Attention, all roguelike fans...
... JADE is out.
And just before Ruldra dies of high blood pressure - this is just a preview version that is nowhere close to the finished game. This is the first release, after all - so except assloads of bugs.
Still, it is out. And it only took slightly longer than RefleX.
(Tested it on my PC and it runs without problem. Have no time for play right now, but I will be back in a few hours.)

Re: Attention, all roguelike fans...
Played for a while. Seems like there is only one type of dungeon, and lots of things are still waiting for implemention. I hope you didn't except too much.
Gonna have lunch now.

It's about "realizing their actuality." And judging by the look on Jane's face, she's realized it a couple of times already.
Re: Attention, all roguelike fans...
Thanks for the heads up.
It's brutal work getting anything substantial done, even something unfettered by art + a time based game loop.

Re: Attention, all roguelike fans...
Not much to see just yet. Let me know when 0.2.0 comes out; I'll be over at nethack.alt.org.
Re: Attention, all roguelike fans...
Sure? It says "Java" right in the top title, meaning it should work for a ton of platforms.JJXB wrote:>PC only

psp has no official java support and only unofficial is javaME through pspkvmSumez wrote:Sure? It says "Java" right in the top title, meaning it should work for a ton of platforms.JJXB wrote:>PC only

Still doesn't make it PC only
There are tons of mobile devices with Java.

Yep. Looks like a very early build of ADOM.Necronopticous wrote:Not much to see just yet.

Here it is.Necronopticous wrote:Let me know when 0.2.0 comes out
I don't think it's actually possible to detect secret doors in this version, but a pickaxe should solve the problem. This game is currently extremely lethal (possibly moreso than ADOM) due to the lack of tactical options, but it is playable and (kinda) enjoyable now.
Re: Attention, all roguelike fans...
Wasn't sure which of the roguelike threads to resurrect, but this seems more related to the subject at hand.
Thomas Biskup has started a crowdfunding campaign to overhaul the original ADOM (that's right, not ADOM II/JADE), updating it with proper native platform builds, some of the modern roguelike interface elements, fixing bugs and loopholes, etc. Full text here:
http://www.indiegogo.com/resurrect-adom-development
Biskup needs to reach $48k to fund the development—the game itself will remain free upon release. There will be another programmer, a graphics artist, and a composer/sound engineer in his team, so it's not all for himself. I'm chipping in, so I figured maybe some of the hardcore bunch here would be interested as well. ADOM has provided me with hundreds of hours of exciting gameplay for free, it's about time I gave something back. Maybe version 1.2.0 will do away with some of the worst scumming techniques as well, which will definitely be a huge plus to an already great game.
In other news, ADOM II is currently at 0.2.7, and is allegedly very playable at this point, although lacking in many features of the original. Since I don't have much time for playing long games, and I very much dislike Java Web Start, I'm kind of waiting it out until the next major release which is due in July. It will have a proper offline installer, ranged weapon combat, and various UI enhancements, among other things.

So JADE is now ADOM II....
And he's going with a vertical HUD? ...Does he know that we write left to right in the Germanic languages?

It does make sense on widescreen monitors; I actually prefer it that way. Surely it didn't both you in Heroes of Might & Magic, for instance? In-game info and messages are still horizontal, as expected.

Re: Attention, all roguelike fans...
Just saiyan it's always been the wrong way to go, from even the Gold Box days and earlier. The worst offender I've seen actually had a chat pane oriented this way.
I can give Angband a pass since it gives it a folksy feeling of being developed before color TV was invented.

I feel kind of bad for the ForgottenWorld devs. Mices were invented. "ForgottenWorld" isn't a good name! C'mon guys..

Re: Attention, all roguelike fans...
Some news: the ADOM resurrection campaign has raised 51148$ by the time of posting, so 1.2.0 will now definitely be released and there are some nice stretch goals yet to consider. Time to rejoice and throw some more money onto this. :P
Some things that will be added to the game as a result of power pledge drives and reaching stretch goals:
— about 40 new artifacts (jesus...);
— a new boss area;
— integrated tile support engine (NotEye);
— 29 or so new non-artifact items and some new monsters;
— 12 new corruptions.
An inhouse-developed tileset reached at 55000$ will be reused for ADOM II, so it'd be a nice thing to have and definitely welcome for beginners and those not hardcore enough for ASCII graphics. :P
Hoping for an Android port somewhere down the line...

Re: Attention, all roguelike fans...
Holy balls. A new version of ADOM has already been released: 1.20 pre1. Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend (sorry, STGT...)
