God dammit...if Platinum only do exclusive shit for the Wii-U...ARGHHH!!!!
I do not want one of these systems. I really don't...but...
It's like when Resident Evil was announced exclusive for GC. That didn't stick, but still.

Are people actually looking forward to that? I think the current slot loading drive is much better. It's more comfortable to use, very little dust can get in and there is less risk of scratching discs.Op Intensify wrote:Yeah, Sony has a top-loading PS3 model on the way, which will likely coincide with a price drop.
Re: Wii U is 3 Wiis taped together ( WiiU )
With slot loading drives there is always the potential for hairline scratches on your discs. If given the choice, I would choose a top loading model over a console over one with a slot based drive any day of the week.

If I hadn't already bought a new PS3 less than half a year ago, I'd be looking forward to it because top loading drives are much less prone to failure. And yeah, there's less potential for scratches if you handle your discs right. Still not happy about my Wii chewing up Shiki 3.Are people actually looking forward to that? Re: Wii U is 3 Wiis taped together ( WiiU )
Bayonetta 2 exclusive makes me sad. I was hoping they'd make the second one on current gen machines since they so f'ed up the original on the PS3. I'd have bought it day one. I'm not really sure about the Wii U at this moment, but if Platinum keeps pumping out quality exclusives, I might think about it.
Now, where's my Vanquish 2
. Multiplatform plssssssssss. Let's hope Metal Gear Rising comes out great and I'll have something hack and slashy fun to play in the next 6 months.
Or maybe I'll just stick to playing my old games. Tons of great PS2 games still to be played.

WiiU is a current gen machine ufufufu.
Vanquish 2 is never gonna happen as it sold way worse than Bayonetta. But watch for Mikami's horror game, that could be cool.

Well, if Bayonetta 2 can rise from its gwave I guess anything's possible. But Sega is up shit creek right now, which is why Nintendo stepped in to fund the rest of Bayo 2's development. If Sega couldn't fund Bayo 2 there's no hope for Vanquish, which had neither the success or fan cache that Bayo 1 had.

The way Sega is going, they'll definitely be in the grave alongside THQ in less than five years. Nintendo will probably end up inheriting their IPs.
At least, Sega America and Europe. As far as I know, Sega Japan is still doing okay with the Ryu ga Gotoku series, the Project Diva series, the PSO series, their wide lineup of social/mobile games, their Joypolis arcades, pachislots and arcade releases like Border Break. Binary Domain was also a chart-topping success in Japan, while a catastrophic failure elsewhere. I have no doubts that they will pull out of the West sometime in the near future.

THQ went through a massive downsizing and canceled a huge number of games, including Itagaki's Devil's Third (which recently found a new publisher). They're clinging to the industry by their fingernails.
When they die, publishers are going to flock to the WWE and UFC licenses like vultures.

I've always associated THQ with movie-license and Nickelodeon games anyhow.

They've completely gotten out of the movie and cartoon tie-in business as part of the downsizing, actually.EmperorIng wrote:I've always associated THQ with movie-license and Nickelodeon games anyhow.
Re: Wii U is 3 Wiis taped together ( WiiU )
It seems like THQ will soon be downsized to 0.
Re: Wii U is 3 Wiis taped together ( WiiU )
I really don't think Nintendo would go all in and scoop up Sega's IPs like that. They can barely manage their own legacy titles, and the current strategy seems to be shaving off little bits of other pubs in a controlled way. buying Monolith from Namco and Fatal Frame from Tecmo being two recent-ish examples.Op Intensify wrote:The way Sega is going, they'll definitely be in the grave alongside THQ in less than five years. I was wondering why, since Nintendo is struggling to grow in line with investor expectations and also with 3rd party support, they didn't just buy a major publisher. Then I realised, they have been - in an organic, piece-by-piece sort of way.
They just want to grow slowly.
I do think Sega will be around longer than 5 years. Their financial situation isn't *that* dire - so long as they don't make any risky investments (ie publishing Bayonetta 2) they'll be around for a while. They're just getting out of major retail investments and going f2p/mobile.

Re: Wii U. It's like Wii, but this time for You ( WiiU )
Nintendo says there will be a simple way to transfer Wiiware (and game saves, etc) from Wii to Wii U.
Nintendo rep wrote:you will be able to transfer your content from your Wii to the new Wii U. Wii U owners can wirelessly transfer content such as Miis, and WiiWare and Virtual Console games to their Wii U systems. Both systems will need to be connected to the Internet and the Wii U will need an SD card to facilitate the transfer. The process is very similar to transferring content from Nintendo DS to Nintendo 3DS or from Nintendo 3DS to Nintendo 3DS XL; which has been received positively by consumers. Transferred Wii content is accessible and can be played through Wii Mode, an application on the Wii U’s main menu.

Think I'll stay out of this one. Nintendo makes amazing consoles that only manage to collect dust for me as they never seem to have the support from developers I'm interested in. There's always a small handful of really amazing games and then it just drops off.
If the day comes when I get burned by the WiiU, its gonna be at the end of its lifespan when I actually know what games I'm buying it for.

Probably because they kept blowing a zillion $$ on press events/trips.Op Intensify wrote:THQ went through a massive downsizing and canceled a huge number of games, including Itagaki's Devil's Third (which recently found a new publisher). They're clinging to the industry by their fingernails.
I'm not particularly interested in the Wii U at the moment, same as I wasn't interested in the 3DS much until the XL. Personally I can get by on Nintendo's 1st party stuff for home console because that's usually enough to make it worthwhile, but as cmoon mentioned, it would be nice to have a little more dev variety to spice things up.
I'll definitely wait and see how things pan out before purchasing.

Took you a while, didn't it? Personally I don't consider N64 "amazing", though. It's easy to get on the RGB soapbox where I live, but at the end of the day it does make a difference. I'm still toying with the idea of buying a 'Cube + Game Boy Player combo. What holds me back is the price of first party RGB cables and bad reputation second party ones have. Just to stay on the safe side, I'd spend good money on another pile of retro tat hardly ever getting used. After all, GBA SP makes keeping my handheld games portable pretty convenient.CMoon wrote:If the day comes when I get burned by the WiiU, its gonna be at the end of its lifespan when I actually know what games I'm buying it for.
Protip - don't you be selling your "old" consoles (unless you need money BADLY). Not rowing in that boat makes refraining from buying new ones before the games you're interested in are out that easier.

Re: Wii U. It's like Wii, but this time for You ( WiiU )
Really? I bought some random RGB scart cable for my GC and it was fine. About the Game Boy Player, not all GBA games look well played on a TV screen; some have rather choppy scrolling because they were obviously intended for a GB LCD screen which has a lower refresh rate than 50/60Hz.Obiwanshinobi wrote:I'm still toying with the idea of buying a 'Cube + Game Boy Player combo. Sound advice. I never sell my old consoles.Obiwanshinobi wrote: Protip - don't you be selling your "old" consoles (unless you need money BADLY). Not rowing in that boat makes refraining from buying new ones before the games you're interested in are out that easier.
I too am a bit wary of Nintendo. Even though I only bought my Wii in 2009 (=more than 3 years after its launch), it still became a dust collector very soon. I don't have any buyer's remorse since there are at least 20 good games for the system, but the software supply was beyond pathetic considering how well Wii sold.CMoon wrote:*sighs*

I'm in no hurry to get a Wii U, especially taking into consideration that it's region-locked. Go hackers. Good things come to those who wait.

Re: Wii U. It's like Wii, but this time for You ( WiiU )
To be honest, I suspect that, provided the signal source is close enough to the monitor, cable quality intricacies boil down to snake oil. What I have for PS2 and PSX here looks (and was) super cheap, but I can't imagine, say, Sexy Parodius looking any better. Many interlaced games look neat as well (Odin Sphere for example).
Bought a third party SCART cable for my Wii not because it was cheaper, but with the additional stereo sound output in mind. Again, Super Monkey Ball looks as good as I could have reasonably hoped for, whereas those few Wii games that (in 640i) flicker like early PS2 games, do so because their devs gave up on deflickering rather than anything else.
If there's any major electromagnetic radiation aronud, you should be more concerned about your health than video signal quality anyways.

I didn't. GC was an amazing system with plenty of top-class exclusives, and the best versions of certain multiplats (RE4, Viewtiful Joe, Killer7, Twilight Princess).Got burned by the Gamecube
The controller was rather unfortunate, but it always worked very well for the games that were directly designed with it in mind.

Through about 5 more games on there and you've exhausted every game I enjoyed on that console.Op Intensify wrote:I didn't. Also, can't justify those Zelda games anymore. Not enough replay, not enough innovation, not enough solid gameplay. That franchise would have to do something really new to bring me back into the fold.

Skyward Sword would have been so much better if they let you select Hero Mode right off the bat.
Re: Wii U. It's like Wii, but this time for You ( WiiU )
Yeah the GC does have a lot of great titles as well as great ports, i.e. the Resident Evil Series; but those were later in the life cycle. It took a long time for the console to get going and by the time it did most multi-plats were ignoring it.Op Intensify wrote:I didn't. I haven't liked a single Nintendo home console after the SNES. I don't care about their first party titles and their hatred for complexity doesn't help things.
