Shikigami no Shiro - Fan Translation Open Beta!

Post by cj iwakura »

Yep, you heard me right.

Image

All the endings and story dialogue is done. The gallery and errata's gonna take a little time.

So I want to share what we have done.

It's time.

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?q3l1mekyopodt87

You need Shikigami no Shiro EX installed on your computer to run the patch.

I have included everything you need beyond that.
Replace the appropriate files, and enjoy. (We'll work out a proper patch installer before long.)

Of course, this is a beta, so this isn't quite finished. We expect feedback(and/or hatemail).

Read the translation guide if you have questions, I spent like an hour of it.
(Read all of it, I think you'll like what awaits at the end.)

Thanks shmups board, this wouldn't be possible without the supporting passion.

It's been worth every minute of effort.

Anytime.

Has anyone tested it yet? I'm almost positive it's golden, but I'd feel comfortable if someone confirmed it.

That offer for webspace is still open by the way, so long as the game itself isn't available for download. Can be your own domain name (you'd have to register it yourself though) or an akaisora.org subdomain.

I never did manage to track down a copy of the game =/ Wonder if rancor or Gaijinpunch can help...

I'll be back in Tokyo on the 24th and can start tracking down copies of the game. I'll do it "at cost" for Starcreator - I'm his biggest fan since he helps me with all of my video problems.

Maybe I overestimated the availability of this game.

Ah well.

If all else fails, pirated downloads are easy to find, though I certainly wouldn't encourage that.

wow, its okay to talk about that here? at the forums I used to be at, you'd be banned just for saying that!

anyway, although I never played this game, Its still awesome to see translations being done. after all, its nice to understand a game you're playing, isn't it?

that's a matter of perception. it depends if one follows what i actually said. or just assume an ulterior motive based on the above post.

For what it's worth, if you do manage to find a copy of EX in the wild, I don't expect it'd be costly.

Also, I'd envy you.

It would be a pretty shitty forum that would ban people just for acknowledging that pirated games exist. It's only when you actually provide links to them that it should be a problem.

You know what? Shiki 2 and 3 have legendary voice work(if for wildly different reasons), why not do the same thing here?

We'll be adding voice work into the final version.

I'll have to look at my options for recording voice in my home, as I feel compelled to give these voices a try. I'll tweet a link on my twitter later when I get home, as I know I have a few followers who aspire to VA or are Voice actors. Can't wait to try this beta too!

Can you extend the voice work deadline? I know I said I would try to spread the word around, but ironically enough, this week was brutal in terms of work and family obligations. @_@

I'm also spreading it to the Phantasy Star Portable crowd since Sayo makes a cameo appearance in the 2nd game in the series and it's a character most would recognize and hopefully feel compelled to contribute to!

Not to mention I didn't get a change to record anything myself. If it's a strict deadline though, I understand and no hard feelings and cant wait for the final version! :)

I really don't want to slight Iwakura's amazing work on this, but I'm not interested in hearing random internet dudes' nerd voices in this game. The series has already had two disastrous official run-ins with amateur voice actors.

That's not to assume the voice actors are bad or anything, though. Even with official anime dubs or localized RPGs that have really high-quality english VAs, some people prefer subtitles + the original japanese voices left in (as is the case with some UnDubbed RPG games where the original voices are hacked back into an english release). Might be best to release it with the option to use either the original voices or the newly recorded english voices?

Shiki III used professionals, and good ones if I do say so.

That said, you best believe I have high standards, and I have gotten some solid auditions so far.

If you don't like them, you'll be under no obligation to use them.

Closed auditions today. I particularly love the Fumiko, Fujishima, and Gennojo I found.

I hope to share some samples soon!

(Again, uh, has anyone here tried the game yet?)

Not half-bad I'd say, though some of the quieter lines are a bit tough to hear (to be fair I thought the same of the original voices). Out of curiosity, are you going to apply some sort of weird/creepy voice filter to the bosses' lines, as the original game did?

I'd love to. Any recommendations for a program to do it?

'Fraid I've got zero expertise on this one...though it would be funny to give them a Hatsune Miku-esque auto-tune, heh.

Adobe Audition/Cool Edit Pro probably has enough filters to do the job, but I'd have to hear the original effect to deduce how they did it. (I can't say I'm really an expert on this subject either, so if someone else pipes up they probably could do a better job than I.)
