Oh right, sorry - yeah, consensus is that the US Aero Fighters 3 AES is a well-made fake, as is the US Power Spikers 2 AES. But the drama is ongoing!

Aye, yeah...I stayed up till like 4:30 last night reading the entire thread and all the debating and what-not. Pretty wacky stuff. I feel like we are in some weird crime-ring.

lol, it's turning into a full-scale counterfeiting operation spanning multiple countries! Allegedly... Image

The AES may be a waste of time as a game system but lord does it deliver the best soap operas.

Another proto NES cartridge...

Btw, that super rare (most likely fake) Kizuna Encounter auction has ended. Winning bid: 14,694.92 $.

why do most people assume that the Kizuna is/was fake ? I know somebody who has the game. Known him since childhood days and all the time during the 16-bit era. He's not active in the community and not interested in selling anything. He basically got every european NG AES back in the days when Maro in Germany was distributing the games. I would assume that there are dozens of copies around here in Germany and the owners have no idea what they've got sitting in the basement.

I would assume that any high value Neo home cart on Ebay is fake unless there's a way to prove otherwise. Any sane person would do the same.

I don't think it was a fake, at least not an obvious one. The only way to tell would be a close inspection. Those who instantly screamed fake without having access to a real copy (or at least hi-res scans of one) to compare it with were basically talking out of their ass. Of course even if it's real, that doesn't make it any less insane to pay EUR 11,950.00 / US $14,747.50 for this game, considering you can buy an MVS copy for EUR 100 / US $125.

AES and MVS carts are totally different.

Well, in terms of valuation anyway, I know that they actually both contain the same program code, and it's just the system BIOS that affects how they boot up. And you can also get adapters to play MVS carts on an AES.

Maybe similar to how Japanese Progear boards are worth more than the US ones?

Anyhow, AES carts were produced in much smaller quantities, and were very expensive even when they were new. MVS carts, because they were bound for the arcade market and would have been generating revenue for the operator would basically decline in value as they earned money. As an example, if you paid $200 for a new MVS cart, and it made you $400 in revenue, you really wouldn't care what you sold it for, it's already paid for itself twice. AES carts were never operating this way, so their value really can only go up. Plus AES carts generally look better and didn't get as beat up as MVS carts would have.

There are some expensive MVS carts for sure, because they're quite rare or very desirable or didn't have an AES release (Nightmare in the Dark, Twinkle Star Sprites) but even then a rare MVS cart would probably only be $200 - 250 with artwork. They'll never be worth as much some of the AES carts.

Yeah of course some of it is 'collectors' going a bit ZOMG RARE and driving up the price, but that's true for anything so hardly surprising.

Or if you want the home cart presentation, get a Japanese AES copy for a fraction of the cost. But this isn't about practicality, of course.

It may look that way, but apparently it's legit. The seller is that Lost Levels guy, Frank Cifaldi. He was also nice enough to dump the ROM years ago (you can find it online). It's completely translated but still contains spelling errors and Engrish.

boot for sure ... lack of the key notch on the JAMMA connector and the handwritten "TRUXTON 2" are a dead giveaway.

40K sek is U$6,000!!!! Originals don't sell for that much ...

Bah, so it really was a Turbo Express. I was hoping my PC GT had gained in value dramatically

About AES games - some are actually cheaper now (probably even before inflation) than they were back in the day. I think the Art of Fighting games and the first two Samurai Spirits / Shodown games qualify, as do some of the other launch titles most likely.

The legendary Pulstar for the Neo Geo CD! Care to make an offer? Too bad, auction has ended.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/neo-geo-cd-PULS ... 3379094326

Why so expensive? Because it has the SPINE CARD! How dare you even ask! That little piece of paper is worth AT LEAST $900!

Collecting has become a sport? Collecting "shmups" is akin to collecting Star Trek memorabilia? People are probably ruining their lives?

You know he/she is going to relist and someone will make an offer of like $600+ and it will get done. It was looked at 96 TIMES!!!

It's just...wow.

Definitely. I am an avid spectator. Even if both of my hands are blown off in a freak XII Stag accident I'll still enjoy fiascos like the Aero Fighters 3 soap opera.

I like to unfold spinies and store them in the middle of the manual! Out of sight, out of mind, unless I sell the game in question and then it's MAD $$$ TIME

Also, some actually look pretty neat.
