Still too early to call it a flop?

Funny: Morgan Stanley recommended to buy FB shares last night. Add them to the list of banks you can really trust with your money. They'd never lie to you.

Huh. I wonder if that's being driven by the Zynga stock crash. There's apparently some shenanigans there, too. Shocking, I know :D

Doing so with over two months' worth of data is fairer than doing so with one day's worth. Although you did a good job of cherry picking a day to bring this up. Alternatively, I could say that between early June and late June/early July, it was up about 20%. True statement, but it's only a small part of a bigger story. Even today, the stock is 5% higher than it was a couple hours ago. I think it'll be a while before the price settles.

I haven't been following too closely, but I haven't heard of any new plans to further monetize their users. Until they do, insane P/E is still insane.

Undoubtedly. A few weeks after Facebook's IPO, it was brought up that their stock prices followed the same trend, and that appears to still be true (added the S&P 500 for reference):

Was anyone here stupid enough to buy facebook stocks?

I pretty much laughed when I heard about facebook shares at $38 bucks when it was first announced.

In retrospect, should have bought some on June 5th and then sold them on June 24th.

To add to this discussion, EA's stock prices have fallen more than 50% in one quarter.

I am wondering when I need to swallow my delicious, dainty scruples and buy some of the damn thing.

Around this next corner: Euro Crisis, 201X? (Or 20XX? 2XXX? As long as there is a monetary union?)

I know nothing about finance and stocks and all that shit. But how in the hell does anyone expect Facebook to make them money when the site is FREE? FB doesn't make anything, it doesn't sell anything. WTF?

I'm laughing pretty hard at the idea that nimitz has been missing for months due to this. That's what he gets for calling us stupid for not buying any

Like the rest of the web, they sell ads. They do make a lot of money, just not enough to warrant their current stock price, even after the 50% drop.

Basically, speculators are paying a premium for future potential. If Facebook can figure out how to get a little more out of each user, that's a metric fuckton of money. Of course, that's a huge if. As I understand it, mobile is their big weakness right now. More and more people are using it, but Facebook doesn't really make any money there.
