n00b question about monitors

Post by AssanCHOP »

Just bought an Atomiswave SD cabinet with a 29" monitor. Was told by seller that the monitor is 'too good' for the older games I'm after. He said I need an older tri-sync monitor for those games... or something like that. The current monitor was used for a Taito Type-X2 SSF4 setup at an arcade.

Can anyone give me some advice? If the monitor is running at too high a hertz rate, is there a way to avoid replacing the monitor, like a video downscaler, or is replacement actually the easier route.

A warning: I am in no way tech-savvy. No idea on make and model of current monitor.

Open the coin door, if it has the monitor remote board pictured on p38 here then it's the original wei-ya tri-sync monitor and supports 15KHz (most JAMMA stuff). He might have just meant that low res games don't look too hot on these monitors.
