I can't believe they're coming out with a movie for the Da Vinci Code, much less that people actually read this book and believe it. Throw together a bunch of concocted historical "facts" and relate them somehow to the Bible, write it down in a book, and sell millions. It's bad enough Joseph Smith did this two centuries ago and got away with it. Are people still that gullible? Oh wait... there's the Church of Scientology. I guess I just answered my own question.

Undamned is the leading English-speaking expert on the consolized UD-CPS2 because he's the one who made it.
Why not come out with a movie based on it? For all the hype and controversy surrounding the thing, it's no more offensive (or earnest) than Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The media frenzy that surrounded it ignored that fact that it was nothing more than an unambitious little airport page-turner from an author who never intended it to be more than that (but is riding the wave as far as it can take him now, like most people would). As literature, of course, it sucks hard, but as a cheesy action movie it could be kinda fun. And mediocre pulp novels can beget great films. See Jaws or The Godfather.
And anything with the Konami code gets a thumbs up from me.
Edit: The people who take the book as gospel are stupid, I'll agree, but that goes without saying really.

It's nowhere near being a literature masterpiece and could indeed be seen as pulp. That said, I read the book and found it amusing and thought provoking at least. We all know the Catholic church has been deceiving (well at least holding back info to) people in multiple ways throughout history, so I would not be surprised if something like this is kept from general people. Not that I believe or found proven any of the "facts"in the book, it did make me wonder again about what they ARE holding out on. Also kinda strange that the church felt intimidated/undermined by this pulp novell so much that they needed to officially react against it and even start an anti campaign (maybe they felt faith among people in it wasn't strong enough resist the "unfounded" assesments in the book!?).greg wrote:I can't believe they're coming out with a movie for the Da Vinci Code, much less that people actually read this book and believe it.
Leave out the "and relate them somehow to the Bible" part and you've a fine discription of the bible itself.Throw together a bunch of concocted historical "facts" and relate them somehow to the Bible, write it down in a book, and sell millions.

They made movies about the bible as well, so why not about this book.

Barroom hero!

I'm a little surprised no one ever mentions its predecessor, Angels & Demons...
It's the same main character, only it's the Vatican and a secret Illuminati plot, and just as concocted, though at least there are some pretty ambigrams
A friend Casey and I have read Brown's other books, and he thinks the guy ought to be a cipherer instead, because that seems to be his main interest. As a writer, he's fairly mediocre and relies on a lot of farfetched twists and for the characters to be idiots, particularly the 'smart' ones... Casey thinks it's a red flag when the reader figures it out before the characters do

"This is not an alien life form! He is an experimental government aircraft!"
I think it would be cool if Catholics were holding back alien technology from us! Cool? Well then I'll write a book about it and slam Catholics some more and make fun of the bible. Why won't I do this to muslims? Because they would kick my ass.Super Laydock wrote:It's nowhere near being a literature masterpiece and could indeed be seen as pulp.
