TotalConsole (Mayflash) Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
Official Saturn USB pads are impossible to find now, so I figure this will be the next best thing.
http://www.totalconsole.com/servlet/the ... ter/Detail
This is the only adapter I know of designed specifically for the Saturn, it also has 2 controller ports. I'd like to go ahead and buy one, but I've heard there are some serious problems common to many USB controller adapters, like input lag, compatibility problems and the inability to register more than three or four inputs at once. Anyone know if this suffers from any of them?
It would be a nice bonus if I could use it with the PS3, even if the Home button isn't supported.

Re: TotalConsole Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
It's made by Mayflash, actually, which has an excellent reputation for adapters.
I personally use one of the Wii Classic Controller adapters with a Mad Catz TvC stick on my PC for shmupping almost exclusively, and there is definitely no noticeable lag.
I know their PSX->Gamecube adapter is also highly recommended.

Found a Gamefaqs thread that claims they have no added input lag and are PS3-compatible.
There was a post on another forum about someone's Mayflash N64 adapter going belly-up after a few hours of use, but I imagine those are more finicky.
Also found another adapter here. But it's more expensive and fits one controller only.

I'm using a SS/PS/N64 USB adapter by Mayflash. I can't notice any input lag...
It also works on the PS3.
Go for it.

Re: TotalConsole Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
Thanks, will do.
I noticed that Mayflash also has a "universal" 360/PS3/PS2 adapter out now. So far there haven't been any options for 360 -> PS3 controller conversion that don't involve lag and dropped inputs, outside of hardware modding. Could this finally be the worthy adapter?

Looks interesting. I might try that one out. Looks like it uses a USB input for the xbox controller, which is great for my current arcade stick.
Does there exist any xbox 360 to PS2 adapters?

Sadly I don't believe any exist.RaidenViper wrote:Looks interesting. I might try that one out. Looks like it uses a USB input for the xbox controller, which is great for my current arcade stick.

However, the opposite does. So you could put a PS2 PCB into your stick and then use an Xtokki 360 to use it on your 360
You could probably pull it off with an MC Cthulhu and and Imp + wired 360 PCB, but that would be fucking messy.

Thanks. Think I'm just gonna use a 3rd party ps2 controller board, and find some random cheap stick case.shmuppyLove wrote:Sadly I don't believe any exist.RaidenViper wrote:Looks interesting. No problem if everything looks messy again. I'm used to it...

I was able to score an empty BrawlStick case from one of the guys on SRK (Gummowned) for $10 plus a bit of shipping. Can't go wrong with that, except for the terrible artwork.RaidenViper wrote:Thanks. Possibly the worst artwork for a stick I've seen so farshmuppyLove wrote:I was able to score an empty BrawlStick case from one of the guys on SRK (Gummowned) for $10 plus a bit of shipping. Can't go wrong with that, except for the terrible artwork.

Modding a PS2 stick might be an option too. Less work...

Make your own from my design: http://denki.world3.net/pad_converters.html
Re: TotalConsole (Mayflash) Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
I use this:

I got it years ago off ebay, the thing came with a floppy disc to install the drivers! With Windows XP onwards though, it's just plug & play. I use this to play arcade games on MAME using an official Sega Saturn Virtua stick, never had a problem with lag input on any of the controllers I used and all turbo functions worked fine. The only controllers I could never get to work with it was the official Sega Saturn racing wheel and the 3D pad, the latter I'm guessing was just because of the odd removable lead it has.

The 3D pad uses a different communications protocol that the converter doesn't understand.Vixtro wrote:The only controllers I could never get to work with it was the official Sega Saturn racing wheel and the 3D pad, the latter I'm guessing was just because of the odd removable lead it has.

Re: TotalConsole (Mayflash) Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
My Mayflash Saturn adapter showed up today, along with Persona 4 Arena and Growlanser IV. Yeah, my plate's full for this week.
Win 7 recognized it as soon as I plugged it in, with no need to install new drivers or anything. I've had no problems with mapping controls to it in Mame or ZSNES. It works fine, but it seems to have slightly more input lag than my PS3 pads. I'll have to run it through a test program to confirm if I just need to adjust to the feel of a different pad, or if there is in fact some lag created by the adapter.
I'll have to try it, but I don't see why the 3D pad wouldn't work if it's set to + mode. It should behave exactly like a standard pad in that case.

It uses the same communications protocol in analog and digital modes. If it doesn't work in one mode it probably won't work in the other.Op Intensify wrote:I'll have to try it, but I don't see why the 3D pad wouldn't work if it's set to + mode. Re: TotalConsole (Mayflash) Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
speaking of Saturn pads, seems another batch of official Sega USB pads have made their way on to the market. Looks like they're from the PlaySEGA VIP program a few years back?
this guy has ~80 controllers for seven bucks each, shipped:

Re: TotalConsole (Mayflash) Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
I got one of those - the weird button binding makes it worthless for the ps3, but it might be ok for mame?

Re: TotalConsole (Mayflash) Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
I am now using the official saturn USB pad. It feel a little more responsive.
So there is definitive some lag on those converters.
Btw, my Mayflash does support the analog stick on saturn 3d, n64 and PS controllers. I can't confirm the saturn one, because I don't own any.

Re: TotalConsole (Mayflash) Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
Supports analog for PS and N64, but not for Saturn as far as I know.
Re: TotalConsole (Mayflash) Saturn -> PC USB adapter?
I just got one of those mayflash SS/N64/PSX usb adapters. The lag is very noticeable; basically unplayable for any kind of action/platformer/shmup. Compared it with an older usb joystick and an HRAP3...
