Phelios Mega Drive Video Review

Post by cb5000 »

Hey guys, this is my review for Phelios, A unique game in its concept and setting, and yet in the meantime a bit banal in execution. This review is of the Mega Drive\Genesis version. Enjoy!

watching you wag that yellow game boy gets me PSYCHED

you clearly put a lot of work into this and I don't want to slag it (especially since it wasn't asked for), but I wanted to point out a few things:

- intro is way too long and that music is just showcasing the worst music trends in that era. Also, I bet that Phelios has nicer music than the sound of your voice for 3 minutes (however long was left after the intro)
- Camera work, if you have to show off console boxes and shit, but tbh you don't need to do that here - anyway rails and flat surfaces are your friends for moving cameras, but there is nothing interesting about a Wiimote being thrown around

- important stuff: CRTs look nasty when you capture them with most cameras
- important stuff: the gameplay video needs to be deinterlaced. If you are recording from an emulator, make sure it's not being recorded as interlaced.
- important stuff: try putting a piece of paper over your microphone or holding it away from your face so you don't get those PFt noises, don't blow into it. Also, try to keep a constant distance when recording dialogue so that the volume doesn't change dramatically. Much of the time you are too quiet and then suddenly PFt bLAM

- you don't really have a voice for radio (better than saying you have "a face for radio" though!). Don't know how to fix that, sorry.
- Pointing out that Phelios is based on Greek mythology is somewhere near "press the face buttons on the controller until you find one for shooting" for lack of interest, especially when the video is however many minutes in. If you haven't mentioned that within 10 seconds of the video start (including the intro) you've missed your chance. A shot of the box art might clear up any misperceptions your audience may hold about this as well. Don't forget the power of Montage (TM) to help you out here.
