Kaitei Daisensou (In The Hunt) manga

Post by murquiel »

I have acquired a phsyical copy of the entire tankoubon of Kaitei Daisensou (In the Hunt). It dates back all the way to 1993.

The question is, what do you folks suggest I do? It's an inch thick and I'm not sure on this forum policy regarding scanlations...

I am more surprised than anything that of all the things to make a manga out of, In the Hunt is one of them.

I can understand Ikaruga with its pretentious plot, but In the Hunt?

Great find! I'd love to see some of the artwork, at the least.

Holy shit. Did not know this existed. Was it a Gamest publication? I know there was also an Undercover Cops manga from them.

Scanlations of obscure OOP works are fine, we've had the Ibara manga posted here before. I would highly recommend scanning and posting it so one of our resident JPN bilinguals (probably Blackoak) can translate it.

Undercover Cops' manga looks pretty ridiculous too. I have that one.

Ha ha, oh man, if that's what it is, that looks really ridiculously awesome.

Girls with guns, submarines, bad dudes with sunglasses and pompadours, and school-girls (who also have guns)?
Right up my alley!

If that is it, I may see if I can get my hands on it. I don't think I'd be able to do it alone so hopefully blackoak and Muchi Muchi Spork would be up for it as well. I'd love to see that thing translated and posted for all to enjoy. :D

If anyone could get this translated I think a lot of people on this forum and others would be very grateful. I'm expecting shades of Jules Verne and Atragon... but anything would make me happy.

An inch, you say?

...how many pages is that?
My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself

Hah, that's Masato Natsumoto (Gunbird 2), right? Interested in seeing scans of this.

Yes that is the cover.

I already approached anonymous-scans and desudesu about this; haven't heard from them yet. As I have said, I have a physical copy with me.

The Undercover Cops manga, I think this is what you guys mean?

If you can get me the scans, I can work on it. I actually bought most of the Gamest shmups comics a month ago, but I've been lazy about debinding them for scanning. I also don't know photoshop well anymore so the actual text insertion is another barrier.

If you look at the original Japanese In The Hunt arcade flyer that was produced by Irem, some of the names of the various continents are available for your perusual. Even the some of the end-stage bosses are shown with their proper names as well.

Would be interesting to read the English translation of this cool ItH manga indeed. Please make it so.

Fascinating tidbit to learn that Masato Natsumoto (Gunbird 2) did the artwork for the ItH manga.

The first one (with the goofy looking girl alone on the gover) is the one I've got.

As I recall, there was an extended beach vacation section.

Highly relevant.

I can't find the right arcade flyers for the game, sorry. I only saw one with the names covered up.

I've skimmed through the manga and here's a lowdown:

1. The Granvia submarines are pretty small and are made to fit one pilot directly in front and below the island section of the submarine. There are two Granvia Male-types, one gets destroyed and the Granvia Female shows up a little around the halfway point in the manga. Beardstache guy and the blue haired lady are the first two pilots; blue haired lady gets kidnapped and the pilot for Granvia Female is someone else.

2. The events of the game aren't followed as tightly. The latter half of the game stages are re-ordered around in the manga. The three-headed sea monsters from the Deep Dark Sea stage makes a recurring appearance throughout the second half of the manga.

3. The manga is at least 260 pages long. Amazing how they squeezed out that many ideas.

With artwork as good as In the Hunt, the ideas should sort of just write themselves. :D

Sorry guys, I only have Frenetic and his friend willing to translate. Bigger translation groups are harder for me to get in touch with.
