Pee Wee's Playhouse annoyed me back when it was on the air. At the time I felt that it was too childish; I preferred more mature forms of entertainment, such as GI Joe, Transformers and The Smurfs.

I just thought he was crazy in Pee-Wee's playhouse.

But Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is my FAVORITE movie. That movie fucking rocks.

:D

That was fucking awesome.

Peewee prefers more mature forms of entertainment as well.

Hey, am I the only one who didn't like GI Joe? I mean, it's nostalgic for me now, but when I was 9 years old everybody was running around with retarded GI Joe planes and tanks and I just thought they were ridiculous-looking parodies of much cooler real military vehicles. The cartoon was craptastic...I could never keep track of the plot, the good guys never made any headway, etc. It all just seemed so pointless. GI Joe presented me with an unshakable inability to suspend disbelief or connect with any of the characters.

For whatever reason, I had more of an affinity with Transformers, even though it had many similarities to GI Joe (pointless eternal struggle between good and evil with no real advancement on either side, heavily fantasized variations of real earth vehicles, etc). The toys were way cooler...that probably had something to do with it.

GI JOE was ok, anyone ever checked rambo, it's just like GI but with just one guy.

And Transfomers, well I guess the best US cartoon series ever. Errrr, is it American or Japanese?

I like Aeon Flux as well, but that aired much later.

Transformers has so many types of animation series, unbelievable, I remember a ZX Spectrum game Transformers which didn't suck as much as you'd imagine. You see back then they had enough money to buy a license AND program a game.

As for PEE WEE, he was totally blocked boycottet in Europe, no movies, no nothing and I don't know if that was such a bad thing

I HATED He-man. He-man sucks balls. Even when i was little i knew that that was gay. Why did the bad guy look so much cooler than the good guy?

I also hated GIJoe. "Why do all thier guns fire lasers?" i thought. "Oh, because my idiotic eight year old mind can't handle things like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard." "Yes, a flesh and bone vaporizing beam of concentrated death is soooo much less intense than a tiny chunk of brass." "Hey, look at that - every single exploding jet releases it's pilot in a parachute - i wonder if his head is still attached?"

Then i went and played with my dad's guns.

Ducktales ruled Saturday morning cartoons back then. Why can't they put the series on DVD, for cryin' out loud?

I think my main form of entertainment during the "Peewee Period" was my NES. :) I do however remember Peewee, the Smurfs, Ducktales, etc. Was never a huge fan, but it's cool to look back.

Cartoons in the 80's and early 90's did indeed kick ass.

I liked GI Joe, TMNT, Transformers, and all of the Nintendo cartoon shows (Captain N, Super Mario Bros, and even that cheesy Zelda cartoon).

EDIT: I also thought PeeWee's Playhouse was a little bizarre. Kinda scared me as a child.

Why does everything have to suck so bad today?

Transformers started out in Japan, but was brought over here in 1984. And IMO, it was the best cartoon series ever! Transformers The Movie came out in 1986, and is still my favorite animated movie ever; anyone who loved the series definately needs to get the movie on DVD. There's even a whole fan site dedicated to this film: www.tftm.net

There are two cartoon series that I REALLY wish would be brought out on DVD-Pac Man (before Transformers!) and the Alf Cartoon; IMO better then the "regular" TV series.

As far as Peewee goes, I watched a few episodes of his show, it was pretty zany, but fun nontheless!

Oh, that's funny. I don't think David Byrne looks like Pee Wee at all, but he does act goofy and wear a gray suit....

I bought Pee Wee's Big Adventure on DVD last Christmas for my wife. Awesome movie. Big Top Pee Wee, on the other hand, was just boring. I don't think Tim Burton made it, either.

Yeah, GI Joe was too tame. They did have machine gun noises, but only for the first 5-episode series. (GI Joe originally only came out as a 5-episode series a few times before it became a full-blown regular show with individual episodes.) They'd shoot at each other all episode long but miss, and then puch out the Cobras and they'd be out with one punch. They had to introduce the robot BAT soldiers just so they'd have badguys to shoot. Even when a Cobra Rattler crashes into a cliff side, somehow the pilot manages to still eject. That's why Robotech was so awesome when it came out. Characters actually died.

Both GI Joe and Transformers were both animated in Japan. (I forget which studio, but it's the same studio that did Sailor Moon.) The character designs for both shows were done by Marvel Comics (at least Transformers was), but they were animated in Japan.

Has anyone noticed that there's a new GI Joe cartoon out? Very anime-looking. Non-American character designs for sure, just like Transformers Armada.

Alot of people don't know it but Rob Zombie's first job in entertainment came as the set designer for PeeWee's Playhouse.
