What if I ride the falsificar to get the 11th-12th place every time
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
You know what really goes against the spirit of competition? Having a shooting game tournament where nobody is required to post proof of their actions. You might as well call it "Let's all play this game 2012!" instead of calling it a tournament.
I'm still waiting for njiska or Ed to answer why exactly doing this for the top scores (in the games with working replays) would be bad for them.

Many people pushing for replays already agreed that if it requires more work than shift+F3, game and player are exempt from any replay rule.njiska wrote:There's two many what-ifs to make it work. (WolfMame, Regular mame, non-mame games, stupid NVRAm deletions).

Because this is a god damn tournament that exists for building the community and what is being proposed here violates a basic trust. It doesn't built the community, it makes us more fractured. Same every score related argument on this board. This is a fundamental issue. It doesn't matter if applies to every player or only the top ten (who won't even know that until after the fact), it's wrong to begin with. Would you insist on instant replay and steroid testing for a company softball league?
Yes, this whole discusion is quickly ruining STGT'12. I'd really like Dex to step in and put an end to this debate once and for all.ebarrett wrote:Is STGT'12 ruined yet?

I didn't even know about the long wait thing. I was just referring that I'd be playing on the US Raiden Fighters Aces release
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
I have an idea: if someone has a really high score that is hard to believe, we can send people over to their house to look for evidence to make sure they aren't cheating.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
If this is really a tournament then posting a verification of your actions is only natural. Otherwise this should be called the "happy fun community building meeting 2012 <3<3<3".
By the way, doing things that way is exactly what's holding this community back. Only competition (which is what makes games more fun) is what would make the community go forward. Otherwise we should all stick to talking about how hot the characters in Deathsmiles are or how fucking impossible these games are.
I think the Western STG community resembles the Western fighting game community of ten years ago or so, with this silly "casual fun" vs. "hardcore unfun" dichotomy.

Cast my vote in agreement that replays (for MAME) and photos (for consoles/PCBs) should be mandatory for everyone.
We need to also make it clear that images shouldn't be embedded in posts. Clutter/threadbreaks/more scrolling = bad.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
So the previous STGTs were casual nonsense because inps weren't mandatory?
Is STGT finally going to be the ultra hardcore 100 man shmup kumite it was meant to be?

Yeah, and be sure to hold up the day`s newspaper in the shot so we know it isn`t an old score. And a photo ID so we know it isn`t someone else`s score. And please submit a notarized copy of your drug test results, so we know you aren`t doping. It's too bad that nobody realized that the best way to promote replays was to focus exclusively on the benefits and vow to lead by example, rather than focusing on the negative, exclusionary aspects, and making it seem as if failure to comply with these arbitrary rules is terrible, because it's not. If somebody had said "I am going to provide inputs of all my runs because I want to learn," I probably wouldn't have cared if your name wasn't sikraiken, but it would have been a pleasant thing. Instead it's being used as a bludgeon against people and disregards the tradition for low-stress playing and putting up as few hoops to jump through as possible.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
If, IF our organizers were such massive tighty-whiteys about this, I'd feel justified asking a couple extra miles from them as well.
- They devise the most accurate/optimal/usable recording solution for each game, for each method of play.
- They provide these solutions to us working and complete, well in advance, with full support: instructions, troubleshooting, upload space, whatever it takes such that setup, recording and submission are as smooth and braindead as possible for everyone.
You want to hold an EVO, you work and pay for an EVO.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Can't you guys stop being dicks? We aren't doing a fucking tournament for money... this is only to have fun. So stop your silly discussions and decide some good games to play rather than bitching about savestates, games that shouldn't be emulated, games that shouldn't be played on PC, etc. You're all taking this too seriously when this is just a summer shmup festival for most of us.
I'm sick of this thread so I'll strongly support that the mods choose the games of next year so we won't have to stand this shit.

Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Given that there's a Toaplan week this year, what's the best version of MAME for running these games in? Batsugun has some nasty graphics glitches in every version of mame I use. Also I'm guessing that Batsugun and VV still don't have sound?
Re: STGT'12 planning thread
Just get a newer build of MAME. Batsugun runs without graphic glitches and with audio, and has for a while.MX7 wrote:Given that there's a Toaplan week this year, what's the best version of MAME for running these games in?
