honneamise label...) releases are region free. Most JP anime BDs are region free, but not all. I recommend looking on mania/thefandompost or asking them there as well.

Layzner is pretty cool, but yeah, it's not completely fansubbed yet. Probably going to be a few more years until that happens.

Don't forget about Kenji Kawai, every Oshii film has his music.

Ryuichi Sakamoto's Aile de Honnêamise ROYAL SPACE FORCE Original Soundtrack is really good.
