1. Radio Zonde
2. Radio Zonde
3. Parsec47
4. Nomltest

Of those, I only get to play nomltest lately because I just have an old laptop. It's frustrating.

Perfect Cherry Blossom is perhaps my favorite overall, though I also like Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (a bit simpler than PCB) and Imperishable Night (a bit more complicated). Bike Banditz is also great, if you can find it. Then, of course, there are the ever-present Cho-Ren-Sha and Warning Forever. There are others I like too, but those are the standouts for me.

My faves are probably Cho Ren Sha 68k and Kenta Cho's efforts.

I haven't bought any of the bigger PC releases, although I plan to at some point. I've been trying to get the Kamui demo for quite a while now. Does anybody have a link to a direct download?

Cheers!

Shoot the Core has a link to Vector, as far as I can tell the download there still works.

The Kamui demo is still available on Siter Skain's website:
http://www.siterskain.com/products/data ... index.html

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and there should be a link with a file called: KamuiTrialSetup.exe
Download and run the file. Remember that F2 switches between window and full-screen.

I really enjoy Galshell: Blood Red Skies.

Horrible, horrible visuals and atmosphere. (And I mean that in a good way.)

Die Slave

Also "Aqua Cube" is supposed to be a nice Tunder Force V PC clone.

how about these!!

in no particular order:

Raptor: Call of the shadows (DOS, windows port is now available but seems to run slower... has a life bar but it's still pretty hard... cool weapon shop thingy)

Starfire (DOS, very cheap 8bit looking game, it was actually pretty fun when I was younger, havn't played it since... It's a gg)

Stargunner (DOS, side spacey side scroller game with pretty nice graphics)

Tyrian (DOS, doesn't run on my comp too good with an emulator so I can't say, I missed out on this one back in the dos days :(

Overkill (DOS!! It was alright, kind of like tyrian if I remember correct as you get a shield and stuff? well, it was pretty fun)

Major Stryker (DOS, this game wasn't so great imho, but you might like it. I think it's a bit of a raiden type game, or at least tries to be.. not manic at all. Got some nice story bits :O)

Demon Star (Windows. Apparently the sequel to Raptor, from the same developers Mountain King. It's really not anywhere near as good though... Raiden clone)

Raiden I/II (Ports of the arcade games... which is good because mame can't run them... I think you can get these off of HOTU, fyi...)

Kiloblaster (DOS, same developers as Overkill, but if I recall it had much nicer graphics and stuff... shit these games are old man, I kinda miss em...)

Solar Winds (DOS, another EPIC MEGAGAMES title... it's a 360 shooter if your into that... lots of story elements... Quite similar to the newish game Starscape, but I liked Solar Winds better because I think it's prettier and has more depth... just my opinion...)

Starscape (WINDOWS... just mentioned this game above heh... It's basically like Solar Winds but it sucks ass kinda, and it's got 3D stuff... Personally I don't think the 3D was an improvement in this case! Also the story is very much not-interesting)

Fire Fight! (WINDOWS!! another Epic Megagames title, this one was a LOOOOT of fun for me :) It's another 360 shooter, and you can even play it on a network with friends :) The music is kick ass, when I was on vacation in the USA a couple years ago I got a copy of this game on CD and i actually listened to it in my CD player quite a bit because the tunes are really kick ass :) Anyway, it's not really very arcadey, but if you're willing to play Thunderforce with the over head levels, this is pretty similar, just more forgiving health-wise, less forgiving ammo-wise, and much much prettier :) it's also got some various mission objectives and the like... give it a shot.. you can get this from HOTU, and also a hacked version with additional levels)

Zone 88 (DOS, when I bought this years ago it didn't work on either of my 486 computers, but apparently it's really good.. go figure. If you can get it work, you should let me know what its like I'd be curious)

ummmm that's pretty much all I can come up with off the top of my head... guess that's not that many. There are so many old DOS shooters but they really didn't stand out enough and it was really hard to tell them from one another... maybe i'll go through my backup CDRs some time and list a bunch of other ones that probably aren't even worth mentioning :P

Star Goose. It's an old DOS game with some very cool and attractive EGA graphics. Very different from any other shooter I've ever played too.

Kamui

And if you have the proper MIDI hardware the original MIDI soundtrack still rocks the house; vastly superior to the other options including the ogg. The updates also nicely cleaned up several issues like the pause before the bosses and some graphical effects.

Might have sourced new copies, keeping my fingers crossed.

I haven't played too many PC shmup, but of the ones I've played, I gotta go for Xtom 3D by Jamie System. Forgot the website(just google it), but I still have the demo and its fairly fun. Theres nothin that original about the gameplay, but its different ships(3 in all, only 2 in demo)are distintive, as one ship(the Xtom)could use bombs and has machine guns that fire autofire at near enemies, and the Warlock has three different selectable attacks, a normal shot, some sort of homing thingy, and a sheild thingy(sometimes fun, but overall useless I find). But what I really love, is the cinimatic presentations of the levels, as the 3D engine isnt used too much for gameplay, but the scripted sequences in 3D are quite awesome, and it just adds a lot to the game. Besides, I think PC shmups could learn a thing or too from heavily scripted shmups like this one and others in the arcades/consoles.

Jets'n'Guns
Steel Savior

Z-Lock is pretty awesome, just came out. Everytime you hit the shot button, the enemies lock to your position, but the more enemies lock to you, the more powerful your shot is. Rivals the better Kenta Cho games IMO.

Blue Wish is a Cave clone with a fun and basic scoring system. Kind of a mix of Ketsui and Mushihime. Graphics suck but the game is really fun.

Fourth Generation (1997) by Webfoot Technologies, is another nice DOS shooter that was initially supposed to be released for the AMIGA 1200.
Features some really nice pre-rendered graphics & is playable in WinXP even without DosBox Emu. Of course it will be a bitch trying to configure the sound without the emu, but the game is well worth to track down.

Platypus is a nice horizontal PC cute em up that looks as it’s made out of clay. Reminds me of an old 1997 PC adventure game that I can’t recall its name right now.

Samidare, Imperishable Night, Tumiki Fighters, and Every Extend are some of my favorites.

I have yet to buy Phantasmagoria. I've played the demo and it looks cool so I'll probably pick it up shortly. Also, I can't wait for Every Extend Extra :D
