Where to go for custom patching of ISOs?
This is an odd request...but in a hobby where people get NESs to look like toasters, I guess it's not that odd.
I'm looking for someone who can patch a PS2 ISO(Viewtiful Joe) for me. I'm wanting to get the battle voices removed from a game.
I'll pay what you like. Anyone up for it? Anyone know anyone who can do it?

I don't have any specific references, but you might want to look around the "undub" scene, if anyone actually takes credit for those. I don't know if the people who do them have specific forums or something where they gather, but it's definitely a thing.

Hmm...I'll have to look into that.
EDIT: I could use a forum name or something like that, to get me started. Anyone?

I would suggest romhacking.net ... I don't know if they would deal with what you're asking, but they'd probably be able to point you in the right direction.

And if anyone has a Wind Waker Super Hookshot patch that would really be hot.

It's weird that I'm having such trouble finding someone to do this. People do BIG things to games, for free, but offer to pay someone, and nobody will do anything.
Not the case with Hardware mods though.
Are there tools or whatever to hack into roms and isos? I know that you can use ISO Buster to pull all the contents off of a PS2 DVD, but then what tool would you use then to hack the sound?
Hrmmm....

IIRC, the usual way to do this sort of thing with filesystem-based games used to be to create a zero-length (or one sample/chunk of silence, one black frame of video, one transparent texture/frame, etc.) media file in the same format, then rebuild the filesystem, replacing the relevant files with the "blank" one. However, that's something I saw done years ago and there might be better methods for particular systems/libraries these days. It also requires game-specific or middleware-specific tools if the game uses a custom filesystem.

It's because it's not as simple as it may appear. Despite format similarities the construction of many games of this era are quite unique. You're probably looking to identify, isolate and replace(?) a specific list of audio samples which may well be embedded, split across other library collections, cued in a larger combined file, compressed/encoded in a certain manner, maybe even encrypted...evil_ash_xero wrote:It's weird that I'm having such trouble finding someone to do this. If these are authored in any propriety manner even identifying 'audio' may be difficult, let alone 'unpacking' it.
You've probably then got a list of references referred to by a code rather than any name string, so isolating a specific selection could be a case of trial and error...
On the other hand maybe you'll be lucky and find something like a battle voices folder.
The problem is it's a bit of a minefield unless you've looked into this specific game before - so volunteers probably aren't jumping at the chance

As far as ps2 audio I believe mfaudio is a program often used to extract or edit audio, typically for the naughty purposes of reducing iso sizes for copying as far as I can tell - but it sounds like something like this may be what you're after in order to customize a game? Although I imagine this is typically tailored to longer 'music' files...? ...

MUTE works(with a little music playing in the background).
But I would really like to patch a few games.
Well, if anyone here can look into it, I'd appreciate it. And I would pay. MONEY folks.
Yeah, I've had NO luck, at all. Anything I've had done for me(like making Virtual Console game injections, getting JP VC games) has almost always been done for free. I've actually been turned down paying for something.
Maybe hackers and modders are above cash?
NAH!
