Rayman Origins needs to be on the upper tier list. Easily one of the best 2D platformers I have played in a while.

Just spent about 3 hours playing Ghost Squad w/ my sister. Fun shit, although a bit on the bland side for my tastes. Look forward to unlocking some weapons.

Also, how in god's name are you supposed to play without a reticle?! I'm glad you can toggle it on (at the expense of points), but is there some light gun peripheral for the Wii I'm unaware of?

Also, Excite Truck def deserves upper tier. If folks don't specify a tier, I'll just put it in middle and you can correct me (if you care).

Rhythm Heaven in Upper Tier
Gunblade NY and L.A. Machineguns in ports.
Geometry Wars Galaxies in Middle Tier

Get that Mario Galaxy crap off god tier. No game that easy should get top props

I never got the Mario-Galaxy-is-easy thing. There are some really hard stages in that game and even the easy ones I wasn't sleepwalking through. Maybe I'm just shit at platforming in 3D.

I rate Excite Truck on a par with S&P2. I'm pretty sure the former ends up as about most frequently played Wii game for those who own it. If I'm right about that, this has to count for something.
Possibly THE Wii-defining game in my book. Other games I played are fun and all, but they don't make the console "essential" so to speak. S&P2, for instance, I can imagine played emulated on a PC with mouse and keyboard. Other games could be PS2 or GameCube games. Excite Truck, however, while imaginable played with analogue stick on some other platform, has got that wild flavour going for it. No idea if horse-breaking is anything like handling those machines, but that's the analogy coming to my mind. Playing Excite Truck is like doing your best to tame a beast.

Not sure why Excitebots (Excite Truck's sequel) is so disliked, sure it's more focused on motion controls and minigames (think Outrun 2 heart attack mode, not Mario Party), but there's still some very nice changes in it. Personally I'd place both games in God tier :P

Dead Space Extraction's a fun lightgun shooter.

a boy and his blob is a decent action/platformer, not sure I would say it's very good, but people liked Braid so what do I know...

My advice would be to stick with Ghost Squad. As you progress, each stage levels up and gets harder... And then subsequently unlocks more difficult (and less bland) paths through said stages. Skipping through the cut scenes also helps to keep the action moving along.

I haven't gotten serious enough about score to play without the reticle... Though in the game you will find "dot sight" items scattered around the stages. When playing with no reticle, those items give you a small dot reticle. I believe some of the guns unlocked later in the game come with a perma-dot sight, which helps immensely. Ghost Squad was available bundled with the Wii Zapper in Japan. Unfortunately, the Wii Zapper sucks (just look at that pic!). I own one, and never use it, as I haven't found it to be any easier to aim with.

Thanks for the tip; I was toying with the idea of getting one. I also saw something called a Wii blaster at gamestop the other day. Basically a zapper minus the nunchuk part. Might be a minor ergonomic improvement. *shrug*

Anyone have any experience using the Wii steering wheel with Excite Truck? Was thinking of getting one of those just for the purpose. Not sure if it'd impede tilting forward and back, though.

I don't have Ghost Squad so I can't tell how well this would work with it, but damn if it's manliness points aren't a tier higher over the Wii Zapper.

That looks like it's based off the pump shotguns used in HotD3's arcade version. Was it only sold in Europe or something?

Relevant: Nintendo Power will publish its final issue soon.

Picked up The Last Story the other day, having a lot of fun with the game, easily one of the better games on Wii. Just for god's sake, play with manual control turned on, makes it so much better, unless you wanna play it like Ys I & II or something :P

I heard Last Story is pathetically easy, even on manual. Sell me on it.

No, I purchased mine from eBay, actually. Searching for "wii buckshot" brings up several hits.

It may not be all that difficult, but the battles (at least so far) have been varied enough to be fun and interesting. Hasn't really felt like I've done the exact same thing for different fights. Once you get the hang of all your options in combat, it's very fun utilizing all your abilities to take out enemies. Multiplayer is kinda ehhhh, but that's to be expected. Fun to dick around with a little though.

I just finished the first Galaxy game for the first time last week. The main game was a cakewalk, but those optional/unlockable stages--some of them are pretty tough. I'd say some are even at borderline-Super Mario Bros. 2 (Famicom) levels. Maybe not THAT challenging, but definitely a polar opposite from the main game stages.

Can't believe I'm the first to recommend Little King's Story. It's amazing. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's in my top 5 games of this generation. While it's essentially medieval pikmin, that's selling the game short. It's extremely creative, perfectly paced, and I think the level of challenge is just right. Also, I get the feeling that it's the sort of game that has very wide appeal; I haven't heard of anyone who's played it and not enjoyed it. Sadly, not too many people have played it. If you own a Wii, you've got to give this game a try.

Shiren is also on DS (Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderder). I vaguely recall playing it and didn't like it that much. Not sure if it's the same as the one on Wii and PSP though?

Nah it's a different game. Shiren DS is a port+extras of first Shiren game on SFC. There was a Shiren DS 2 that was JP only, but there's a half-way decent translation patch out there for it. Shiren Wii/PSP is known in Japan as Shiren 3. There have also been Shiren 4 & 5 for the DS in Japan, neither of which I've played.

Shiren DS is definitely the must-have title in the series. Shiren DS 2 changes up the mechanics and adds some interesting things, worth checking out if not as good as the original. Shiren 3 eases you into the roguelike world very slowly. Once you get through the story things get interesting, although there are short "true roguelike" bonus dungeons you can access whenever you want during the story. I'd recommend the PSP version (JP only, but a good fan translation patch is available) over the Wii version, as it runs and looks better, but both are good.

I have no idea if this is the going rate right now... but new copies of Sin and Punishment: Star Successor are currently selling for $11.96 at Amazon. Anyone who hasn't purchased it yet, should do so IMMEDIATELY at that price.

Yeah that's pretty standard. Used price has been like $10 for the longest time. New often doesn't exceed $15. Shame it's too niche.
