Mushihimesama Soundtrack find!

For you VGM fans out there...

Masaharu Iwata's involvement in Mushihimesama is very apparent. Listening to the final level track, "The one who is always in the forest," I stumbled upon the main melody in another Iwata/Sakimoto game, from a long time ago. The game is Devilish for the Sega Mega Drive.

What you'll need:

Genesis Emulator
Devilish ROM

Go to options, then BGM 06...let it play, and you'll be listening to one of the main tracks in Mushihimesama!

Don't ask how I found this, or why. It's just a cool tidbit of info.

Weird, my favorite part of my favorite Mushi track was taken from someplace else...

Also, that game is pretty cool. Interesting Arkanoid variant.

Devilish also got ported to the DS recently in Japan, although the reviews I've seen seem to say that version is pretty mediocre.

Hmm, I have Devilish, I'll have to give it another play. Do you know what level in Devilish that tune is from?

I've been thinking since day one that Mushi's soundtrack was very Genesis. So odd to actually have it confirmed. Really, the whole game has a sort of 16-bit quality to it that I can't quite place. Level 3 especially, with the Elemental Master style lava background and the giant worm that takes up the whole stage... so very 1991.

No, just go to the options menu and bgm 6. BTW, the whole soundtrack to Devilish is really good.

There's another Mega Drive/Genesis Soundtrack that's worth listening to, but there's no sound test. Verytex. Cool game, cooler music. By Hitoshi Sakimoto. Oh, and Radiant Silvergun too! Look into it, your favorite shooter music may have a historical composer!

With the exception of track 4, and maybe 2 & 3, I thought the Mushi soundtrack was pretty mediocre. :/

It lacked the effort they put into DDP and EspG. Kinda like comparing the music from R-Type Final to RT Delta, or even the original R-Type for that matter. sigh...

Please take a minute to listen to track no 8 ("sortie") of Megadrive Gauntlet... That one by Iwata Sakimoto as well. It rocks!

Years later, Sakimoto became one of my favorite game composers, and it was exciting to discover in retrospect that he worked on Gauntlet IV

I actually think Mushi's music is pretty good...it ain't Beethoven, but I'll be danged if it isn't catchy. Then again, a lot of people like Galuda's soundtrack a lot, and I always thought of it as unexceptional...ah well, to each his own, heh heh.
