Planning on getting a sony pvm monitor
I eventually plan to buy a sony pvm monitor online to play my saturn shooters in tate mode, what would be some great models to consider?
Re: Planning on getting a sony pvm monitor
I use the pvm-20m2mdu and I love it. it has bnc inputs for RGB and sync. also has s-video and composite inputs.

Hpw long have you had it?I have seen one that's still brand new unopened in original box but i can't buy any monitor right now.
Re: Planning on getting a sony pvm monitor
I've had it for about a year now. I bought it used. buying used pvms online can be a crapshoot since you don't really know how heavily they were used plus you also have to hope the seller isn't a complete idiot when it comes to making sure they are packaged well for shipping.

What systems do you use for it and how are they hooked up? I would be using my saturn through s-video.
Re: Planning on getting a sony pvm monitor
genesis, snes, duo-r, saturn, ps1 and 2 all via rgb scart. I run the scart cables into this thing:

which outputs bnc to the pvm.

Would the monitor still just take straight s-video or will something like that be needed?
Re: Planning on getting a sony pvm monitor
It'll take s-video. But I highly suggest stepping up to rgb if you're able.
Re: Planning on getting a sony pvm monitor
loved 2950Q [15khz version ... QM = 31Khz] . But it was big, hence why I gave away when I moved once upon a time ago. Whereas I would have just kept anything 21 or even perhaps 25".
Since then I've happily had consumer trintrons [euro scart].
Presume you're usa, but if you're euro; any decent sony trinitron with scart rgb around would be an easier alternative. Some are going to have more wear and tear, but you'll probably get them for very little, and you could easily afford to try a few out...
As kind of mentioned; the best thing to do is to cut down the risks - get it local if possible, see the condition, and cut out shipping complications [which can of course occur with anything, even well packed]. When looking at condition be aware you can probably sort regular geometry issues and small color balances easily. Irregular issues with the display or burn in to the screen are obviously bigger problems.
The single worst problem you can have is ending up paying an amount that you will regret for something which you think has a shit picture but that someone thought was decent for an old crt; and then there's a stand off on returns etc. So just try to avoid that little pitfall.

I would also recommend buying consumer CRT with scart. It's easy to connect your consoles and it's very cheap and sometimes free to get previously high end sets. In the course of the last week and a half I picked up two B&O MX8000 for free 30 minuttes from my house. Super picture and sound.
If you don't live in Europe it's another deal though..

no, both Q and QM are 15khz, as long it's a PVM. You might have looked at a PGM-2950 instead, which is 31khz.loved 2950Q [15khz version ... QM = 31Khz]

Re: Planning on getting a sony pvm monitor
I'm trying a longshot here. My employer used to have a shitload of PVMs, but as there were quite some technical changes in the firm, those old crts aren't in use anymore.
I just out-of-the-blue emailed the technical departement whether they got some spare unused pvms...
Now, is there something like a list of the different pvm models with information on the connections etc., so I can better chose the best model for my (hopefully coming) supergun?
I know for sure that there were some 25" or larger models floating around (I've watched several instructional videos on them...), and I remember reading "PVM" on the backside of one tv, but I have no clue what model that has really been.
Hope to hear soon from the tech-guys amd certainly will get back here when I have more info.

I own a PVM-2530. It's a quite good monitor, though you'll need a proper adapter to be able to connect RGB to it, I bought this one: http://www.retrogamingcables.com/sony-p ... erter.html
