Did Nyu Media ever try contacting Valve directly for a Steam Distribution Agreement, or did they go straight to a middleman (Capcom) to handle that?

Capcom is taking the lead on Steam for this slate of titles, from the proverbial soup to nuts.

Re: eXceed Series
That's not quite how I'd phrase it - getting on Steam is no joke these days. Carpe Fulgur didn't establish any kind of norm - if anything, they're an exception and things have become tougher for indie games since then. As slow as this process might be, Capcom's help here is invaluable.Chaos Phoenixma wrote:How long are you guys stuck with Capcom anyway?
Having said that, we're partnered up for our current slate of titles & open from there.

Here is another, unofficial, update regarding eXceed appearing on Steam. It seems that we have a ACTUAL date... Capcom is locking it down with Valve and require we must remain mum for now, but we should be able to disclose soon...

Phew. I was starting to worry. Had been checking steam every day for a month or so now. Excited to get my hands on all of these. Only have Jade Penetrate at the moment on disc.
Re: eXceed Series
Nyu said on twitter that the eXceed series will be released today on Steam. I don't see anything in the latest releases or the coming soon sections of the steam store though, and a search on eXceed does not bring any results either. Steam is weird though, it will probably show up at 3PM eastern/Noon west coast if it happens.

I'm playing exceed 3rd on dualcore 2.2 ghz with old nvidia 6600 graphic card and getting BIG framedrop & at 30 FPS game slowdown. Nothing for old PCs and notebooks with integrated graphic cards? Tested on fullscreen with all color depths.

Hmmm, do you have your drivers up to date? 285.93 were the ones I confirmed fixed whatever Nvidia touched that screwed up the games big time. See if updating the drivers solves your issue as it definitely helped here and I have similar specs to yours. Good luck!lemonhead wrote:I'm playing exceed 3rd on dualcore 2.2 ghz with old nvidia 6600 graphic card and getting BIG framedrop & slowdown. Sometimes it's not our specs but the freaking software what can screw up some games!

Always keep in mind versioning of the drivers because sometimes to make a AAA game run faster they'll release an update that most certainly is going to screw up the other half of the games in existence.

Wanted to ask, did anyone ever figure out what was causing the title screen slowdown in 3rd?RNGmaster wrote:(oddly enough the title screen runs at like 5 FPS)
I've got no slowdown problems except for the title screen. Graphics drivers are up to date.
Re: eXceed Series
I've seen references around to a trial version of the game.
Is there a download link for it anywhere, or is it gone from the internet for good? My google searches only seem to turn up malicious download fake-warez sites.
EDIT: Never mind, it's on the Nyu media site.

Eh, after playing the demo, I doubt I will.
The fact that I can't get past stage 1 probably isn't helping my opinion any. Still, I've gotten to where I really hate "super-slow-bullet thread-the-needle" type of games, and this seems like a prime example.

What the fuck man, just play on easy. Stage 1 on any difficulty is a fucking joke.
Edit: You don't even have to thread the needle on stage 1!

Re: eXceed Series
Even after playing it more and getting through all three demo levels, I'm still not digging it.
It almost feels like the mechanics are for a different game than the levels and patterns are. The patterns are designed to be tap-dodged through and are replete with slow bullets, but the game's weapons and score system are all about flying all over the screen to point-blank shit... wtf?
Also, a lot of the boss patterns are really bullshit. And so are some of the enemy placements in the stages; air enemies spawning from the bottom, in a vert? I thought devs stopped with that kind of retarded crap in the mid '90s.

Re: eXceed Series
I personally really enjoyed the aggressive point blanking and the bullet hell Touhou / Psyvariar buzz mechanic as a secondary way of scoring, something to keep us busy in boss fights.Obscura wrote: It almost feels like the mechanics are for a different game than the levels and patterns are. I don't remember having any major difficulty with bullet patterns, it's just a case of killing the enemy fast enough before you get swamped with bullets. Those snake like enemies that appear from the bottom of the screen are cool imo.Obscura wrote:Also, a lot of the boss patterns are really bullshit. Re: eXceed Series
As a person who has attempted scoring in eXceed 3rd (which is actually quite rare that I take scoring seriously), I feel obliged to reply to Obscura.
I don't quite understand what you mean about the game's weapons being tied to flying all over the screen to point-blank. You start with a default shot power and defeating specific enemies will release items that will give you familiars. Those enemies will release those items regardless of how long you take to kill them, so your weapon is not tied to score in any way.
Survival also does not depend too much on scoring anyway. You may get more items but you should pretty much have reached the same amount of extends by the end of a run.
In the end, if you do not like the game you can go ahead and play something else. I just don't really see what you're complaining about aside from getting your ass kicked in a shmup during your first set of plays - which is pretty much a tradition for every player when they first try a new shmup.
Fair enough. You don't have to like the game. Go play something else.Obscura wrote:Even after playing it more and getting through all three demo levels, I'm still not digging it.
The stage portions are all about planning routes, memorizing enemy spawns, and point-blanking/quick-killing enemies to get the most items possible as well as increasing your overall multiplier. I will admit that the multiplier can be quite spontaneous. Sometimes it will increase rapidly to x16, other times it will hardly even get past x4. Speed-killing is all about scoring. When you say something about the patterns designed to be tap-dodged through, I'm assuming you're talking about the bosses. Defeating the boss as fast as you can will get you a better multiplier so the scoring changes and becomes all about grazing to charge your special while keeping in front of the boss to deal as much damage as possible with your shot.Obscura wrote:It almost feels like the mechanics are for a different game than the levels and patterns are. The boss patterns aren't bullshit at all. I think it's just your inexperience with this game in particular that's talking. Enemies spawning from the bottom of the screen is hardly a problem in the trial. The trial has access to three stages and the third stage is the only stage that has enemies coming from the bottom. Colliding with an enemy does not kill you, it simply pushes you and the bullets that the snakes from behind shoots are quite slow even on harder difficulties! I don't see how this could really be a problem. However, if you are not a fan of that, Stage 3 is the only stage that has enemies coming in from behind.Obscura wrote:Also, a lot of the boss patterns are really bullshit. Re: eXceed Series
There's a bunch of enemy patterns that consist of lines of slow, aimed shots. Obviously, these are meant to be tap-dodged and grazed off of, since if you move around a lot, you'll make a clusterfuck out of the pattern. However, if you're just tap dodging, you're not right up in everything's face, killing it as quickly as possible.SuperSoaker360 wrote:When you say something about the patterns designed to be tap-dodged through, I'm assuming you're talking about the bosses.
Score systems that rely on sitting at the top of the screen to speedkill things do much better with fast bullets, since they get off the screen quickly instead of just sitting in your path while you sprint from one side of the screen to the other. See: Dragon Blaze, Sengoku Blade, Dangun Feveron.
According to the manual, the damage your shot does is based on how close you are to the enemy you're firing at. My experience with the dragons in stage 3 seems to match this.I don't quite understand what you mean about the game's weapons being tied to flying all over the screen to point-blank. You start with a default shot power and defeating specific enemies will release items that will give you familiars. Those enemies will release those items regardless of how long you take to kill them, so your weapon is not tied to score in any way.
No, the boss patterns really are bullshit. There's a lot of them that boil down to "get lucky or die" (examples that come to mind instantly: stage 1 last pattern, stage 2 first pattern, the stage 3 pattern that has the semi-aimed shots that contain you), and then there's crap like the stage 3 pattern with bullets that curve all over the place, making them totally impossible to read. The boss patterns aren't bullshit at all. I think it's just your inexperience with this game in particular that's talking.
More than once, against those dragons, I've had it push me into another segment of the dragon, which then pushed me back into the segment where I came from, which pushed me into the other segment, back and forth, with me having literally no control over the character until I died.Colliding with an enemy does not kill you, it simply pushes you
I've never seen any other game, aside from Ibara, with a first stage nearly this hard. The difficulty curve here is really messed up; aside from the boss, the second stage really is much easier than the first, and the third is only slightly harder.I just don't really see what you're complaining about aside from getting your ass kicked in a shmup during your first set of plays - which is pretty much a tradition for every player when they first try a new shmup.
