Er, how are you supposed to uncover those panels? By touching them, shooting, what? They seem to build up to a lot of points but I only find like 5, and my score ends up shitty. Would probably not dislike this so much if there were some explanation as to what scoring strategy is, and I'm having trouble finding any strategy info on this game.

It's becuase they made the same button for skipping the score as the button for shooting. It's too easy to keep the button held down and skip the screen.

Edit: Doh, forgot the score.

How do you defeat the stage 2 boss? I keep suiciding to spam the speed-change short-range exhaust thingy but I can't seem to do it without losing at least 2 lives :(

You broke 2 million without killing the boss? I think it was only the final bonus that pushed me over 1m! :P

Still not sure where everybody's getting these points from - I'm destroying pretty much everything. I suppose the hidden tiles are pretty damned important. Only found a few of 'em, so far - highest bonus I've had from them is 10,000, I think. Possibly 5!

I was asking about how to kill the boss since I want to lose fewer lives to get a bigger endbonus. (Apparently you have to get inside it at the start and mash the fuck out of your boost but my fingers do not move that fast.) As to how I got such a high score, the enemies that drop chains of missiles straight down are worth a bunch if you're max power and positioned just right. I think you can get 150k from each of them. Then there are some good bonuses for the typical double-shot and getting inside the round enemy, the usual caravan things.

I didn't trigger any tiles.

You get a lot of the points from milking the rocket guys and from killing enemies as fast as possible (to spawn more rocket guys )

For the boost, XM6 Type G has autofire. I've got it mapped to one of my buttons on 30Hz autofire :D

Splendid. Thanks for the tips, folks!

Yeah, using your thrusters on the boss would probably be the ideal method for killing him, but you can definitely take him down the boring way within the time limit. That's all I did, earlier. His attacks aren't much cop, so you should be able to hold onto your lives if you just keep your distance. You'll see the missiles and rocks coming a mile off...

(Or does this method cut it too close, most of the time?)

Not sure I understand what's meant by getting inside, it doesn't seem like there's room inside the ring for your giant hitbox. Are you supposed to just take hits and level down and kill him with the boost before you get killed?

Couldn't sort out this bonus, I assumed it was for destroying the parts before they come together but I could never do enough damage for that. Never got a bonus for killing it from the inside, just got hit a bunch.

What's the deal with the powerups becoming bombs? Do they give the same score as shooting everything or should they be avoided?

As far as I can tell, they give the same score. Kinda handy for the waves of popcorn that just come straight down from the top of the screen.

Also, it's possible to mash the thrusters fast enough that you don't lose any lives on the final boss. You can also set up an autofire for your thruster to do it too.

Also #2, for the people who don't know, you can switch it to 5minute mode and then wait and it'll play a 2.79m 'superplay' video, which shows you all of the bonuses you can get as well as a good few scoring tricks. (maybe this should go in the discussion thread in shmups chat)

@Deca: there's plenty of space, just make sure you tap to the right as it moves and mash thruster.

Yes, you literally sit on top of him and take hits.

I've always gotten the bonus. Dunno why you're not. Maybe watch the default replay and see what differs between how you're doing it and how they do it.

Good question. I think it's the same score as shooting, but I'm not sure.

I don't think I got a single one. It's more important to get through the sets of enemies as fast as possible.

Can someone link me to an actual downloadable emulator for this?

The link in the other thread brings me to Zophar's domain, which looks to be a super resource: i've since downloaded 8 new toolbars and seen 3,200 ads for Edy's fruit bars and Pizza Hut. However, I still don't have anything that runs shooting games.

Help?

Dude, AdBlock Plus - for better hallway vision.

And there is a link on Zophar's to the author's homepages for any emulators there. I always prefer to go to the author's pages to make sure and get the latest version.

http://www.geocities.jp/winx68khighspeed/

The 5th link (says "English Version" underneath).

You'll also need the BIOS images for the x68k and an image of Super Derp Shooter, which we probably can't link to.

Now to navigate the keyboard / joystick, but that I "should" be able to figure out.
