submitting this junk score just in case. hardly put in any time at all so far but planning to change that within the next few days.

Urhghgh. I.... I just can't do it with Horizontal games. Too hard. Too wide. Haven't played since years ago.
It's all excuses, in reality it's just that I suck.

Finally got the brain killing down, around 80% success rate whenever I get at least 2 options before him. This was also my first run where I managed to kill the golden ship in stage 4.

I'd be doing a lot better if I could kill Brain Golem. Not enough time to play this week, though.

Wow. Looped it, but apparently I suck and can't get down any of the techs. Not really into this one, but I know I can do better.

Garegga's got nothing on this game's max rank setting. Getting to 1-5 without losing a life turns the place into a complete shitstorm. Somehow I managed to scrape though it with only one miss, though (well, the rank does go back to zero when you die). Also, I've learned that getting too many speedups is highly hazardous to your health.
In some ways it's easier than in Gradius to recover after death, because your options remain behind and weapon powerups are instantaneous. On the other hand you can't control when speedups are going to appear, and staying at the default blimp speed is even more hazardous than usual because of how fast the stages move.
This was my first run getting to the second loop, and I don't think it's that bad to start with. The suicide bullets are fairly controllable and predictable. It's not like Strikers 1999's second loop that's all "BTW I win" the instant you get there.
I think it's really idiotic that force field item drops are random. How do you "tech?" All my attempts to kill the Stage 1 Brain Golem with aggressive option bombing were in vain.

First, do the trick that gets you two options before the Golem, which was posted earlier in the thread. Then, when you get to the Golem, position yourself so that both options are buried in the middle of the thing (i.e. slide down as it moves forward), and consider autofire for this (I'm told you absolutely don't need it but do it anyway). It also might be helpful to get the Ripple instead of the Laser.Op Intensify wrote:How do you "tech?" All my attempts to kill the Stage 1 Brain Golem with aggressive option bombing were in vain.
