"Who Killed Amanda Palmer?" by Amanda Palmer.

Fun fact: She's married to Neil Gaiman. What a lucky fuck!

I can't wrap my head around the XX being that high. Sorry if any of you like that album and maybe you have good reasons, but it just seems like music that writes itself and exists to sell cars and Apple products. It's so simple and languidly put across that it just slips right past my ears and I don't take a single thing from it. I really don't like that trend in modern music.

Anyways, countless other reasons to loathe that list too, take a look.

Dude, you're not smoking anything. The XX is boring as hell. Sometimes hipsters will blatantly pretend to like something that they genuinely couldn't care less about, simply because their credibility with other hipsters takes full priority over honesty and acknowledgement of one's taste.

But in the event that someone does genuinely love that band, I can only feel bad for them and thank the stars that I have better taste than that.

As for Pitchfork, any top whatever list that places radio head at the top and is not titled "Most Sleep Inducing Stinkers" or any variation thereof, is not a list to be read and taken seriously in my opinion.

Let's be honest here, PF is not too different from the games press, in that they praise something to high heavens (St. Vincent/Annie Clark for the past 3 years or so), then when it comes to reviewing it or ranking it with other stuff, it's suddenly irrelevant. Because, you know, we can't have readers knowing that their love for Radiohead was mostly feigned.

I like Radiohead but I still think it's BS they have that much presence in the top 20. I wish I could give everyone who voted a copy of "Guns" by Cardiacs. That was near the top of my list and I had to write it in too. Yes, I voted, I'm probably near the middle of the hipster relativity matrix.

I like Radiohead, but I can understand people's hatred and dislike of their music. It is a bit too annoyingly self-aware and, dare I say, pretentious in their sound. I have all the albums up to Hail To The Thief, though, and a buncha singles 8)

The Wire -- Pink Flag (1977)

On the list of albums you must know and respect (if not love) if you are ever to be considered a cool or worthwhile human being. Yeah, it's fucking great and immediately draws the line between British punk and everything else (and made me hate almost all the rest of punk...damn!) Here's the whole goddamn album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZaQiOOPFnc

Oh yeah, the follow up which is better IMO, though leaps immediately into post punk, can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtW_TPMKPpQ

Years Past Matter by Krallice and Faustian Echoes by Agalloch. Really nice atmospheric black metal, definitely recommended if you like this kind of thing.

Listening to some Rival Schools, love the first LP.

Also some Sinnergod, kind of pop metal but not the cringeworthy sort. They're playing in Manchester tomorrow with Blaze Bayley, some of their stuff, some of his and some Maiden. Should be fun.

Extra Life - Made Flesh (don't read anything about it, just listen to it).
Divine - The Story So Far (not a single weak track on this one).
Alan Stivell - Renaissance of the Celtic Harp (pretty self-explanatory).
DOES - SUBTERRANEAN ROMANCE (it's that time of year again).
The rear gate is closed down
The way out is cut off

I'll second this. Years Past Matter is fantastic. I hadn't heard Diotima yet so I've been listening to a lot of Krallice lately. Sheer madness. They never let up for more than a moment, and there's so much going on in such a crowded space.

Current favourites? All the classics I hadn't heard...

Melodic death metal:
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
In Flames - The Jester Race
Dark Tranquility - The Gallery
Bolt Thrower - ...For Victory
Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God

Entombed - Left Hand Path - Death metal
Dismember - Like An Ever Flowing Stream - Death metal
Gorguts - Obscura - Tech-death

And then some newer things...

Immolation - Harnessing Ruin - Death metal
Spawn of Possession - Incurso - Tech-death
Xenocide - Galactic Oppression - Intergalactic tech-death
Decrepit Birth - Polarity - Intergalactic tech-death
Norrin Radd - Anomaly - Intergalactic tech-death chiptunes (seriously)
High On Fire - De Vermis Mysteriis - Stoner metal
Ihsahn - Eremita - Progressive black metal / Blackjazz

And the shame feeds the anger feeds the shame feeds the anger feeds the shaaame.

Oh and also everything by Bloodbath.

Wow why didn't I ever look in this thread before? I had no idea you people actually have good taste in music. Most gaming boards I've been to people only talk about game/anime OST's and J-pop/J-rock.

Anyway lately it's all been about:

3 - Dark Days Coming(seasonal favorite, finds it's way back into the rotation every summer)
Bogdan Raczynski - Samurai Math Beats
Dub Sex - Splintered Faith
Fela Kuti - Zombie
Flowchart - Wishworm Tracks
Jeff Beck - Truth
James Yorkston - Year of the Leopard
Rhythm & Sound - The Versions
R.L. Burnside - A Ass Pocket of Whiskey
Thelonious Monster - Next Saturday Afternoon

K2 - Funeral Songs

This guy's been making noise for ages but I never listened to him before.
Why do I like this album? Because I flinched as soon as I hit play and it only got worse.

That's Tago Mago :)

I don't own any Bud Powell, but what I've heard off Youtube I need to fix this quickly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYd6ftWE ... re=related

Let's be honest, Tago Mago would be even more awesome than it already is if it were named Tango Mango.

Van der Graaf Generator - Still Life

I still find the second half of this album a little boring, but the first half is pure brilliance through and through.

I don't know if there's a single VDGG album I consider 100% solid. Strangely, World Record might be the closest, but it isn't my favorite. 'Least We Can Do...' is pretty damn close, and I feel a lot more attached to that album. Still isn't perfect though.

The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation - Succubus - Ambient jazz influenced improv drone.
Whores - Ruiner - Really awesome noise rock. Giant, disgusting riffs.
Fight Amp - Birth Control
Sabbath Assembly - Ye Are Gods - Still don't know what to think of this one. I definitely don't like it as much as the first.
Feedback will set you free.

Best stuff lately:

Nah und Fern by Gas. Ambient Techno. Can't decide if it's chill or tense, but I was absolutely captivated.
Radio Roadmovies by Christian Calon and Chantal Dumas. Highly resonating musique concrète.
Rocket Shrine by C.C.C.C. Harsh Noise.
In Memoriam, Ill Omen by Pestilential Shadows. Straight up Black Metal that does everything right.
War War War by Papaya Paranoia. Super awesome Quirk-pop with some post-punk and prog undertones.

Pawn Hearts is definitely their most solid imo.

I sent you a shout on last.fm, but maybe you're not very active there? Anyway, I really enjoyed the one album I've heard by Zelda (Carnaval.)

Are any of their other ones as good?
