JX360 Region Compatability Guide

Since stumbling onto this thread, figure I'll add to it.

Not sure if listing the obvious incompatibilities of the NTSC-U versions of Akai Katana, Deathsmiles, Raiden Fighters Aces and Raiden IV would benefit anyone but newcomers but it couldn't hurt.

Beautiful Katamari (NTSC-U) and Star Ocean: The Last Hope (NTSC-U) do not work on a Japanese console.

The following NTSC-U games do work:
Alone in the Dark
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3 (my copy doesn't load the game though, may be a faulty disc?)
Sega Superstars Tennis
Shadows of the Damned

Sonic Generations (NTSC-U) also works, and interestingly enough seems to boot up as the Japanese version with English text on by default. When unlocking music the Japanese logos are used, with Sonic Unleashed being named Sonic World Adventure and so forth.

I think Unleashed works too.

Persona 4 Arena is region locked. Beside the Japanese version not playing on NTSC-U systems, the same goes for the USA version on NTSC-J systems. Atlus' Japanese parent company justifies it by saying they don't want Japanese system owners importing the USA version for a lower price (damn you, weak dollar).

Is this thread really necessary, when Play Asia has such a big list? Is theirs inaccurate?

Depends on your perspective. I find the Play Asia one very hard to navigate, and it has very little information on the compatibility of PAL games. Remember, the PA list is primarily for people with domestic systems importing Japanese games. This list is for people who own Japanese consoles who want to play domestic games.

I think it's list of domestic games is pretty accurate too. I use it, when I buy a domestic release.
As for PAL, you may be right there.

I don't think it's "hard" to navigate...more time consuming and annoying.

Tentatively updating with the reports of both the NTSC-US and PAL versions of Metal Gear Rising working on a J360. Surprising stuff! I'm probably in the minority in that the amateur dramatics and sixth form philosophising were always my favourite aspects of Metal Gear, but if this is anything like Vanquish, I might possibly buy it when it inevitably ends up in a bargain bin for £3.99.

I find it ironic that even though the system was cracked to play pirated copied games ages ago with a simple bios/eprom flashing, nobody has produced or figured out some kind of region mod to turn the Xbox360 into a 100% region free console.
