The new PC content is coming to consoles as DLC this winter, $15.
Sweet.

Not happy with Namco Bandai though, they STILL haven't released any updates or patches for Armored Core V that the japanese got like 5 months ago..

I promised to myself I'd only start playing/possibly buying DLC for the game once it gets updates but I guess they don't want customers  awesome game but it needs the rebalancing FROM has already made to be fun for me again.

It's stating that a headset will be required for multiplayer...most likely that means no typing. So probably a cheap port with Games for Windows Live, instead of Steam Works. Oh well, I have GFWL installed so it'll be no big deal, but still...

I`ll definitely be grabbing all the DLC for the PS3 version. As for the PC version, since I`m only interested in playing it offline, I think I`ll just torrent it. Hackers will take care of the GFWL bullshit.

So, anyone care to help me out? I freely admit, this game kicked my arse last time and I gave up at the Capra Demon. Managed to get to the top of the stairs and almost killed it on first attempt, the 20 after that it one-hit me as soon as I entered the room.

But it's undeniably a fucking brilliant game so I'm going to have another go, and any advice that you can give regarding a decent start-up build would be appreciated.

Maybe level up a bit in the Darkroot Forest? Buy the key to the place for 20,000 Souls from the blacksmith and farm the forest covenant NPCs there. You`ll have a sick amount of souls in no time. Will make Capra Demon and his puppies a walk in the park.

Capra demon is a very popular roadblock in the game, I'm sure you can find good strategies earlier in this thread or by googling.

Can't remember from the top of my head but grinding certainly shouldn't be necessary. The main problem is that the space is really claustrophobic and you need to take out the dogs first. the boss itself has a very predictable pattern as they tend to (capra demons end up being a common enemy in a certain area even).

Those are Lesser Capra Demons, weaker and smaller than Capra Demon proper.

Well I'm back up to where I gave up last time, Capra Demon. I'm level 27 or so this time though, the patch certainly makes things a lot easier/less frustrating depending on your point of view. Hopefully I'll take it down without too much hassle this time.

fine:

Discuss: What kind of character are you going to create? Looking forward to PvP? What are your expectations of the whole PC-release?

also, let's share our lovely GFWL-nicknames shall we?

I already own the PS3-version, but I still pre-ordered the PC-version immideatly when I saw it on steam.

Installed, in PC creation finally.

Spent a good hour dicking around with fucking Live. Checked versions, was up to date. Kept failing to connect in-game (I had previously seen a "problem with your account, resolve it" message in Live but was able to fix it). Uninstalled Live and its obsolete Marketplace. Still no go. Deleted the old profile credentials and put them in again - still no joy. Will have to call the dickbags at Microsoft over this one.

Anyway, I gave up on that and now I'm in the menu. Yes, there's barely a hint of there being a lower resolution, but jaggies aren't really visible on the 3D model from looking at the very nice character options. I'll actually go with a female PC this time. Contrary to my worries, it actually looks very nice in the menus and so on thus far - resolution is not usually a bit issue for me and in this game it's less of a problem. The menus themselves are nothing to write home about - when you launch without Live, and every time you try to use Live to login and fail, it'll pop up the same fucking notifications about not being able to play online, as if I needed to be reminded over and over. I can't really fault them for not having a "get rid of this message, Microsoft is going to be shit forever" tooltip on this message, though, because I don't suppose everybody has this kind of error with their Live account.

I first tried using the PC binds (selection is clumsy, and the Home + Backspace buttons cannot be bound) but as I went through the list I realized that attempting to play with them would be nightmarish. I took that as a cue to finally unwrap the Razer Onza TE and now I've got something that works. There isn't direct access to controller bindings but I think I might have seen a screen while entering a character. In any case it should work fine.

I notice that there is an option for motion blur - I will have to experiment with it on and off to see if removing that helps with the reported performance issues.

I also have to report that even the experience of being in the character creation menu and looking at that purty model and reading the descriptions like "guilt-ridden thief" and "a masculine hairstyle" have me giggling uncontrollably (well, I don't giggle, but it's at least analogous to it...)

Update: Man, this combat system is going to take some time to get used to. The game would not look better with higher resolution, really.

A user on NeoGAF (Durante) is working on fixing some of the problems in the PC version: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488240

He's already fixed the internal rendering resolution, but there are still a few problems with it (eg. the depth of field effect is still running at low res, but he says he can fix that too). I'm not sure how GFWL handles mods though. I hope they don't identify it as a cheat and ban you or something.

Lmao: He took one week to set up an "interception DLL" and the actual resolution fix took only three minutes with the game. buh-what. I think what's of more importance here is the framerate unlock, potentially.

Not gonna mess with this for now; the game works fine as-is, and I don't want to see how low-rez the textures are. It will be interesting to see if FROM ends up adopting this or just decides to ignore it.

Make sure you turn off AA when using the resolution fix.

They finally nerfed the darkwood grain ring.

"Weakness: Beanpole"

Edit #2: I was wrong, the game looks MUCH better with the rez patch. I think I'll get it since LIVE play isn't an option right now anyway.

See: before and after.

Edit #3: Just a firewall issue, that's all. Another possible cause of the network-caused failed login message is having your PC time out of sync with 'net time.

Caved and bought this from GMG yesterday. Been playing for six hours. Man, this game is one hell of a merciless son of a bitch.

The resolution fix also showed that, instead of low res textures, it seems there was an actual beauty hidden behind that monstrous blur. Someone already told me "congratulations on getting the best motherfucking game this generation". Hopefully he's right. Well, maybe I found that a bit exaggerated considering this is essentially a shitport but, well, at least it's a shitport that works and, thank god they didn't slam SecuROM in it. I guess GFWL is enough overkill. So, yeah, the game works, my 360 pad works with it so all is good.

Anyway, I'm past that bloody Taurus Demon thing and made the stupid mistake of climbing the stairs of a tower that led to a horned knight of sorts. He fucking tore me a new one in one hit, wtf. It's like that other fucker knight who is giving you the back down a set of stairs and if you touch him you are toast, lol. Loving the game so far despite how hard it is. Pity I wasn't really prepared to die like this. Or to frequently watch the ghosts of other people getting brutally owned as well, heh.

Yeah, even PS2 and Wii games look much better in HD, so it's nice to finally be able to see all of the detail they put into the textures. The game is gorgeous in high res.

Bah, I saw a Fiddler Crab vagrant alongside the Tower Knight in the Undead Parish church, and since I was scared and didn't know what it was, I didn't take them on. Probably just as well because I didn't have even the halberd then. Tower Knight is a joke with the halberd. Still scared of black knights.

Edit: Found it again. Only 1 humanity in it. Still, can't complain!

Durante just fixed the low res depth of field issue with his latest release: http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?p=114

I think that's it for all of the major problems with this port. Getting rid of the 30 fps cap would be amazing as well, but who knows what problems that could cause if the game logic is tied to the framerate or something.

Anyway, now I'll really start putting some time into this. Can't wait to check out the new content.

4 new bosses in the new content. One of them is sort of a secret boss that drops a cool ring. There's 4 new armor sets and a bunch of new weapons and spells too.

I noticed some small changes and fixes here and there and it seems there's been quite a balance adjustments. I wish there was a changelog.

I also suggest playing the PC version with a gamepad if you have one. The mouse/keyboard controls seem pretty bad.

Cool, maybe a magic build will feel more interesting this time.

Dumb question--is upgrading bows along elemental paths possible? Is it useful?

Yes.. if I remember right some people made lightning variants of crossbows so the damage stacks with the lightning bolts. But for bows there is at least one useful example: if you level up the bow of pharis through the magic route, it actually gains S scaling for intelligence (meaning enchanted path is useless) and does good magic damage with darkmoon arrows. no idea if it's worth making a fire bow with fire arrows, I'd imagine it would be weak

edit: wait what, 30fps speed cap for pc? that sucks

I found the magic route rather boring. I made a str, fai and mag build, and the mag build to me was the least interesting. Will probably do a dex build when the dlc shows up.
