I loved the one that told you to 'find the miracle ball' before each round. Which isn't miracle world, so have to track that down.

That's Alex Kid The Lost Star. I was pretty fun but way too hard for me when I first played it.Marc wrote:I loved the one that told you to 'find the miracle ball' before each round. Which isn't miracle world, so have to track that down.
Man thinking about all these games bring back a lot of old SMS memories.
It's a shame Dragon's Trap (aka Dragon's Curse) isn't included with the Monster World Collection.

Re: Sega Vintage Collection
Apparently we are getting a streets of rage and a golden axe collection tomorrow.
Not sure on the details of each yet, I'll have a look.

Golden Axe is MD ports. SoR are already pretty well ported. Come on Sega, give me OutRunners, Gale Racer, SCUD Racer, Sega Rally HD, Daytona 2... I'd shell out for those as individual releases.
Also, if Super Hang-On dates after OutRun and Afterburner, how come it looks so shitty in comparison?

Re: Sega Vintage Collection
The Golden Axe collection includes the arcade original along with the 2 MD/Genesis sequels. And as for SoR, you have to remember that all of M2's stuff allows you to openly select the game's region, none of the Backbone stuff allows you to do that. Plus M2 do a much better job with the presentation.Marc wrote:Golden Axe is MD ports. SoR are already pretty well ported.
Re: Sega Vintage Collection
Oh yeah, M2 put a lot more care in but... Not another buy's worth if care. Surely if they've converted SHO, they must have some sort of process to make the super-scaler titles pretty easy ports now. There's just so much good stuff not getting the attention it deserves while they port the same old again and again.

Re: Sega Vintage Collection
The trial modes would be better if the difficulty wasn't set to the easiest settings possible and if you didn't have to have a massive timer / score in the bottom right of the screen covering big chunks of the playfield. Especially annoying on Super Shinobi when you get hit by something that was hidden behind an unnecessarily huge and pointless score.
Also, no online leaderboards for the arcade version of Super Hang On is just retarded.

Re: Sega Vintage Collection
I got the Alex Kidd one for Super Hang-On. I honestly don't know why they've neglected that property when they've made new updates and sequels to most of their other arcade titles over the years. Sega have been pretty good with their XBLA/PSN releases. It'll be interesting to see how far they take this vintage collection idea.

Is Wonderboy IV a platform RPG like wonderboy in monster world?
Is it of similar length? Though I haven't played Monster world in a long time I remember it being reasonably long.

Re: Sega Vintage Collection
You probably mean Monsterworld IV, right ? It's similar in length, a bit more linear maybe.
Wonderboy IV would technically by Dragon's Trap (?), since WBIII is Monster Lair and WBV is Monsterworld III.

I'll probably get the wonderboy collection then. Wondeboy in monster world has got to be worth one more play.

As a huge fan of Monster World III, I tried the english version of Monster World IV. Went up to that first big dungeon with lava inside.Fudoh wrote:You probably mean Monsterworld IV, right ? It's similar in length, a bit more linear maybe.
I found that level design was kind of lame, especially that straight line right before the boss where you have to literrally cross more than 10 times the same screen with lava burst and moving platform. Then I lost to the boss.
Now I dont feel like turning on the console again and going throught this again
Is level design that bad all along the game ?

Re: Sega Vintage Collection
What settings are people using for Super Hang-On? Upright or mini ride on?

Re: Sega Vintage Collection
Mini. Didn't know there was a difference.

Yeah, you know if it's upright that it has to be hard.

Re: Sega Vintage Collection
The first print of Super Shinobi's Spider-Man isn't more accurate than later printings with the Marvel copyright. The Spider-Man in that print is red and black rather than red and blue like in later cartridge versions. I'm guessing the 360 version has the pink Spider-Man like in the recent Wii version, though.Fudoh wrote:Super Shinobi (which everybody should have elsewhere already and doesn't include the first japanese print with Spiderman intact).
Here's a video.
I found the level design to be some of the best in the series, myself. I didn't find that design to be poor. It's not the exact same screen. It looks similar, but the platforms are set up differently and get more challenging with each screen. It's more like 4 or 5 times rather than 10 too. The Flame Wizard is actually pretty easy once you get his pattern down too.As a huge fan of Monster World III, I tried the english version of Monster World IV. Re: Sega Vintage Collection
Sega Rally has an arcade perfect 480p release for the ps2.You can even get it to display in wide screen mode via a simple hex edit of the iso!Marc wrote:Golden Axe is MD ports. The only Alex Kidd game I'm aware of is Shinobi World, so Alex Kidd rocks! Wrong system though.
