concerning strategy, etc: highlight 5 minute mode and wait for the demo. i think it even uses autofire.

not when you have a giant pause where there's no need to shoot!

Would someone please help me get this goddamned program set up so I can play this game?

I'm trying to use XM6, and I can't get it to accept my keyboard controls. I've tried using every COM port in the Truekey section, joykey mode on and off for each one, the software keyboard shows that the EMU is registering my key presses, and to top it all off, Thunder Force II runs without a hitch using my keyboard. But Super Star Shooter will not let me use my keyboard at all, except to enable/disable mouse mode. I'd happily use winx68k high speed v095, but it won't let me alter the key mappings for the firing/thrust keys (the Z and X keys don't show up in the options menu where you can remap keys... nor do ANY of the letters on the keyboard), and that EMU has the weird control issues I've described before (again, only with Super Star Shooter... TF2 runs fine with the keyboard).

The game looks fun, but I've yet to find an EMU that'll let me play the fucking thing without serious issues after two days and trial and error. And no, I don't have a PC controller.

Sincerely,

A Frustrated Shmuper.

The BIOS images are public domain, and the game is freeware, so it's fine to link for both.

I don't. I emulate for STGT, that's it. I don't download anything else the rest of the year. I'm just an old and crusty real hardware player. Your fancy emulators, bios, and roms confuse me.

Did you download what trap linked? If so, this game should work fine.

There's also a new version of XM6 TypeG for anyone who wants it, came out last month.

I did, and my keyboard still wouldn't work with the game in XM6. There's just something about this game that won't cooperate with my keyboard, despite that in the EMU's software keyboard, it detects my button presses. It's like the EMU doesn't know what the arrow keys and Z/X keys are for; as if there are no actions assigned to them, whether the joykey option is on or off. I've literally pressed every key on my keyboard, and the only thing that happens in XM6 is the mouse option being turned on and off, or the occasional boost to the EMU's speed.

Nah, the bonus goes up to 80k by the end. I think it's about 106k points for all of them. The attract mode has the locations.

Oh right, this game uses the XF1 keys. Seems I forgot everything about X68000 emulation today!

Don't bother with Joykey Mode or whatever. Go to Tools->Options and click the Keyboard tab. You've probably already done this part (I don't know if TFII uses numpad or not)... scroll down until you hit the 40s (in the "No." column), and the binds for the numpad keys should be there; click on the binds for numpad 2/4/6/8 and set them to the appropriate arrow keys. Then scroll down to the 50s and find XF1 and XF2; map those to Z and X. Bind another if you want, though this game only uses 2. If any of this doesn't work, delete XM6g.ini and try again, I guess.

Also, I figured out how to "unstretch" the screen. Tools->Options, click the Display tab. Find the slider for 31khz Width (third one on the right) and set it all the way to the left (75%). Everything else will be squished, but the "square verts" (Super Star Shooter, the Zero games, Moon Cresta & Terra Cresta, others) seem to be made for this size. I have no idea if the normal stretching is standard hardware behavior and you need to manually change it yourself, or if games automatically switch some settings when they load, etc.

If JoyKey isn't working, try changing the joystick type to Atari under the options. Worked fine for me. In the JoyKey config it should label buttons 1 and 2 as (A) and (B) if you did it right.

Thanks for the info. XM6 is being cooperative now.

I got all the bonuses, maybe missed a missile ship or something. This would easily be improvable, though.

It means "5 minutes game", the latter simply is the scoreboard.
