X-36 makes a huge difference. Although I have managed 700k with the Raptor, it's a huge loss if you get hit with like 4 bombs remaining and that seems to happen a lot in my runs. So not used to the speed bullets. I keep messing up 1-7 for now, only manage to reach it with 3 bombs left and no lives, but I'm hoping to push for the loop clear if not at least get to 1-8.

I've been lucky to get a lot of practise in the past few days since I'm basically on the laptop most of the day in my in-law's apartment chatting or watching the olympics when we're not out running errands (no air conditioning, damn warm in Alberta).

I got fudging soaked on the way home. Within a minute of leaving it downpoured. The whole way home. I had to pour the water outta my shoes and ring out my socks before going in the house.

Good job with the score Roo I think you had the best of all of us. Im probably gonna miss the next game as Im outta town. If I have time before my flight tomorrow Ill try to get a credit or two in.

I posted my crappy score last night. Only had time for 2 runs, 398,100 was the best.

That's ok, V-V is a good choice. I've played a lot of Batsugun (so has everyone), so it's good that something else got picked.

Should be getting some time in with it tonight and I'll see what's going on there. I've played it a bit before but not really seriously. Didn't even know there was rank in it!

Where in Nova Scotia? I was fortunate enough to visit Halifax a few years ago, and it was super nice. Then we drove to PEI for a few days (Charlottetown and Green Gables, though I think we drove basically around the whole island). Awesome drive, and PEI is really something.

Sorry, I'm trying to play Salamander 2 now. I don't like it much either but I really should post a score this week -- I'll try to get to 1-4 at least. I'll be more into Cave week no matter what gets selected... I guess I'd vote for DOJ, I actually like chaining score systems and wouldn't mind playing that all week.

I was able to hit 300k by the end of 1-4 without much trouble. I didn't do any of the tricks, and I was avoiding power ups after stage 3, so it could be more like 400-500k by that point, but I couldn't play too much. My computer died again lol. I have a backup now anyway, I think it can run Galuda I'll have to try and see

well one of the reasons I really like Galuda is that scoring and survival kind of go hand in hand. You have to score green gems so you can kakusei when shit gets real and you need to clear the screen, and in doing so you generally score pretty well.

There is a lot more finesse in optimizing routes/timing and enemy patterns for scoring, but I find I don't really need to focus on that to score decently.

I'd be happy to score 10M+ consistently, a 1CC would be pretty huge though.

There's a huge chunk of score in stage 3 to be had if you build up 400-500 meter for the stage 3 midboss. Don't shoot it at first, and when it starts dropping the circular pods, immediately kakusei and gun them down for a shitton of 100s from the rows of bullets they launch, easily gets like 2 mil if your counter's at 1000, I'm getting around 9mil at that point (and apparently it's possible to net 10 mil or so near the start of stage 3, so definitely room to improve).

I love that people get so worked up about magical transsexuals / games in general. Galuda, DOJ and Ketsui are all great games, I'd be happy to play any of them for a week.

More obscure games are better for tourneys like these because in theory everyone would start a week with zero knowledge and practice of the game. Then it would be a balanced playing field, but everyone would complain that the games suck. Any Cave game is going to have people who have already put hundreds of hours into figuring things out. The only way to really have a perfect STGT would be to have a tournament made up of unreleased games. The other way would be to "go pro", only allowing current record holders into the tourney (something like "You must have a worldwide top 10 score in at least one of the games on this list to enter: <this list>"), but of course that's not the point of STGT.

Anyhow, I should get back to fixing my bugs so I can go home and PLAY!

p.s. Thanks for the scoring tips!
