At least it has good trains though.
The stage 2 trains don't even have over for the soldiers to shoot from. Now those are shitty trains.

Stage 4's trains make up for it.

I think Espgaluda wins the best trains in STGT award. Strikers 1999 make a strong effort but it's not up to the usual Strikers train level standards. V-V and Salamander 2 were trainless and none of the nominated doujins feature trains to my knowledge.

The STGT drama shitstorm came late this year but it has finally arrived
I believe that no matter what game was chosen this week there would have been bitching and moaning.

Also, I think raiden fighters jet has a pretty awesome train stage

RF2 has the single best train stage in an STG ever. Anyone who disagrees doesn't know what they're talking about.

I don't care what games are picked, it's the spirit of competition and the will to do your best that's important.

I know I won't be top 5, or top 10 for that matter, but it won't stop me from putting in my best effort, and posting a score I can be satisfied with.

IDK, I'm just having fun playing cool stuff that I'd probably not be exposed to otherwise; so thanks, gentlemen.

Also, I say we play Metal Slug for score.

I think it's like this:

Me last week: This STGT is abominable and it will be unredeemed, I are weep
Me last night: 8) I even discovered a couple Cave games I like! Wow! Cool! (etc.)

Edit: Oh, wait! What am I doing here, I must play the STGT game for 8 hours a day before my opinion matters. See ya!
I've played for 1:32:06 so far

(Stage 1/2 optimizations make me do more poorly at the bosses - as usual)

Don't make me come knocking at your knees with a 2x4! Gangstaz stick together and gangstaz certainly know the value of keepin' their problems on the down low. Hope you can get some playtime in this week, it's actually a fun game.

Also RF2 does indeed have the train stage ever. Cyvern doesn't touch it in that area.

Can I have some more drama please?

I get off on that stuff and would thoroughly enjoy some more of "adults fighting about video games". Come on, please. I'd be totally fine if maybe just a single person said he/she would leave this board now.

What? Too late to the party?
Meh, ok. Then I'll just play espgaluda...

Well you know, anyone who'd pick an Esp-anything game over a DoDonPachi game or Ketsui isn't interested in shmups, he's just confused. :P

We should all just play Ketsui Back Label instead.

P-47 and Daioh were the best games of that STGT for me. Maybe I just like bad games.
I love P-47 Aces, probably my favorite shmup in recent memories. I still don't see why people hate that game.

Two hours a day is a lot if you also have to work, if you commute, and have chores to do. This is a hobby after all.
I think only a handful of people can afford to put so much time in playing these games. Yay college student with no job

The time I put the most into these games was after college, but pre-child.

Is this the bitching thread?

This game isn't quite fun, the music is ridiculously annoying, you still need sound on to know when bosses are dying, and trying to apply the scoring mechanics into actual stage sections never goes quite well :|

Still, it`s the first week where people have an actual scoring system to work with, isn't it?

Strikers also had a scoring system. A pretty damn annoying one.

Though, I liked Salamander 2's scoring best so far. Even though I can't get close to killing everything cause I can't control max speed. Sucks that I couldn't figure out the stage 3 milk and never got the stage 4 tech, but I should be able to eventually.

Did it? I'd call it more like a collection of loosely(or not at all) connected bonuses than a system. There were what, points for destroying things, more points for taking medals(not really any medal chaining though), technical bonus and end game bonus for lives, bombs and power ups?
Salamander was more or less on the same collect, destroy, grab bonuses vein, but no end game bonus and everything but the milking sections had minor impact IIRC.

With this one, though, I've seen stage 1 scores anywhere from 500k to 6M, then a quite bigger scoring potential to exploit on stage 2 and so on. (contrary to Salamander, where you could grab the 100k bonus + boss milk for Stage 1 + milk/shoot brain golem on two parts, but had nothing much to do on Stage 2 besides kill crap, collect crap and hit Prominences for some 100 points every 2 seconds)

The Strikers medals gave 200, 500, 1000, 2000 when picked up depending on what position the ywere in.

I'm not sure how many frames you had to pick up a 2,000 medal, but if you kept picking up 2000 medals, you'd get a 200 point bonus for each. It was annoying to me because I'd go touch one of the medals thinking I had hit the frame timing, but being just barely off.

Hm, okay, guess I can't really argue with that.
Still, after coming from one month of Gunbird 2, where medal timing is(feels) stricter and the bonus scales from 500 to 4k(instead of a fixed 200), Strikers 1999 medal system felt not only too easy but a fucking joke too(which didn't stop me from breaking the chain every other medal though  ).

6m on stage 1? I'd be curious to see a video of that, as a non-competitor.
