Yeah, I play Neo Geo stuff, and then rotate the monitor and play verts just fine. Its heavy, but do-able.

Man Moh, if you don't mind my asking where did you find the Blast? I've got a New Astro, but since several of my favourite PCBs support 480p I really feel like I'm missing out. I'd love to get in on that if there are more in the area.

Guyz just to mention, you have some great cabs there, but for shmuppers who can only afford/have room for a single cab have you considered an Egret II? They make life much easier. With the rotate mech it takes me less than 3 mins to pop the hood swivel the monitor these days, and it's automatic dual sync - it's never had an issue with anything I've thrown at it, from Rolling Thunder to Atomiswave, Hyper Neo 64 and Xbox 360, and there's no weird audio configurations to setup.

Yeah, what Moh said. It's a small miracle we have the cabs we have. An Egret II would be sweet but there are approximately 0 in this country so yeah... we make due with what we have.

That's a shame, the UK has had all sorts floating around, although granted not with the same regularity as in the Killer Cabs days. I suppose that forum is the reason so many candies made it here.

Anyway, if one ever comes up in your neighbourhood, I definitely recommend it for shmupping.

It may take you 3 minutes to rotate the monitor, but add another 5 minutes to rotate the bezel proper. That said, it is a heck of a lot easier than an Astro.

Capcom Cute is the fastest tate i've ever seen believe it or not. You don't need a rotate mech for an 18" monitor and the bezel just lifts out

I think the point was that all Neo games are horizontal (due to doubling as a home console and being built around multi-game cabs where the games can be individually swapped out).

It may take you 3 minutes to rotate the monitor, but add another 5 minutes to rotate the bezel proper.

I never screw the bezel in, it fits so snug at a push that it doesn't even fall I if I lift the hood.

Usually, shmups with relatively common US versions are going to be the cheapest ones. Raiden 1 or 2 can generally be had pretty cheap (Maybe even Raiden DX, although it's a bit harder to find), as can Raiden Fighters 1 or 2, Viper Phase 1 or Strikers 1945. If you're looking for Cave stuff, I don't think Donpachi is too terribly expensive, although it's been a few years since I bought mine.

I know of two complete Viper Phase 1 cabinets within driving distance--still operating within arcades. I guess it's pretty common.

Works out, because it's my favorite of the pre-Fighters Raiden games.

Rally Bike (Toaplan) was one of my first boards - and still one of the most fun games I own. Got it super cheap ($60) and tons of replay value - such a great game that nobody talks about.

As far as shooters go - , Psikyo games tend to be the best bang for your buck these days. Strikers 1945 II is a great game for cheap - just nabbed one on KLOV for $50 shipped!

If you happen across a Dragon Blaze, splurge the extra money...it's worth it. (I paid $150 for mine...but that was a year ago).

Or like I mentioned - Rally Bike - SUCH A GREAT GAME.

Yes - Rally Bike. Fucking fun as hell. Toaplan. You can't go wrong. Tatsujin/Truxton use to be checp back in the day - I got my pcb for $100, not sure if they are crazy expensive now a days or what, but totally worth it. You will develop beefy forearms tapping away at that one for sure.

I've seen two Raiden II pcb's up for sale recently for $60 shipped (both on KLOV) and there is one I think, on ebay right now for like $85. Awesome game. Great OST.

And you can't go wrong with a Neo Geo set up. Shitload of great games cheap. Take a look at Yahoo Japan auctions and there are a ton of cheap carts on there.

Taito G-Net mobo + some cards are pretty cheap. There's a decent selection of games for the system too.

Yeah, I hear Ray Crisis is pretty cheap these days, har har (joking. this thing blew up about a year ago. Got $600?).

For some crazy reason, this thing has blown up. I think the last two on ebay have sold for upwards of $400

As far as cheap recommendations, I get a big kick out of Thundercade/U.A.G. by Taito. Likely the greatest motor-bike-emup.
