yeah, it came out last week in japan. I never liked the first one anyways so maybe my opinion doesn't matter.... but Dante's new "attitude" is so lame and some of the cutscenes are just plain cheesy. .. eating pizza in slow motion... yeah that's so COOL.CMoon wrote:You've played it???tsunami0ne wrote:Devil May Cry 3 is so so.
Ok, I can't watch discussion of 3D platformers any longer without raving about Rocket: Robot on Wheels for the N64.
Primitive 3D graphics (no where near as pretty as Rayman 2 or the Banjo games), but wonderfuly crazy graphic and character design. Nifty moves (you're a robot on a unicycle with a double-jump, a freeze ray, and a tractor beam that can grab and swing or pick things up and throw them). Really advanced (for its time) and fun physics. Puzzles that actually require thought. A bunch of fun vehicles and levels that use them really well (dune buggy, flying carpet, tractor-beam-powered fork lift, glider motorcycle, paintball hovercraft).
But most importantly, the levels are packed full of fun, inventive, challenging stuff to do. The game feels more like a 2D platformer than most of the 3D games because, while it's got exploration and collecting, there's a whole lot of places that test your jumping and swinging (and driving and grabbing/tossing...) skills, often with time constraints, so you have a whole bunch of places you have to do a series of moves without missing, any one of which seemed hard in the first few levels.

This is definitely a beauty over substance game. The first time I played it, I thought it was great...for about an hour. Then the gameplay and the horrid camera angles ruined it. The game also plays really, really slowly, and in the end, it looks good, but isn't worth the money to play it. Get Gunvalkyrie instead...which is another great 3D action game.dave4shmups wrote:Do you have Dino Crisis 3 for the XBOX, Twitch? I've read that that game is "ruined" by camera angles, but it looks pretty freakin' amazing to me.

Yeah, I heard that Gunvalkyrie is kind of like a "free-roaming" Space Harrier. Plus, it was done by Sega's late AM2 development team.

No, I sure don't. In fact I didn't even know about it.
I do own the very first one though...on PS1. Its pretty good too, I might add.
Speaking of all these 3D action games, I really like Namco's GhostHunter.
I plan on picking it up someday.
Also, "The Suffering" is pretty intense as well. It can be played either as a FPS or a 3rd person.

I'm glad someone else remembers Body Harvest. That game could be considered the ancestor of the 3D GTA games.roushimsx wrote: DMA Design has put out solid gold for a long, long, long time now. It blows my mind that the same company responsible for Lemmings and Uniracers were also responsible for Manhunt, Body Harvest, and the Grand Theft Auto series.
It was Smilebit, not AM2 that did Gunvalkyrie. I wouldn't necessarily say it plays much like Space Harrier, more like a third-person shooter with a jetpack and a few platformer elements thrown in on the side. Not a bad game all in all, but the controls are very tricky to get used to.dave4shmups wrote:"Get Gunvalkyrie instead...which is another great 3D action game."

Freedom Fighters - PS2/Xbox/Gamecube.
Fantastic piece of work, absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Ever wanted to see what soviet occupied New York might look like? Not only an interesting vision, but a well realised one, backed by a solid game, with well above average visuals and an amazing soundtrack. My only complaint was that it had an end. PS2 one is easiest to play, as it does play best with 4 shoulder buttons, Xbox has slightly nicer graphics, not seen GC.

I've heard good things about Rayman 2 and 3.
The Gungriffon series is one that I'd like to try; I've heard that they're mech games that move at the speed of an FPS.
And how about XBOX Panzer Dragoon Orta? That's one 3D game that people either seem to really love or really hate.

Oh wow, can't believe I forgot about the Onimusha games. I really liked the first one (too short, tho), but the second one I fell in love with. Heh, come to think it was actually two years ago to this day that I beat Onimusha 2; the voice acting is horrible, but it just grew on me...the graphics were gorgeous and the action was great. Not to mention the story and Gogandantess (best fruity boss ever)!
I've spent way too much time with some old games, I still haven't played Onimusha 3 yet, but I have seen tha pant-splurging opening cinema...

^ Onimusha 3 is nice. I played some of it when my lil' cousin bought it for 50. Why am I pointing this out? Well, I'm gonna pick it up for 15, that's why. It's cheap-o nowadays. A good patience is rewarding.
My current list of 3d actioners to pick up: Devil May Cry, Onimusha 3, Shinobi, ZOE2, Rygar. That's it for now. Don't worry, I'm taking into consideration all your recommendations.
Oh, and get RE4. Everyone has to play it.

Scary and beautiful. I have never yelled at a game in frustration as I have with Resident Evil 4. "Dammit Ashley! Stop whining and get your foot out of that damn bear trap!!"
One of my top-ten games of all time.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

I went out looking for Headhunter today and couldn't find it.
Ended up scoring this stuff instead. Hopefully I'll be able to get around to vidcapping a few stages of Wing Arms this weekend, and Mass Destruction...hmm...I've been looking for that baby for a long, long time.

Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage.(DC)
Based on the legendery Manga Berserk that's still going strong in Japan, this game features one of the best english dub ever made for a game.
The gameplay's mostly just repetive hack-n-slash but the setting + the unlocable bonuses kept me coming back for a very long time.
The graphics are also incredible for such an erly title in the dreamcast lifespan.
I second MDK2, altough I've never bet it
That game likes to make grown men cry, and is even harder than Ikaruga imo.

Intriguing. I'm always up for a challenge

Aside from that, I'm pretty stoked about DMC3. I just received the EGM that complains about the "insane" difficulty.
Heh. Pussies
