Haha, I've gotten used to the automatic spacing and writing notes that make use of the whitespace. To get normal spacing you need to hit Shift+Ret. I did install Notepad++ recently, though. Don't use it much.

The thing is, so much of it is down to transparently buttheaded marketing decisions. You haven't truly lived until you've seen an exchange like this:Ed Oscuro wrote:Speaking of this: "Consumer-grade" NAS-wannabes.
Customer: I tried to move a directory tree to the public share on my GoFlex Home, but only the top level directory contents show up. How do I get the subdirectories to be accessible?
Seagate Rep: This product may not meet your needs. The GoFlex family is designed for basic home use. If you require advanced features, consider upgrading to our BlackArmor NAS family.
That kind of crap didn't directly bother me since I was just going to throw Arch Linux ARM on the thing and go from there; it's got a 1.2 GHz CPU and 128 MB of RAM, for fuck's sake. That's got to be good for something. But I apparently can't even SSH into it to blow away the stock bootloader config without registering on the website first.

Buying used books and finding out that some moron underlined a bunch of "important" sentences; aka, too stupid to remember or write down. "Ooooh, better deface this book because I'm a fucking simpleton." I think I'm going to start digitally editing my favorite movies and putting some sort of blatant indication when an important part comes up. Like the screen flashes bright green and or I put some sort of enhanced aura around important characters.

It depends who and what is annotated on the margins. Some books don't have indexes explaining the background for some of the references. I remember borrowing books from my AP English teacher and she would annotate all kinds of interesting stuff. It sometimes introduced new ideas into stuff I thought was pretty obvious, esp. T.S. Eliot, Vladimir Nabokov, and Mishima Yukiodrauch wrote:Buying used books and finding out that some moron underlined a bunch of "important" sentences; aka, too stupid to remember or write down. Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Annotations on the margins are fine when it's informative on a subject one might need a better understanding of to grasp as a whole. The common dingbat highlighting quotes that were obviously used on a report they didn't want to do is an entirely different story. It was just disappointing to find a nice spine, good front cover book today marred by a bunch of scrawled drivel.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
I do that shit, but I rarely get rid of books. It keeps me entertained when unread as I'm never in comfortable areas to take notes on anything else.
(there are no marks in the books you emailed about)
So I came to San Francisco to spend time with this girl I saw 2 weeks ago. We hung out 3 days straight last time and I dug her. Hence me coming back here. We saw each other on Friday and got dinner and stayed out until 3 in the morning drinking coffee talking about physics, music, the city, and her ex (who I apparently know from a different forum !(◎_◎;)
We picked up coffee this morning and went for a walk in GG park. We stopped at a bench in a dead part of the park and started talking about school and Metallica. There was a break in the conversation so I decided to express my feelings for her and said that if I couldn't see you (her) I wouldn't have come. She seemed awestruck and remained speechless for several moments. She wound up telling me that she's not interested in a relationship at the moment for reasons I won't say. We hung out later tonight and got vegan gelato and went record shopping. Talked some more and she stayed with me at the bus stop. I gave her a hug and we parted ways. I'm not sure when we will see each other again.
Great woman.
tl;dr
Mesh fails to attract twee girl who also likes les rallizes denudes and physics and literature.
I'm happier knowing than not knowing. Unknowns makes me too uneasy and anxious. TurnIng into a sexually repressed neurotic mess.
Also in more pressing matters: this hostel has no fucking hot water. I'm going to smell like a truck driver tomorrow.

Hope it works out with the baber. Same shit happened to me like a year or so ago. I starting seeing a girl, got along with her well, but I didn't have dick with her in common. (What a surprise). Got too anxious and couldn't take the ambiguity. Asked her if we were dating. NEVER SAW HER AGAIN.

Today's personally annoyance is brought to you by overly sensitive, uptight white people who like to speak for other groups. Specifically the people that would be "bragging that they know how the niggers feel cold", to quote Jello Biafra.[*]

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
now back to my neurosis....
I have these strange emotional bonds to a lot of the music I listen to and EVERY FUCKING TIME this shit happens I can't bare the sound of most of it. Yesterday I left my music shuffling on the trek back and it was the most depressing shit in the fucking world.
Seriously did not need to hear Henry's Dress, Low, Red House Painters and Marissa Nadler back to back. Being completely bored of 90% of my music doesn't help.
LONG STORY SHORT I LISTENED TO THIS ALBUM FOR 4 FUCKING HOURS YESTERDAY

The worst thing is, around when the 5th gen iPod came out, Apple had some rather nice headphones, and replaced them with the terrible design that continues to this day, just with a microphone on the cord.emphatic wrote:iPhones' headphones. Bleh sound quality, barely stay in the ear, and stupid expensive. No thanks, Apple.

Seeing loved ones nearly taken in by obvious scams--in this case, the tale of the non-existent rental unit. I'm often naysayed for my "cynicism," but I'm sure they're glad for it now. This one is both annoying and frightening, the former because of the latter.

Seeing those automatic lawn water sprinkler devices going off in the middle of a torrential downpour.
Seriously, they should have some kind of sensor built in to prevent wasting water.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Some sprinkler systems do have automatic sensors in the ground that detect moisture and activate accordingly. However, the biggest use [and waste] of water comes from industrial and agricultural use. For domestic purposes, the biggest users of water are for landscaping followed by toilets
One thing that annoys me about this is that recycling water isn't as big a priority now as it very well damn should be. Treat wastewater and then "inject it" into the ground to create or replace the groundwater.

Or meticulously watering the sidewalk/asphalt (this is usually on larger properties where checking sprinkler operation would be an all-day multi-person project).SuperGrafx wrote:Seeing those automatic lawn water sprinkler devices going off in the middle of a torrential downpour.

Something that annoys me somewhat is seeing sprinklers going off in a drought, as we had recently. Look, your grass ain't gonna die. It's not even gonna do much to protect you from a fire.
I did a good amount of gardening this summer (only watering) and I often watered in the evening. I don't claim it allowed better water retention (the plants need to draw the water through their stems and evaporate it through their leaves) but the spots I went after did quite well. Of course I also was refilling and cleaning birdbaths up to three times a day (I don't view helping keep the wildlife alive and healthy as a water waste).
What is also truly bad is cities selling off the last water in their wells and then having to truck it in a month later at far over 10 times what it sold for (actually happened earlier this year to a little place in the southwest, Texas I think), or dumbasses bombing their lawn with chemicals (in another case this year, guy blamed the packaging because he thought it was weed killer - nope, it killed everything, and he will have to cancel his yearly event for supporting children with disabilities). Mother earth don't need that shit.
Unfortunately, even properties with very small lots do this. Possibly they don't know how to adjust their sprinklers, or think about it.Ex-Cyber wrote:Or meticulously watering the sidewalk/asphalt (this is usually on larger properties where checking sprinkler operation would be an all-day multi-person project).SuperGrafx wrote:Seeing those automatic lawn water sprinkler devices going off in the middle of a torrential downpour.
A factor that can complicate things is dryness. I poured a lot of water over a patch of day lilies this year, and usually the water poured across the flat ground and ended up going to the near edge of the sidewalk (the drainage pattern for many sidewalks ends up favoring many plants up against sidewalks, so in a drought they will be the last ones to remain green. They also probably have more room to expand their roots under the sidewalk).

Chain derailed on my road bike at the top of a crank and my foot slid off. Lost my balance and slid across the fucking sidewalk into some neighbors yard. Landed right on an old mountain biking bruise that hasn't healed all the way. I didn't realize the pain until I laid down here in the park. Fuck, this sucks.
