Tokyo Game Show '05:

Another year, another Tokyo Game Show!

Only covered things that I am interested in.

Golden Tickets:

17/09/05:

http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/706/dsc022003ov.jpg

Capcom:

PSP Goku Makaimura:

Looks very nice indeed.

PSP Street Fighter Zero 3 Double Upper:

Ditto.

Hamster:

PS2 Oretachi Game Center Zoku: Yie Ar Kung Fu:

Hamster’s budget range returns with some more releases. This one being the most nostalgic:

Konami:

PS2 DrumMania V & GuitarFreaks V:

Incredible to think that there were only 3 disks available for the PS2 prior to this. A long, overdue welcome sighting.

Namco:

X360 Ridge Racer 6:

Game of the Show. Not very fast though for some worrying reason. Graphics wise, it’s all very crisp and is more akin to how one used to imagine a Silicon Graphics WorkStation to be able to produce years ago. As it should; I didn’t see any pop-up or fluctuation from it’s solid 60 fps. Doesn’t look very sexy or arcadey at this point as RRV did and blew everyone away, but it’s Ridge Racer and it will be mint. Not happy with the useless return of the boost feature from the PSP version though:

PS2 Soul Calibur III:

No one cares.

Sony:

PS2 Nico:

I still don’t know how it will play after the life changing Ico. Graphics wise it all looks very ropey with a terrible frame rate. Extremely wishy-washy and nothing on Ico in the looks department. One felt that it should have been held off for PS3 as the original was for PS2:

PSP LocoRoco:

dcharlie advised that I check this out prior to going and he was right. Very interesting. One to watch:

PSP ‘Part-time Job’:

Sony are really taking the piss out of Nintendo with this one. It’s their version of a WareWare clearly:

Sega:

PS2 Sega Rally 2006:

Not as crap looking as last years showing but still a million miles off the Model 3 powered pt.2 which is pathetic really coming from Sega themselves.

PS2 Sega Ages Vol.20: Space Harrier Complete:

A pointless release, offers nothing new apart from a lot of options. Jap Saturn release is still the one to have.

PS2 Sega Ages Vol.21: SDI & Quartet:

The former is mouse compatible. If you like the original’s then you will like this:

PS2 Shooting Love: Trizeal:

More of the same.

PSP Power Smash New Generation:

A must have for PSP owners. Stunning.

GBA Gunstar Super Heroes:

Like all GBA games, it looks pap on the big screen but this is very impressive on it’s native screen.

SNK Playmore:

They had the best stand at the show by far, everything was arcadey quality which isn’t bad for 2005.

PS2 Neo Geo Battle Colloseum:

A very good port.

Taito:

PS2 Homura:

As pap as the PCB.

PS2 Raiden III:

A lovely shoot ‘em up. Buy it now.

PS2 Taito Memories Vol.1 & PS2 Taito Memories Vol.2:

Out of course but still lovely to play within Taito company. Best release(s) in years.

DS Bubble Bobble DS:

Very nice looking new adventure taking full advantage of both screens. Also contained a port of the original PCB:

PSP Exit:

A lovely little game. A crossed between Prince of Persia, Viewtiful Joe (in looks) and Bonanza Bros.:

Excite:

PS2 Gouketsuji Ichizoku - Bonnou Kaihou:

A 2D one-on-one with some heritage.

PS3:

Lovely to be able to be one of the first people in the World to see the machine in the flesh but no one cared about Sony’s bent cinema showing FMV of alarmingly lots of Western produced games:

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/339/dsc023655ed.jpg

X-Box 360:

Better looking than the X-Box which isn’t difficult of course:

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/4072/dsc023575cj.jpg

Fancy dress:

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/8934/dsc022409kk.jpg

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/3128/dsc023126kv.jpg

Goody bag:

http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/6085/dsc024170nr.jpg

As always a Tokyo Game Show is always a pleasure to visit:

I hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading.

Nice impressions JJ.

Pity about Nico / Wanda, have been looking forward to that one for a while now.

Good news about Raiden 3 though. It looked grim when I first saw it but the more I've seen the more I like it.

You know, I think any sequel would fail to meet such expectations. It does happen to hear a game is amazing, stunning, incredible, fantastic... But when a game is called "Life Changing"...

Well you can almost be sure that's a personal miracle that rarely occurs. Especially rare from a sequel.
