This is great. Thanks.
I'd like to request video embedding, at least for the strategy forum. Things would look much better and clearer if example videos could be watched directly from the thread, in my opinion.

Video embedding could get out of hand very quickly and crash people's browsers. It should definitely be kept out of shmups chat/off topic, at least.
Re: New forum function: TABLES!
Yeah, but I think it would harm no one if it's just for the strategy forum. Linking video URLs doesn't look as good and people may miss them since they don't stand out as much.
Re: New forum function: TABLES!
How many people are using Internet Exploder and machines with 1GB of RAM? And who opens multiple videos at once? There's play buttons before loading at Youtube, at least.Op Intensify wrote:Video embedding could get out of hand very quickly and crash people's browsers. I'd be more worried about video links dying, myself, and making threads unsightly or hard to follow.

Re: New forum function: TABLES!
I didn't mean "crash" so much as "freeze their browsers for 10 seconds." That happens even on my dual-core Win 7 machine in forum threads with a gazillion Youtube embeds.
It's just really unwieldy and causes needless clutter. Even moreso with dead links. It would probably be fine for the strategy or hi score boards, though.

This is a perfect description of how I normally browse the internet.Ed Oscuro wrote:How many people are using Internet Exploder and machines with 1GB of RAM?
I don't know about Firefox (haven't used it since 3, and barely even used it then), but there are a few things I don't like as much about Chrome (though I do use it as a secondary), like the prompt to automatically translate pages (which comes back whenever you manually translate a page) and how you can't highlight something and translate it with a right-click option like you can with IE's Google toolbar.
Re: New forum function: TABLES!
Firefox is the solution to everybody's problems, along with noscript + flashblock. Firefox only gets squirrelly on me when it's pulling 2.7GB of RAM (out of 6GB).
IE is terrible and bad for you. Don't use it; it's not as safe as the others. Also, another 1GB stick of ram will be how much these days? Not much, even after floods and the bankruptcy of one of the major RAM manufacturers. Especially inexcusable if you have a 64-bit machine, even a laptop.

Re: New forum function: TABLES!
Video embedding on a forum that shows as many topics on one page as this one does, would just be a bad idea. Numerous external video links + autoplay being set + quoting = a bloody nightmare and a slow browsing experience. I do, however, agree that they would be a benefit to the strategy forum. Most of the posts there that would use them are guides, not discussions. Plus this allows the author to attach his commentary to the embedded video to make explaining things a lot easier. I could see Hardware potentially benefiting as well if anyone is writing a guide or how-to style post there.

Re: New forum function: TABLES!
That's because of how the BBCode is coded. The table is coded to take up 75% of the available horizontal space (so when you resize your browser window, the table also changes size) and so even when the table's contents take up very little space, the table itself expands to take that 75% nonetheless. The unevenness is because the content takes up varying amounts of space between the tables, for example in Zone H "Smraedis" takes much more space than "CHI" in Zone I, so the columns are sized differently, even if there's plenty of empty space available. The "problem" looks worse the more horizontal space your browser screen has. There's really nothing that can be done about it.
As for the video...ehhh, I'll think about it. At the most it would be for Strategy section only, that's for sure.
