trap15 wrote:Download for a fully setup XM6 Type G right here: http://daifukkat.su/files/xm6typeg.zip
Has all the BIOS ROMs and that other stuff you need, and the Super Star Shooter disk image. Just load it, insert the floppy and it's good to go.
Note: The BIOS ROMs were released public domain by SHARP, so I'm not doing anything bad :3c
For those of you having issues with the JoyKey mode, make sure you go into Options->Joystick and set Device A to JoyKey, and Port 1 (or whatever it's called) to ATARI. You can configure some stuff in Details next to the Device A thing.
EDIT: To setup autofire, go into Options->Joystick, hit details on the device, create another button mapped for button A, set Rapid to 30.
trap15 wrote:XM6 Type G is better than WinX68k (and WinX68k HighSpeed)
The last time I used X68000 emulation was when HighSpeed was the best option, so I'll have to look around at configuring these myself.

The link in the other thread brings me to Zophar's domain, which looks to be a super resource: i've since downloaded 8 new toolbars and seen 3,200 ads for Edy's fruit bars and Pizza Hut. However, I still don't have anything that runs shooting games.
And there is a link on Zophar's to the author's homepages for any emulators there. I always prefer to go to the author's pages to make sure and get the latest version.
You'll also need the BIOS images for the x68k and an image of Super Derp Shooter, which we probably can't link to.
Despatche wrote:Oh right, this game uses the XF1 keys. Seems I forgot everything about X68000 emulation today!
Don't bother with Joykey Mode or whatever. Go to Tools->Options and click the Keyboard tab. You've probably already done this part (I don't know if TFII uses numpad or not)... scroll down until you hit the 40s (in the "No." column), and the binds for the numpad keys should be there; click on the binds for numpad 2/4/6/8 and set them to the appropriate arrow keys. Then scroll down to the 50s and find XF1 and XF2; map those to Z and X. Bind another if you want, though this game only uses 2. If any of this doesn't work, delete XM6g.ini and try again, I guess.
Also, I figured out how to "unstretch" the screen. Tools->Options, click the Display tab. Find the slider for 31khz Width (third one on the right) and set it all the way to the left (75%). Everything else will be squished, but the "square verts" (Super Star Shooter, the Zero games, Moon Cresta & Terra Cresta, others) seem to be made for this size. I have no idea if the normal stretching is standard hardware behavior and you need to manually change it yourself, or if games automatically switch some settings when they load, etc.
Zeether wrote:If JoyKey isn't working, try changing the joystick type to Atari under the options. Worked fine for me. In the JoyKey config it should label buttons 1 and 2 as (A) and (B) if you did it right.
Unfortunately it worked first time for me. But I'm hoping that if people keep having problems, the week will be declared a washout and we'll get to play one of the other games instead.
Rupert H wrote:It has also been ported to the Wii via the Home Brew Channel. For those with HBC-enabled Wii's this is by far the easiest way to play this game.
Unfortunately we've established that this is not the same version of the game, and thus not eligible for entry into STGT.
Followed the download in the fist quote box above. Extracted zipped file to its own folder. Ran the exe. Clicked "Tools" and then "options" and then "joystick" and changed "Device A" to "JoyKey". Press "OK"
Then clicked "Floppy 0" on main tool bar and the "open" which took me to the rom of the game. Double clicked it. Game started.
Press "z" on your keyboard to change the game mode.

How do I get it to work with a joystick?
In Winx68k I just had to map the joystick input to my Mayflash adapter. There should be a similar option in XM6 I would imagine.

Oh...
Looks like I've been wasting my time for the passed few days. That'll teach me not to read the entire thread.
Finally got this working (proper X68 ver.), should post a score soon. I can't believe how much I procrastinated with Galuda last week, not repeating that.

I second this notion. Barrier of entry is too strict to make this week competitive.

I should have played Galuda more too. My power supply broke, and it took a couple days to get a new one. I was able to get XM6 up and working just fine. I couldn't find a way to screen capture with XM6, though.
Can someone explain how to set up Xpadder to work with WinX68k HighSpeed? I just can't get it to work. I think I'm mapping the correct keys (arrows, alt, z), but it will move the ship only one pixel in each direction when using the d-pad. I find this very strange, as I never had any problems getting Xpadder to work with anything else. If I forget about joykey mode, WinX68k HighSpeed works just fine with my USB Saturn pad, but then I don't have the option to use autofire on the thrust button.
XM6 refuses to work for me outright. It still gives me that side-by-side error thingy, even after installing all that VisualC++ library crap.

It might be trying to 'autofire' the movement directions as well? I think this happened to me with one of the non-standard MAME builds.

That's what I thought, too, but the turbo option for the directional buttons is off, I double-checked that.

------------------------------------
For those of you who can't get XM6 Type G to open, install the 3 links at the top of this site: http://www.geocities.jp/kugimoto0715/xm6g.html
Without the correct Visual C++ installed, I also got the Side-by-side configuration error thingy..
Then I tried the 1st file from the link: same difference..
Then the 3rd file (③Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 再頒布可能パッケージ MFC / the vcredist_x86.EXE file) Which worked and now let's me start the emulator..
Thought I had this working, but I'm getting a strange problem where I can't move laterally. Vertical movement is fine, all my key bindings are correct. The ship is stuck in the frame of animation for right movement even when standing still.

Thx for all the links, trap15
I somehow got it running by re-installing that same file. I don't know why it works now all of a sudden, because I did, in fact, install it before. Twice.
However, in comparison to WinX68k I now got autofire, but also a ton of input lag. I don't think I can improve my score any further.

Anyone? Can't participate if I don't fix this soon. I tried disabling the keyboard and using joypad movement only, and it didn't help.
This was a terrible idea for the competition, by the way. Next year, anything with a higher barrier to entry than MAME should be banned.
