Project HBSF-30 - silent, durable Cherry MX buttons

This Taiwanese chap had a good idea, and he's trying to get funding for it via Indiegogo.

It's a 30mm button which uses Cherry MX switches for longer life, lower noise & higher customization (can fit Cherry MX Red, Black, Brown or Blue).

He's about half-way to his funding goal of $8'000, and if he doesn't make it they probably won't be mass-produced.
So... pre-order them, is what I'm saying.

I really don't get the point of this other than reducing noise.

To be honest, Sanwas are too sensitive and these even more so. I have never dropped a combo because o a button not activating fast enough.

I like the sound of my Seimetsu buttons, it is very therapeutic.

actually i dig the idea. i really like the sensitivity of the sanwas, but the engage travel of them is much too short which you can also see in the graph above. this results in accidental bomb drops or else even just moving the stick around. making the engage travel longer yet not making it any softer seems a very good idea.

What I am saying is that I have never dropped a combo because the engage distance of a button (Sanwa vs Seimetsu for example) being different. People drop combos because buttons stick or break. Please re-read.

The bit I really like is the idea of a 50-million-press button (i.e. NEVER NEEDS REPLACING), but a quiet stick would also be a boon since our walls are too damn thin.

These buttons use standard Cherry MX switches, so if the Cherry red switches are too light for you, you can always swap in Cherry MX blues which have the same actuation force as the stock Sanwa switches, but have a more tactile feel.
I feel like the guy making these had the intent to make them more quiet as his primary goal, but the thing that's caught most of our attention over on srk has been that we can swap in whatever cherry switch we want, and they have a ridiculously long lifetime.

nobody likes it on any forum. i'm quite convinced this is to avoid patent issues.

i think i will actually order a few cherry switches and make my own custom buttons.

Nobody like what on any forum? The octagonal shape? There are quite a few people that like the shape actually and there is no patent issues with round buttons

I can't help notice that this project reached its funding goal, now at $8,887 as of 10:26PM Central Time on 20th of August. Personally the octo shape base doesn't effect the way people play, it's there for aesthetics. Seems promising and willing to put my money down to test it.

I'd be curious to know if you can achieve something in between a PS-14-K an a Happ button with these.

I have big manly hands and I need a button that can take some abuse.

Maybe I just need to double up on the springs in the PS-14 ... hmm
