Always took some comfort in him still being around. The Jeffersons is one of the first things I can remember, my parents used to rent taped episodes back when the place I grew up in didn't have television.

Good parents. That show has some great wardrobe ideas for a Pimps & Hos party.

Indeed. And I'll never forget offending my racist grandmother when she visited and I quoted George at dinner ("You can't sleep on the balcony! You'll turn blue!" "BETTER THAN WHITE!").

I guess the only better dresser in the history of late 70's early 80's TV was Mr. Furley. I'd like to think he and George Jefferson are sharing a bong right now.

Sgt. Rock has finally seen the end of war.

Didn't know about Armstrong either - major bummer.

Jack Mulholland, one of the last surviving defenders of Darwin 70 years ago, has passed away. He represents one member of that generation that fought the second world war, and often (as is certainly the case with the bombing of Darwin) their battles remain obscure despite their actual impact.

I thought I was the only one on this forum that had any clue about the Bombing of Darwin. Thanks for sharing.

Are there any books, documentaries, videos, or movies about this? The attack read to me as another Pearl Harbor.

Harry Harrison died earlier this week. One of the most important scifi writers of our generation. His book Deathworld is a little known classic that had a large influence, and it a personal favorite of mine. It is also believed to be the first mention of a faster than light 'jump drive'. The Stainless Steel Rat series deserves a mention for having almost no deaths (!) in the entire series.
He was the inspiration for many authors, may his legacy be carried through in the work of others.

This one was kind of disturbing for me. Was just having a talk with a friend about him and Ving Rhames being the black equivalent of Paxton/Pullman about 30 minutes before we got the news. Weird coincidences. Shame too as he was a pretty solid actor.
Look at our friendly members:

Interestingly related, Namiki tweeted this about his passing: "グリーンマイルの…合掌。バトライダー的にはストローマン。"

From what I can make of that, Strawman was based on Duncan. Now that I compare, they certainly do look similar.

A bit late on this one, but on June 11th Stay High 149 died of liver failure.

A very early New York Graffiti King, who started in 1969. He had a wickedly stylish tag and was doing early pieces on the trains when they were still Red :o

He disappeared from the scene in 1974 and was not found again for 27 years. His website is still running.

Great thread, I would bet on Alfred from Burton's Batman, but I just saw on IMDb I'm late by a year.

I'll vote Conrad Bain then, the grandpa from Arnold.
