Why do so many people want this for GameCube support/to replace their Wii? Just keep the old one and get this too. Don't even acknowledge that the second Wii exists, because it's far more useless than the Genesis 3.

I want digital video and audio for my Gamecube and Wii games. I don't think either the Wii's sound or video output is that great.

And this is why Dolphin exists. There's your 1080p digital video GC/Wii support right there.

Though, I also wish there was an official means of getting it.

The videos of Dolphin I've seen have been pretty glitchy. In general, also, I've found emulators can't really compare to the smoothness of real hardware except in rare cases (not sure about Dolphin on this front).

Emulation isn't equivalent to real hardware (SNES and earlier is pretty damn close, but anything later than that...).

Dolphin's *very* much work in process with lots of glitches and far from 100% compatibility. It won't be good enough by Wii U's release time.

If it gets leap-frogged by the next generation of Sony/MS systems though, that means more poor ports for the Wii-U. While I don't care about graphics much anymore, it does affect the quality of the software on the system. The same goes for systems which are both hard to code for and don't have a large market share. Nintendo could be painting themselves into a corner with this if you also consider that a lot of the casual market seems to have gone towards phones.

That article did seem a little vague on whether it's just the main processor's speed. For example, the SNES had a very slow main CPU but could handle certain types of games better than other systems at the time because it had such a good graphics/audio setup (of course, you could also make an argument for it being much worse at other styles-- it just depends on what you wanted).

Many games run flawlessly in it. Sometimes you do have to know what emulator revision to use though. Certain games may run well in one revision, but downright refuse to launch in others(as was the case with Timesplitters 2 for me).

This is interesting:

I doubt it'll take off, but it might make a dent.

It's an interesting idea, but it would have to have some serious support behind it to get itself off the ground. And even then I can't imagine it being anything but a distant last in the console race. If it keeps cheap enough to still make a profit though, I'd think it could reasonably have support for years and years.

But hey, I love a little bit of variety in the game-market.

And if it somehow becomes a mecca of shmups and other arcade-style games that would sort of seal the deal for all of us wouldn't it? : p

Because, to bring it back to the Wii U, there is not much right now on the Wii U to make me too excited, as opposed to getting something wild like a pce or pce-cd (which I am toying around with!). There's the p100 game by Platinum, which I know will be pretty fun, and like, pikmin 3.

Of course, I'd probably go all in for a Metroid title but I am a blind fanboy like that.

I can tell you straight up that Japanese developers are never going to have any interest in an openly hackable system.

A little late to the party, huh Friendly? We've known about that for weeks.

MadCatz is already working on a third-party pad with the sticks and buttons in the 360's alignment, thankfully.

You mean the same type of person who called these character designs rancid? That sure sounds like someone whose taste/opinion I'd trust.

Eeek, those character designs are terrible. The environments and enemies look pretty well done though.
It's not so bad ingame though, but that character art looks terrible.

And as for ergonomics, the controller look like it works very well for FPSes [both sticks in comfortable, level postion], and somewhat well for digital control gaming [d-pad and buttons level, although they aren't in a particularly optimal position].

Just so we are clear, the chara designs I think are ok are the ones like this.

The monsters are fine, too. The drawings of Giana shown at the very top of the kickstarter page are ovderdone, of course.

Back on topic: I think this Wii U pad might actually turn out to be good; I certainly wouldn't dismiss it before ever having held one.

$300/$350 USD. Pretty reasonable, actually.

So Bayonetta 2 is being released for this thing. I did not expect that. Guess Nintendo picked it up after Sega dropped it? Not being directed by Kamiya though.

He's probably too busy with Project P-100 anyways. Still, that is a nice surprise if it isn't ruined by trying to sell every WiiU gimmick.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

$350? Everyone I know is going to say no thanks to that. The entire media was predicting it as $250.

Bayonetta 2 had better stay far, far away from the tablet.

$350? How about €350? Now that sure stings a bit.

Sony and MS are no doubt going to price drop their machines as soon as the Wii U lands and Nintendo will be at a serious price disadvantage. Looks like they haven`t learned anything from the 3DS launch.

Yeah, Sony has a top-loading PS3 model on the way, which will likely coincide with a price drop.

It had better given the age of the platform + the cheapness of the unit.
