E.X. Troopers (J) by CAPCOM: A Possible Reason to Get a 3DS?

It's also being made for PS3, but I think the thread title is more significant with emphasis on the 3DS (Because let's face it, all the games I've tested on the display handheld at GameShit are insufferably boring rehashes of the same games Nintendo has been crapping out of its corporate anus for years. ANYTHING remotely exciting announced for it is reason for celebration.).
But no matter. This one has promise for them to do something neat with that jet pack. My only concern is that the enemies in the trailer seem to be as passive as a gunshot-wounded Pomeranian puppy with AIDS. Fuck.
But can I get an a-men on that fucking cell shading??! Holy crap! This is the kinda game I hoped people would make in the future when I was a kid playing my Genesis- a playable action anime show. I gotta admit, guys. I'm pretty pumped about this one. There seems to be some enemy-to-air launching/juggling, too. This could very well be what gamers with Japanese tastes have been waiting for since Bayonetta.
Thoughts?

Well, Nintendo of America announced that the 3DS-XL variant handheld will finally go on sale in the USA on August 19th, 2012 for a mere $199.99 USD. Should be great to play with this upcomnig 3DS port of E.X. Troopers release then.
Makes me wonder what color schemes will be available from the get-go in regards to the new 3DS-XL hardware. Of course, with the Japanese 3DS-LL variant handhelds already out now to the tune of JPN 18,000 yen, the color choice are listed as follows: red, white and silver colored schemes to choose from.
I'd be down for an all black colored 3DS-XL variant if it is released. Nintendo still hasn't released a black colored DSi-XL (nor a black DSi-LL) yet despite all the other different colored choices available at retail.

I didn't even know about that. Cool. Except it's region locked in every variant of the handheld, much like the original 3DS.

Getting too old...correction, gotten too old for this shit. More than one killer app per system, please. I'm still fleshing out my Xbox collection, so unfortunately they have to compete with the very lastgen stuff, too. (And arguably 360 is now last-gen, too, considering I bagged a three-year-old one for $10.)Siren2011 wrote:action anime show.
Still, I'll see the game on its merits. Waiting for a Steam / PC port, I guess. Maybe 360.

Bah, I hope this comes stateside. It really does look cool.
I only have one 3DS game [well, one physical one, I've downloaded quite a bit from the eShop], Tales of the Abyss 3D, and I only got it over the PS2 version because it's portable.

Yeah, I still haven't got one for that very reason. I hope someone skilled will eventually crack the region lock so I can buy one.Siren2011 wrote:Except it's region locked in every variant of the handheld, much like the original 3DS.
It's a bit surprising that 3DS still isn't hacked; Nintendo seems to have done a good job this time.

According to Gamestop, they're accepting pre-orders for the USA region 3DS-XL variant out on August 19th later this month. The USA 3DS-XL debut models will be in red or blue colors on launch day.

Why would this be a reason to get a 3DS when it's on PS3?
Re: E.X. Troopers (J) by CAPCOM: A Possible Reason to Get a
Nice! Tiny lo-res screen and only one analog stick vs. 1080p and a dualshock controller. Decisions, decisions.Op Intensify wrote:Why would this be a reason to get a 3DS when it's on PS3?

If you want an honest answer, I'm a sucker for the concept of taking a game I love in a compact form with me on a bus, a plane, at a friend's house, etc. (As long as production values are not too compromised through the benefit of gaming on the go. I have a PSX with a built in flip screen, and it actually looks worlds BETTER than on a 20 something inch TV, -polygons and 2D sprites- because the image is compressed and neat, eliminating many of those pesky jagged edges of models or at least rendering them less noticable, which is a fair trade off.) But I acknowledge that this game would undoubtably look and perform better on the PS3.

I was pointing to the PS3's lack of region locking (P4A aside) more than anything else.

Is this actually made by Capcom, or is it outsourced? Because that would be a serious change of pace.

As far as we know, it's actually in-house. Unlike Lost Planet 3.

New anime trailer here: http://www.capcom.co.jp/ext/
While I'm really digging CAPCOM's use of loud colors, the animation (barring in-game footage and robot combat animated sequences) looks...well, kinda trashy. Certainly better to look at than all the pasty-faced, soulless character designs of Trinity Blood, but trashy all the same.

Please God, let there be a fucking selectable difficulty option. The dude was practically sacrificing himself to the player. Uhhgg...this has too much potential to suck.

Even with the boss at the end of the demonstration, tactile maneuvering and strategy with the jet pack to stay alive is not even necessary, even if it's possible to execute such moves, BECAUSE THERE ARE PRACTICALLY NO HARMFUL ATTACKS FOR THE PLAYER TO AVOID.
Still staying hopeful, though. At least until I get my hands on the finished product.

That better just be a tutorial level or something, all I could think of is "nothing is shooting back" the whole video.Siren2011 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... cMWPIGgPME#!

This footage reminded me of a quote from the Old Man Murray review of KISS: Psycho Circus.Siren2011 wrote:http://www.capcom.co.jp/ext/action.html

I imagine a similar conversation between the capcom executives and the award-winning anime artist they hired for this project who came up with mushrooms.Mike Wilson: Please tell me I didn't just pay you a million dollars to think up a spider.
Todd McFarlane: It's a Headless!
Mike Wilson: Oh Christ, I'm outta business.
Todd McFarlane: See there? No head!
Todd McFarlane: I made a clown spider too.
But they're nuclear mushrooms! See how they glow and explode?!!
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Haha, I didn't remember anything about OMM's Psycho Circus review but I knew that's what it had to be on reading the words "headless" and "clown spider."
Dude, Psycho Circus is actually a damn fun Quake-alike. Everybody should at least give it a try. Much, much more fun to play than American McGee's Alice, for instance. Not bad by the standard of games like Ritual Entertainment's Heavy Metal FAKK 2 (lol) either. Some of the levels just made me suffer (I think the final ones were just annoying me, and the final boss was nothing to write home about).
Perhaps one of the best parts of Psycho Circus is that it was formed of ex-Daikatana staffers from Ion Storm, and proved to the world that not only were the developers capable, but that something was wrong with Ion Storm's management that Daikatana wasn't coming out.
Love for the much-maligned Lithtech engine, too.
