sorry for the necrobump but actually i have a radeon x1400 on my hp laptop and it has the exact same glitch. i just discovered it yesterday.
i'll try windows xp tonight (win7 being my main system) but i guess the effect will be the same.

Being a proper 3D port, it really does need at least an entry-level graphics card to render properly. A lot of onboard GPUs don't seem to do a very good job.
I had a similar issue trying to run Jamestown on an old Toshiba laptop. The integrated GPU just didn't support whatever the game was trying to do, and I didn't get any display at all.

i would understand if the game wouldn't run at all or it would have severe glitches, but just having half of your ship dissapear seems really bizarre.
in my case, i can confirm that it works fine on windows xp. i just have to correct that i have in fact a x1300 card. so if someone stumbles across this topic this might be useful.

Same for me:
With the arcade version, using the same PC (gtx460) and the same nvidia driver version, I have a complete ship under XPsp3 and an half one under Seven64. But the PC (home) version of the game works fine using both OS.
