Awesome animation for that era, I was wondering why this wasn't remade
It certainly doesn't need to be.
Dear god, do people actually want to see a cinematic classic raped? No offense to the capability of anyone who would try, but nothing would be gained from that. Grave is nearly perfect the way it is. Now to go make some more women watch it and cry.

Make sure and watch the same director's Harakiri and Kwaidan. Both are amazing.

I've always thought it was bad movies that should be remade. Hell, for every time a bad movie that is made, the same fucking director and staff should have to keep making it again and again until it is at least a reasonably good movie.

Glad someone discovered Grave of Fireflies. Doubt I've seen it more than three times, but you can love a movie and not want to inflict that kind of pain on yourself again.

I debate this in my head a lot. I think if a movie has a great premise or story, yet can't deliver at all, then yeah, maybe it should be remade. The Thing is always the best example I can think of. Completely different, original story is expanded upon, and was made to be genuinely terrifying.

Watched Kwaidan in a theater (old copy in a good shape). Boy, was that Fuji tape bonkers. I guess the colours on the best of Blurays or whatever will always be "not quite there".

Lucky - I'd love to see Kwaidan in that setting. Beautiful movie.

^Haha, oh godddd, noooooooo.

Watched Legionnaire with Van Damme last night. Kinda odd, since it's a big budget war drama. Lot's of characters you don't care about, a lame back story, etc. Decent, but not really worth watching for a Van Damme fan.

Ah, Riki-Oh. Such a terrible, terrible movie, but the cheese factor and the insane over-the-top nature of the affair make it a great movie for days when you're sick and want the shut your brain off.

I've been on a no brainer bender.

The Punisher

Like Thomas Jane, good actor, movie too lightweight and formulaic. Not violent enough, Travolta a silly bad guy, dialogue useless. Bit of a shame there weren't more scenes like the last.

The Punisher: War Zone

Irish chap better than expected, movie has the right level of violence and made me laugh. Blue and yellow lighting was annoyingly overused and looked cheap, Jigsaw wasn't represented well, far too manic, too many peripheral pointless characters, no credible plotting, too much crappy metal music. Good exploding heads.

DREDD

Against all odds, much better than expected. Destroys the Stallone movie to within an inch of its life. Alex Garland screenplay, but seemingly robbed the general concept from The Raid. There are worse films to plagiarise, however.
Unrepentantly violent (as it should be) and Dredd and Anderson were good. Some of the other characters/acting was redundant, but as no brainers go, this worked because it really was Judge Dredd/2000AD/Mega City One properly represented.
WARNING: If you don't know Dredd through 2000AD comics, you will probably hate this movie. There's very little there to connect with otherwise.

Unfortunately he's not. If it's any consolation, the film is so gritty violent it might be even more extreme than the comic... Maybe.

Riki-Oh is one of the best films ever made. Only "Master Of The Flying Guillotine" is better (with a music score by Neu! of all bands) 8)

Geee, what a day:

La Dolce Vita
Galaxy of Terror
Point Break

Then went crazy on Netflix and watched (most of) some Uwe Boll movies:

In the Name of the King 2
Rampage

Both were shit. But you knew that.

Oh man, I completely cannot agree with this. The first season was well done, but the second just dragged on and on and on and on and on. There was maybe 6 episodes worth of story there. Also Shane took way too long to die.

Crazy Stone. Didn't think this would be all that good, but the movie by the end had me laughing quite a lot. what a bunch of idiot robbers! Even the so called "professional" was crap. Turned out to be a funny heist movie and it didn't disappoint me.

Decided to take a break from the shitload of asian films I've been watching lately and ended up watching Kick-Ass. Hadn't seen it since it was in theatres and it ended up being a lot better than I remembered. Completely over-the-top with a bizarrely great bit of Nic Cage being Nic Cage.

Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. So perfect. Seagal is the man. Should have done a count of bodies falling long distances, only to smack against the side of something.

Tiny Toons: How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Missed this show when I was young due to... I don't know. I can't believe I missed this back then, when I was so crazy for Tiny Toons.

Animaniacs had better comedy writing. Still, I think I've seen every Tiny Toons episode they made, while I saw maybe half of Animaniacs... never got around to finish watching it 8)

Strange Days

An utter mess from beginning to end. Cameron writing, Bigelow directing. No fucking idea what went wrong there, but I'm glad the public didn't vote with their wallets. Bad script, bad editing, bad casting, bad soundtrack, bad plot, bad acting, and a non-entity of a twist. Yuck. Typifies the worst of 90's movies/teen crazes.
Even Ralph Fiennes was bad, and he's normally good. :?

Haven't watched any movies in a while, but saw Coppola's The Conversation, which is probably the closest I'll ever get to really enjoying a film by that director. Understated, but amazingly well controlled/edited. It is not a movie loaded with emotion or an overly complicated plot. Comparable in a lot of ways to movies we've discussed lately like Drive. Early 70's, somewhat gritty and passionless with a satisfying twist at the end. Still a few things to ponder at the end.

Probably all of you have seen it already, but while it is streaming on netflix it's worth a shot if you haven't.

The Music of Chance

Thanks to WKL for helping find the name.

Really well made film based on a book of the same name, in which every development appears to be at the complete mercy of chance, no matter how extraordinary. At the same time, it's a character study on deception that makes you really try to explore what the character's true motives are, and a commentary on capitalistic power.

James Spader was really terrific in this. I've seen him in plenty of films and he's always decent, but kind of a non-entity somehow, whereas here he turned in a really top notch performance.

Interesting little movie!

It is a bit frustrating since it's based on surveillance and that conversation is played over and over, but we... anyway, great film. I love Gene Hackman in this. If people need something a little less complicated/obtuse, then they should watch Brian DePalma's Blow Out. It's gotta Criterion release, so it'll look great at least.
