STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
Sorry about the late post. Direct your discussion here please.
I got to try this on cabinet just recently, best part about playing the PCB is getting screen glitches during big bullet cash-in's. For some reason I love that.

Glad I'm not the only one who's misread it like that

Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
actually, that might be a hyphen after the word "fart-"
in any case, who knows what japanese-to-english they use at Cave, and most importantly where can I get one?

I hate to admit this isn't as bad as I thought it would be. TiH, you can shun me now.

Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
I wonder if this game will climb on this years best lists because of this.

Not likely. Any game attracts a lot of hatred simply by virtue of being in STGT regardless of quality. I still don't understand how anyone could outright hate S99 or Salamander 2 :V

I never got Garegga until I played it in STGT. Now it's in my top 5.RNGmaster wrote:Not likely. Any game attracts a lot of hatred simply by virtue of being in STGT regardless of quality. I still don't understand how anyone could outright hate S99 or Salamander 2 :V

I expected to hate Salamander 2 by virtue of its -IUSity but was pleasantly surprised. I can't say I'm chomping at the bit to go for the 2-ALL after STGT though. S99 made me happy, but I can understand why a less experienced or newer player would have trouble getting into Psikyo games, it took me a while to start appreciating them myself.

Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
I liked Salamander 2, just not so much for score. I am definitely enjoying Galuda more than I thought I would. It may even be giving V-V competition for my favorite this year.
Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
Oh man, that final pattern is fun. The music and bullet count are really intimidating, but it's entirely static with two variants. The thing is you have to be really damn precise and have a good eye to make it.
Cave's best final attack for sure.
Re: STGT destroying my interest in certain games: I might gain a fair amount of appreciation for a game after playing it in STGT, and I understand how a game would suddenly click with you after you immerse yourself in it, but I likely won't enjoy playing it during STGT that much just because the format of grinding a game for one week to the exclusion of all else is pretty damn frustrating. Like I absolutely LOVE Ketsui, but admittedly I would hate playing it in STGT. SOTM would be a much better fit.

I used to play this game all the time when I would get burned out on DOJ. I'm having fun revisiting it. The scoring is what kills you though, not the bullets. Well, except for the last boss. Don't think I ever managed to clear the game.

Mystic Square says helloRNGmaster wrote:Not likely. Any game attracts a lot of hatred simply by virtue of being in STGT regardless of quality.

actually, MS says "hello, my presence in the 5th week is the reason why this is the best STGT of all STGTs! Needless to say, I have Mima."

Doujin Week (don't worry, they play cross-platform): Cho Ren Sha; Mystic Square; Super Star Shooter.

Cool cheers. I assume they are all freeware? I think I still have cho Ren Sha somewhere

Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
Pretty sure mystic square isn't, even if its impossible to buy without spending a shitload.AmidstStorm wrote:Cool cheers. I assume they are all freeware? I think I still have cho Ren Sha somewhere

Ahaha, what, you're supposed to suicide on the final attack so you have enough gems to cancel it? That's crazy.
Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
Actually I have to disagree. It was common in medieval Europe (and earlier, probably a Roman / Byzantine / Chinese thing) to erect thick walls around a city, and you could call those walls one "fort."Lord Satori wrote:not really. all they needed to do is add an s at the end

Just as "freeware" as all the other STGT games.AmidstStorm wrote:Cool cheers. I assume they are all freeware?

I don't think anyone with a sensible mind actually expects you to actually buy Mystic Square, or any of the other PC-98 games. but, yeah, technically they are not freeware.

Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
Is Galuda easier than DoDonPachi? I see a lot of clears this week.
Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
I think it's roughly the same as DoDonpachi: maybe slightly easier overall, but the final attack evens things out. It is easy for CAVE though. The only pre-Deathsmiles Cave game I can think of that's easier is Mushihimesama Original...1up wrote:Is Galuda easier than DoDonPachi? I see a lot of clears this week.

Re: STGT '12 Week 4 discussion (ESP Galuda)
Cave week was the week I was looking forward to the least, partly because I don't have a lot of time this week, so I knew whichever game would be chosen, I wouldn't really be getting somewhere. Still, I'm having much more fun with ESPGaluda than I thought I'd have, even though my beginner's scores are far from impressive. I can see how top players could get frustrated by the optimization necessary to get the real high scores in, though.
